5 Ways To Market Yourself & Combat Overthinking

Read the rest here:

This morning on my way to work, something interesting happened that made me think more critically about how time and change are interconnected. I was walking on the train platform at a quarter past eight as usual when I turned around and saw someone I had not seen in at least three years. We both stared at each other in a caffeine-deprived haze, somehow managing to exchange awkward hellos and small talk before boarding the train. Although we have known each other for most of our childhoods, this surprise of running into each other years after graduating made it evident how much had changed. As we started trading stories about our jobs and lives at the moment, another former classmate walks by, prompting a similar scene of greetings and mutual intrigue. After we had all piled into the train a short time later, I flopped down into my seat and mused about what had just happened. While I ended up taking a few minutes to settle my nerves, I settled into a comfortable calm and suddenly felt inspired to report on what I had experienced. What became clear to me is that when you are caught off-guard by unexpected social situations, you lose the illusion of control over your surroundings, therefore, you subconsciously overthink everything that occurs. It was an especially nerve-wracking scenario because I had only woken up an hour before this meeting and had not yet had my caffeine fix, which my friends joke is the only way I become less zombie and more human. Feeling suddenly thrown back into past friendships can seem weird, even if you are more confident and self-assured than you ever were when you knew them. In the current days of social networking sites such as Facebook, the likelihood of meeting up with old friends and classmates has become exponentially higher. Making good impressions in person, however, and being able to market the real you takes perseverance and is a strength that can only be built upon. Here are some tips for keeping yourself fresh and approachable, even when your nerves have taken over: 1. Keep your eyes peeled and your head held up high. The most important part of being confident is that your inner and outer self match. Stand up straight, have a smile on your face, and keep a watchful eye of your surroundings, as you never know who you are going to meet at any given time. If you are able to display the confidence and self-assured grace that you have built up since your school days, then others will be able to see it, too, and be drawn to you! Embrace your current self and keep others up-to-date on your poised demeanor! The Importance Of Seeking Out Connections With People 2. Smile and look into people’s eyes while talking. This might seem like an obvious idea when it comes to conversation etiquette, but many people forget even the simplest forms of communicating when they encounter an unexpected situation! Although you may be caught off-guard when first seeing someone you know, being able to hold eye contact and provide a warm smile can ease even the most awkward of situations. Reminding yourself that these are people you used to know or should get to know better can put you in a better mindset and ready to communicate more effectively! 3. Brainstorm some interesting “go-to” facts about your life to share with others. One of the most common questions that is asked when you haven’t seen someone in a while is “What are you up to now?” This can be a difficult question to answer for some people, as they might have a myriad of interests or a job that is difficult to describe. If you have a complicated list in your mind at the moment and don’t know how to break it down, think of a few key facts about yourself and keep them in the back of your mind for social situations. You never know when you might need to get your shine on! 4. Wake up with an optimism for the upcoming day. Get yourself ready in the morning with confidence and dress the way you feel best! If you have a poor attitude to begin with, who’s to say the rest of your day won’t be spectacular? You just have to have the faith in who you are – a strong, independent woman who can do anything she puts her mind to! If you don’t keep the glass half full, who will? You have to exude the confidence that you know you have and work it to your advantage. Never give up your self-worth in favor of nerves and lack of courage! Optimism & The Art Of Facing Your Fears 5. Be yourself. Always being true to yourself is the best advice in terms of marketing your strong points and keeping your self-esteem alive! Even if someone tells you that you have to dress differently or adopt a new style that isn’t comfortable for you (unless that person is your boss!), you shouldn’t have to compromise or change yourself for someone else. The best way to show others the real you is to BE the real you from the get-go! Never forget who you are and always strive to better combat your emotions through an optimistic lens. By giving yourself permission to spread your wings as the person you truly are, others will see this brightness and be encouraged by your confident, assured attitude! Be who you are and don’t ever sacrifice that. Being aware of how you exude your outer confidence and attitude makes it much easier to market yourself to the best of your ability – and anyone that you encounter will see this! By bringing out the eye contact, smiling, and assured demeanor when asked about your life, you have the opportunity to come off as an interesting and fantastic person to interact with. Never give up your originality or quirks, as by learning how to use these to your advantage, you can charm anyone with the real you – and be proud of who you are! Why Small Moments In Your Life Can Mean The Most

See the article here:

When I’m thinking about what to write, I often find myself thinking of the small moments in life that tend to make me smile and reflect on the most. I tend to get my best musings when I least expect it, such as during my daily coffee run or while maneuvering down a busy walkway on my way to work. To put the reader in my shoes, you might be waiting in line at your local coffee shop and suddenly feel the hustle and bustle of the morning seemingly slow down as the cashier makes a mistake with the register. That moment of the day might make you stop for a second and begin to realize that the urgency of your surroundings could be internalized stress rather than the actual reality. On a completely different topic, perhaps you’re checking your phone and find yourself smiling from ear to ear due to an unexpected text message. While you feel your day brighten, the other person might not even realize that what they said left you beaming. It’s usually these situations that tend to have the most impact on every day life, despite the fact that they might be quite small in the scheme of events. It truly is the meaning you add to these events that gives them their authenticity and reverence. 5 Ways To Find Inspiration From Within Observing the people around you and enjoying life moment by moment is definitely the better way to be, as you gain perspective from positioning yourself as a moment-maker in the scheme of a big world. Time isn’t infinite and shouldn’t be wasted by letting larger events obscure your view of the smaller, more intimate moments in life. Even just initiating lunch with someone new at work or calling up an old friend can be small gestures that add happiness and fulfillment to your life. If you think of each moment as a movie trailer, the big picture is the product you are generating through the choices you make. By making sure each snippet of your life counts, you have to be present and willing to put yourself out there. This means being aware of the good points of every day and keeping your glass half full, even when you feel like it is empty! Don’t let opportunities pass you by, as taking risks, within reason, is an important part of living your life to its fullest potential. Take pride in each moment, as every second has the ability to change your life! Optimism is a bit part of this, so keep your head facing the future and your eyes open to the details! Gabrielle Giffords Improving, Moving to Houston Rehab Center

The status of Gabrielle Giffords continues to improve. In the latest encouraging news about the Arizona Congresswoman, doctors plan on moving her to a rehab center in Houston in the very near future. This follows yesterday’s significant step, as doctors took Giffords outside for the first time since the January 8 shooting . “I saw the biggest smile she could gather,” trauma surgeon Peter Rhee said of the politician’s reaction to the hospital’s roof deck. “We are very happy to have her enjoying the sunshine of Arizona.” Among recent improvements made by Giffords: She successfully used an iPad. She picked out different colored objects. She moved her lips, although it’s still unclear whether or not she can form words. Mark Kelly, Gabrielle’s astronaut of a husband, thinks his wife is familiar with her surroundings. At yesterday’s briefing, he said: “I can just look in her eyes and tell. She is very aware of the situation.”

Lindsay Lohan for Old Times of the Day

There’s a bullshit staged scandal that Lohan moved next to Ronson and Ronson did know about it and Lohan isn’t gonna back down and move away because Lohan wants to be in Venice to familiarize herself with her surroundings so that when she runs out of money, she will know the best corners on the strip to busk for money on, you know a little song and dance performance next to the black guy with no teeth singing Bob Marley songs for tourists eating their hot dogs……. The truth is that Lohan and Ronson are in on this together, because together, the media cares about them and apart they both fade in boring crackhead lesbian obscurity…. The whole thing is so tired and done that it makes me want to take a nap….I just know their hustle, I’ve met both of them and they are both lying bitches. True story. Here are some pics of Lohan cuz the idea of her is better than the actual her…

Rosie O’Donnell Getting New Show On NBC?

The rumor mill concerning Rosie O’Donnell landing a new daytime show heated up Monday when Gossip Cop reported the comedienne is in talks with NBC. Apparently, the stumbling block is that the broadcasting company wants an out clause in case Rosie has a blow up like she did on ABC’s “The View.” As NewsBusters reported on May 23, 2007, O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into quite a fight about the war in Iraq that was so caustic it ended up being Rosie’s last day on the show. She and ABC agreed to terminate her contract days later. With this in mind, according to Gossip Cop, NBC isn’t taking any chances: The show, as we  previously reported , is looking to launch in the fall of 2011, and will be produced by  Robert F. Kennedy ‘s documentary filmmaking daughter,  Rory Kennedy , along with TV veterans  Dick Robertson   and  Scott Carlin . But there’s one sticking point, says our impeccable insider. According to our source, “NBC wants an out if she implodes like she did on ‘The View.'”  If this is correct, one certainly can’t blame NBC for wanting to hedge its bet. On the other hand, if you’re concerned about the behavior of someone you’re entering into a contract with, isn’t the wisest move to NOT put yourself in a position where said individual could end up embarrassing your organization? As such, why is NBC even considering this risk given O’Donnell’s background? Maybe the folks at NBC ought to watch this before they sign:

AP for Apple Polishers : Elena Kagan ‘Excelled by Dint of Hard Work, Smarts…and Good Situation Sense’

Are the Elena Kagan confirmation hearings an occasion for media explanation…or celebration? The Washington Post Express tabloid ran this headline Monday: “Kagan’s Big Day Finally Arrives.” The copy underneath by AP reporter Nancy Benac sounds like a proud mother more than an objective journalist. She suggested “it may be her own words that best explain her success at charting an undeviating course to the front steps of the high court.” She elaborated about Kagan’s career, in sympathetic tones:  She’s excelled by dint of hard work, smarts and what she describes as good “situation sense” – the ability to size up her surroundings and figure out what truly matters, as she put it during confirmation hearings for her last job, as President Barack Obama’s solicitor general, the government’s top lawyer. It’s what allowed Kagan to channel the thinking of legal giant Thurgood Marshall when she was a “27-year-old pipsqueak” clerk to the justice. It’s what allowed Kagan to navigate through the land mines of government policy on abortion, tobacco and other contentious issues as an adviser to President Bill Clinton. It’s what allowed Kagan to thrive as the first female dean of Harvard Law School and even foster detente within its famously fractious faculty. Now, 50-year-old Elena Kagan stands before the Senate, confident she will be judged ready to join the justices whom she’s calls “fabulously smart, fabulously interesting people.” Only in the last paragraph of the seven-paragraph Express item is there an admission that “Republicans have done plenty of grumbling about her liberal views,” but “all sides anticipate she will be confirmed.” Earlier: AP’s Nancy Benac Excited ‘Bold Colors’ and ‘Squiggly Lines Have Arrived’ on Obama White House Walls
