David Guetta Featured On Akon’s Upcoming Album

‘He’s an incredible producer,’ ‘Kon says of Guetta, set to perform at this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami. By Akshay Bhansali Akon Photo: MTV News For the past two years, David Guetta has been on a house music DJ/producer’s dream run. He has had commercial success doing what few of his colleagues in the electronic world have been able to do: He’s making club music that has American urban artists biting at his heels, has soared into the U.S. charts with a series of monster singles and, after being nominated in three categories, he walked away with the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for his single “When Love Takes Over,” featuring Kelly Rowland. One of his most lasting accomplishments was last year’s Black Eyed Peas single “I Gotta Feeling,” a track he produced that spent 14 weeks at the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over 5 million downloads through February of this year. In addition to Rowland, his album One Love featured notable singles with Estelle (“One Love”) and Kid Cudi (the internationally charting “Memories”). And then there is his most successful single as a solo artist, “Sexy Chick” featuring Akon , which peaked in December of last year at #5 and now, months later, is still perched at #20 on the Hot 100 list. MTV News had chance to catch up with Akon recently on the set of Quincy Jones’ video for his forthcoming album single, “Strawberry Letter 23,” where he broke down a bit of Guetta’s genius for us. “He’s an incredible DJ, first of all,” ‘Kon said. “Second, he’s an incredible producer. He’s the kind of guy that goes outside the box, so we spoke the same language on the production side of things. We just wanted to do something that no one had thought to put together and before you know it, man, we just got together and came up with the most incredible record.” Lately rumors have been swirling that Guetta has produced a song for Rihanna, and that he also recorded with one of Akon’s artists, Lady Gaga, but that turned out to have been just a meeting of mutual appreciation. Still, ‘Kon did reveal to expect another treat courtesy of the “Sexy Chick” pair on his forthcoming album, Stadium. “I got some incredible collaborations,” Akon said. “I just can’t let you know yet. But I can give you a hint: Guetta will be a part of that record as well. It’s gonna be … just wait. I don’t want to overhype it. I just want to put it out and let you see.” If you can’t wait that long, Guetta will be headlining the Ultra Music Fest at the Winter Music Conference in Miami . Also featured at the fest will be Will.I.Am, Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Major Lazer, Calvin Harris, LMFAO, Tiesto, A-Trak and many more. LMFAO Say ‘Partying Is Universal’ At Winter Music Conference

Duo join Will.I.Am, Major Lazer, Nas and more in Miami. By Akshay Bhansali LMFAO Photo: MTV News LMFAO, Will.I.Am, Nas and Damien Marley, David Guetta, Major Lazer and A-Trak are among the artists performing at this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami. The WMC has been the most important electronic music festival in the U.S. for the past 25 years. Typically it has been a place where names like Paul Van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and DJ Tiesto have held court, spinning four- to six-hour sets for their fans. However, a few now-household names first got their start at past WMCs. Back in 2008, a then relatively unknown artist graced the stage of the Armani Exchange Pool Party at the Raleigh Hotel — Stefani Germanotta, otherwise known as Lady Gaga. LMFAO also have the WMC to thank for bringing their music national attention. In their first interview with MTV News in April of last year, just a month after their performance at the Conference, they explained how fast their music caught on. “Before we ever went to Miami, we made the song called ‘I’m in Miami Trick,’ ” Sky Blu explained. “We went to a place called the Clevelander — they played our song and by the second chorus people were singing along with the song like they already knew it. And this had never been played in a club. It had never been played outside of the speakers at our house.” The single would go on to peak at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and since then the guys in LMFAO have released the singles “La La La” and “Shots,” joined the Black Eyed Peas on tour and even managed to get into a Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta bizarre skirmish with Mitt Romney. But it was at the Winter Music Conference where the two first felt a sense that they were onto something. “We are at the Winter Music Conference,” Redfoo said. “Where travelers and DJs from all over the world are coming. People were singing our song that didn’t even speak English — because partying is universal.” LMFAO are planning to do it all again, only this time on a much bigger scale — he guys will be taking the WMC stage for the Ultra Music Festival. The UMF at Winter Music Conference will also feature the likes of Will.I.Am, A-Trak, Major Lazer, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Passion Pit and many more. Lady Gaga Is Exhausted

With all due respect, Gaga seems pretty exhausted at this performance in New Zealand, where she spent the majority of the performance seated or (yikes) on her back. Although if we'd exerted as much energy as she apparently did making the “Telephone” video, we'd probably be dead. Get well, Gaga! The Best Links: via ohnotheydidnt Watch

Spotted: Tiger and Elin Woods Kissing!

Mother of God. We knew the ice had been thawing between Tiger Woods and his wife Elin, but weren’t prepared for a report of them – gasp! – kissing this week. What’s next? Her letting him get to second base? Tiger and Elin Woods were spotted smooching Monday for the first time in months, according to a “close source” Radar Online may have invented for all we know. “They were hugging and they were kissing right out in the open,” an eyewitness told the site. “Elin is certainly a lot more relaxed these days and so is Tiger.” Good to hear. “People in the neighborhood are getting used to seeing them together again,” the source adds. So does this mean it’s all water under the bridge? Time will tell. But they were arm-in-arm before the once-estranged spouses hugged and kissed openly. “They’ve come a long, long way,” the source said. “There was a time when she wouldn’t even look at him.” Elin agreed to move back home with Tiger at some point in the past week. She has not actually moved in yet as of now, although she is still planning to. The Swedish stunner rented a house about a mile away from their home. And while she is still sleeping there, she and Tiger are spending time together. That’s been the routine, at least in the short term, as he tries to win her back after undergoing rehab . For now, it looks like the couple’s divorce is off. “Elin has not wanted to give up on the marriage,” says the source. “Plus, she still is in love with him, and always has been, after everything he’s done.” Elin staying with Tiger after all of this is …

Snoop Dogg And Kid Cudi Collaborate On ‘That Tree’

‘I did some more work on it and that’s why it’s just coming out now,’ producer Diplo says of track. By Hillary Crosley Snoop Dogg Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images Snoop Dogg just released his Malice N Wonderland album late last year, but that’s not stopping the West Coast MC from teaming up with Kid Cudi and hipster producer Diplo for his new single “That Tree” for his follow-up LP More Malice. The album is slated to hit shelves on March 23. The track is a trippy mix of descending drum rolls as Snoop comically rhymes “groupies on my head like a kufi” until Kid Cudi’s voice begins the melodious hook. “Everything I’m having no it ain’t necessity/ Though I’m shining, keep on grinding/ What you see ain’t all of me,” Cudi sings over organs. As enjoyable as the song is, Diplo, the cut’s producer (who has also worked with M.I.A. and Santigold), had no idea the two rappers were even recording the track. “I’ve known Snoop’s manager Ted Chung for a while and I actually met Snoop through the Swedish singer Robyn at the Grammys last year,” Diplo recalled. “We exchanged information because he’d heard of me and I kept in touch. When Ted came around asking for beats, I didn’t have any so I gave him some small loops and Ted actually just looped the loops over again.” Diplo never heard anything more about the beats until late one night during another recording session with Kid Cudi. “Cudi was like, ‘I just did a track with Snoop over your beat.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ ” Diplo told MTV News. “I had no idea that Ted had taken the small loops and they’d rapped on it, so Ted eventually sent me back a vocal and I kind of constructed a track around that.” Unfortunately, “That Tree” did not make the track listing for Malice N Wonderland. “It didn’t make that album because of deadlines and it wasn’t in the right shape,” Diplo said. “But they liked the track and really wanted to use it, so I did some more work on it and that’s why it’s just coming out now.” Related Artists Snoop Dogg Kid Cudi
