Robert Pattinson Reflects On ‘Twilight Saga’ Success At MTV Movie Awards

‘I just have to keep working to not explode,’ he tells MTV News of the wild ride. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — A long time ago, in a faraway land (OK, maybe it was just Portland), the stars of the “Twilight” series were nobodies. Hopes weren’t terribly high when that girl from “The Messengers,” Mike Dexter from “Can’t Hardly Wait” and the kid who died in the “Harry Potter” movies came together to shoot Stephenie Meyer’s first novel. But as the “Saga” stars dominated another MTV awards show this weekend, Robert Pattinson couldn’t help but marvel at how far they’ve come. “It’s crazy,” the spiky-haired superstar marveled at the MTV Movie Awards , looking back on simpler times. “For it to have accelerated so quickly.” At the 2008 Movie Awards, the first “Twilight” film was barely approaching the end of production when some last-minute scrambling had Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart walking the red carpet … so unnoticed that they had to go back and start again because no one was stopping them for questions. Well, except us . “I should have done a more coherent speech for the Global thing,” RPattz said of his Global Superstar win, appreciating the massive audience all over the world that has tuned in over the past few years to hang on his every word (that is, when he’s not being cut off by the host ). “It’s just so ridiculous.” The 2009 Movie Awards were the culmination of the chaos, as KStew and RPattz’s initial wave of fame swept over Universal City. This time, the stars were accompanied by Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Taylor Lautner and Peter Facinelli — many of whom weren’t even invited the previous year. By the end of the night, they were the new kings and queens of the show. “I still don’t have any idea what’s going on,” Rob admitted to us backstage this year. “I just have to keep working to not explode. “I’m incredibly appreciative of every little piece that’s come together,” he concluded, flashing that same charming, uneasy grin that he’s brought with him to Universal City for the past three years, “so I can be living this ridiculous life.” Relive the wildest, funniest and most-jaw-dropping moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, watch revealing red-carpet interviews and get exclusive movie clips after the show at MovieAwards.MTV.com . The ‘Twilight’ Stars’ History With The MTV Movie Awards

From Kristen Stewart dropping her award to her near-kiss with Robert Pattinson, ‘The Twilight Saga’ has provided the awards show with many memorable moments. By Amy Wilkinson Anna Kendrick, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Getty Images As host Aziz Ansari joked at the close of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, the “New Moon” sweep of all the categories surprised, well, no one. In fact, anyone who’s watched the Movie Awards over the past three years knows the vampire saga and the awards ceremony go together almost as well as a clumsy teen named Bella and the century-old bloodsucker who loves her. Months before “Twilight” hit theaters back in November 2008, under-the-radar stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart — wearing matching Ray-Bans — and co-star Cam Gigandet attended the 2008 Movie Awards to introduce an exclusive clip from the Saga’s first film during the pre-show — the pre-show! But by the time the trio and co-star Taylor Lautner appeared at the Video Music Awards a few months later to introduce “Twilight” soundtrack band Paramore, they’d gained plenty of buzz. In fact, many Twilighters were outraged when host Russell Brand supposedly interrupted Pattinson during his speech. Hordes of Twilighters took to the Web to express their frustration and anger at the host. Fast-forward to 2009’s Movie Awards and Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner had become worldwide superstars thanks to the runaway box-office success of “Twilight” and the ensuing “Twilight” mania sweeping the nation. “Twilight” scored five Golden Popcorns that night, including Best Movie, Best Female Performance for Stewart, Breakthrough Performance Male for Pattinson, Best Kiss for Stewart and Pattinson and Best Fight for Pattinson and Gigandet. “Twilight” nearly swept every category it was nominated in save for Best Song From a Movie, which went to Miley Cyrus instead of Paramore’s “Decode.” The cast’s appearance at the 2009 show garnered many memorable moments. While accepting her Golden Popcorn for Best Female Performance, Stewart famously fumbled her award, with it eventually thudding to the floor of the Gibson Amphitheatre stage (which is probably why one of the first things she did during her 2010 win was place the statue safely on the ground before her speech). Later, when Stewart and Pattinson won the honor for Best Kiss, the two torturously teased the audience with the possibility of a lip-lock. Pattinson took the gum out of his mouth, the two closed their eyes and leaned in, but before the pucker could take place, Stewart turned away yelling, “Thank you so much!” Though fans likely felt slighted by the Pattinson/Stewart almost-kiss, they were aptly rewarded later in the ceremony when the duo and Lautner debuted the first “New Moon” trailer, which Pattinson called “a thank-you to the fans.” A few months later at the 2009 VMA Awards, the stars doubly thanked fans by introducing an extended version of the “New Moon” trailer. At this year’s ceremony, the vampire saga finally completed its long-awaited sweep — not to mention, Twilighters got what they truly wanted: a quick onstage kiss between Bella and Edward, er, Stewart and Pattinson. Snooki Weighs In On Kristen Stewart’s Movie Award-Nominated Kisses

‘If Kristen wins with Dakota, Rob is going to be very jealous,’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ starlet tells MTV News. By Christopher “CJ” Smith Snooki Photo: MTV News One of the hottest categories (literally) at Sunday’s 2010 MTV Movie Awards will be Best Kiss , and there’s plenty of lip-smacking smooches to drool over. Kristen Stewart has two chances to pick up some Golden Popcorn in the coveted category, as she’s nominated for her kisses with Dakota Fanning in “The Runaways” and with Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” “Jersey Shore” starlet Snooki knows a thing or two about locking lips, but even she was shocked at the amount of action Kristen got onscreen. “And I’m the whore!” she told MTV News when asked which Kristen kiss was hottest. She even predicted some trouble for the (rumored) “Twilight” couple if the “Runaways” kiss takes home the gold. “If Kristen wins with Dakota, Rob is going to be very jealous,” she said. “But, you know, maybe he’ll be a little excited!” It’s possible the two Kristen kisses will split the votes and neither will end up on top, giving fellow nominees Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds from “The Proposal,” Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner from “Valentine’s Day” or Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington from the blockbuster “Avatar” a path to victory. You’ll just have to tune in Sunday to find out the results! During MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” which airs at 8 p.m., right before the Movie Awards, Snooki, Pauly, JWoww, the Situation, Angelina, Sammi, Ronnie and Vinny will present the first 10 minutes of “Jersey Shore” season two . The new season, which premieres in full on Thursday, July 29, follows the cast as they leave the chilly winter waters of Seaside Heights and head out on a road trip to Miami. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Is ‘Big Enough’ For Two Films, Chris Weitz Says

‘New Moon’ director also talks birth scene: ‘Kristen Stewart giving live birth through the stomach in 3-D! I’m there.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Weitz Photo: MTV News The “Twilight” gang loves Chris Weitz. There’s no doubting that. In the run-up to the release of the Weitz-helmed “New Moon,” Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner spoke effusively about working with the director, even hoping he might reprise his role behind the camera for “Breaking Dawn.” Weitz ended up declining the opportunity to bring the final book in the vampire series to the big screen, but he remains flattered that the cast supports him and even has a bit of advice for “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”). “That’s very sweet,” Weitz told MTV News when reminded of how the cast has championed him. “I think that’s because I was the last person who directed them.” Weitz, who led “New Moon” to more than $700 million in worldwide box-office receipts, is confident that Condon is the right man to step into the director’s chair for “Breaking Dawn.” “I think he’s terribly talented,” Weitz said. “I know him, he’s a solid citizen, great guy, very smart. I think he’s going to do an amazing job.” His one piece of advice? “Think carefully about babies clawing out of people’s stomachs,” Weitz said in reference to one scene in the book, going on to refer to an even more famous scene in 1979’s “Alien.” “[Director] Ridley Scott sort of did it.” Weitz added with a laugh, “Kristen Stewart giving live birth through the stomach in 3-D! I’m there. I’m paying.” And he’d be happy to pay for not just one film, but two. It has long been rumored that “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two flicks. That’s a move Weitz endorses. “The book is big enough that it would warrant it,” he said. ‘Eclipse’ TV Spots Reveal Brand-New Scenes, ‘An Army of Vampires’

Newborn Riley Biers declares, ‘I’m going to end the Cullen clan,’ in new online ‘Eclipse’ trailers. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Entertainment The powers that be at Summit Entertainment sure know how to bait “Twilight” fans. With roughly four weeks to go until “Eclipse” opens , Twi-hards are atwitter about not one, but two new TV spots/trailers for the third installment unveiled Thursday (June 3). The first spot, via MSN Movies , differs from the earlier trailer revealed in March in that it’s focused on the action/tension factor: mainly, the build-up and preparation for climactic war between the vampire clans. Bella is shown looking incredulous, as she tries to grasp what is “an army of vampires.” Then it moves to Jasper standing in what looks to be an open field or battlefield — “No human army can stand against them,” he says. Cut to Edward reassuring Bella that he won’t let anything happen to her. “We’ll protect you, no matter what,” he says. A split-second later, Dr. Cullen is shown meeting with Jacob in his office, as he tries to persuade the wolf pack not to fight. The family patriarch warns it will be an “ugly fight, with lives lost.” “We’re in,” Jacob responds, followed by quick cuts to the impending battle, and Bella telling both Jacob and Edward, “We have to work together.” The trailer ends with lightening-fast shots of the intense battle sequences. The second new spot, on Fandango.com , is entitled “Missing” and centers on the character of newborn vampire Riley Biers. Scenes flash back to Riley’s unexplained (human) death and disappearance, and then the newborn is seen expressing his hatred for the Cullens. In the 30-second clip, Dr. Cullen, presumably after he has discovered Riley and his destructive plans says, “He’s creating an army of vampires.” This is followed by Riley’s passionate declaration: “I’m going to end the Cullen clan.” The rest of the TV spot features the aforementioned high-octane vampire-on-vampire, wolf-on-vampire action sequences shown previously in the original “Eclipse” trailer.
