Damn. 23 Males Die In South Africa From Circumcision According to Raw Story South African police said Friday they had launched a series of murder inquiries after 23 males died while undergoing circumcision during traditional rites of passage into manhood. The 23 — aged between 13 and 21 — died in various places across the country’s northeastern Mpumalanga province over the course of a week. “We have opened 22 cases of murder and one of inquest,” regional police spokesman Leonard Hlathi told AFP. One of the deaths was labelled “inquest” because the boy reportedly had an existing health condition. There have been no arrests yet as police compile statements and await post-mortem results. Ritual circumcision is common among South Africa’s ethnic Xhosa, Sotho and Ndebele ethnic groups. Deaths at so-called initiation schools in South Africa are common, with several hundred cases recorded in recent years due to bleeding and infections. Boys spend around a month in secluded bush or mountains areas for the sessions that also include lessons on the virtues of masculine courage and discipline. There are usually two circumcision seasons – in winter during the months of May through July and in summer between November and December. Government and the ruling African National Congress Party have expressed concern at the deaths which have nonetheless sparked little public outrage. Government spokeswoman Phumla Williams called on the initiation schools “to ensure that precautionary health measures are exercised during this period to minimise illnesses and death.” Minister in The Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane said he was saddened by the loss of young lives. The “loss of several young lives in Mpumalanga and elsewhere in the country is regrettable,” Chabane said this week. The singer Tweeted a photo of her kitten this week, including with the shot of Meredith and a message that reads: “USE YOUR STOMACH AS A PILLOW.” “Found her sleeping like this,” Swift wrote. “No idea how she didn’t suffocate on her own fur.” The pet’s full moniker is Meredith Grey and, yes, she’s named after Ellen Pompeo’s Grey’s Anatomy character. Will this meme grow as viral as McKayla Maroney not being impressed by things or as popular as Clint Eastwood and his Eastwooding ? Probably not. But it’s very cute!

Jenelle Evans came clean last night on MTV’s Teen Mom 2 reunion. The troubled star opened up to Dr. Drew about how her ex Kieffer Delp got her addicted to heroin , and shot her up so much one time, she nearly died. Jenelle said the only reason she got back together with Kieffer is because she felt so alone and rejected after her ex-fiance Gary Head assaulted her. She has a way of exaggerating claims against her exes and blaming everyone else for her problems, but for Jenelle, this was still a major confession. Evans said she desperately turned to Kieffer for support, and in turn he enabled her to do drugs and reportedly got her to try heroin for the first time. “I had never tried it, so I tried it. I was throwing up every five minutes. I was in the hospital three times, you can’t sleep because you are in withdrawal,” she said. Jenelle Evans also said she was in withdrawal for about a month, and broke things off with Kieffer for good, something Dr. Drew was skeptical about. He also disputed whether he used clean needles every time. Yikes. Jenelle’s mom Barbara Evans came out and said after witnessing her daughter strung out and living with an addict, she had to do what she needed to do. She had her committed out of fear for 21-year-old little girl’s life. Because of Jenelle’s unstable behavior, she said it would be a while until she lets her have custody, or even more visitation with Jenelle’s son Jace, 3. She can see him Thursday through Sunday, at home. That’s it. Dr. Drew also spoke with Kailyn Lowry , specifically about her baby daddy Jo Rivera‘s girlfriend Vee Torres, and how Kailyn won’t give her much of a chance. Kailyn can’t seem to get past the pot-smoking pics she saw online, and says she wants to “rip Vee’s head off” and has no desire to get to know her. She doesn’t want Vee to be taking care of Isaac, period. Even though Jo Rivera is, by most accounts, a doting and loving dad, and her marriage to Javi Marroquin means they could move across the U.S. When Dr. Drew brought Vee out on the stage, it was the first time they had officially met! Vee said she is studying to be a teacher and is good with kids. Vee actually wants what’s best for Isaac, believe it or not. After Dr. Drew kept asking Kailyn why she doesn’t want to get to know Vee, Lowry stormed off the stage and that was pretty much it. Good times. A day in the life of a Teen Mom 2 star …

According to Pacific Coast News, Harry Styles moved on from his ex-girlfriend for at least one night on Thursday, kissing and holding hands with a woman 14 years his senior: Kimberly Stewart! The One Direction member reportedly attended a concert by Kimberly’s famous father earlier in the evening and then joined the family for dinner in Los Angeles.
