Things haven’t been looking too great for Amber Portwood lately. But just because things are going badly doesn’t mean you can’t look good! Amber put all her issues (which we’ll discuss momentarily!) aside this weekend so that she could give herself a whole new look. That’s the “before” photo she shared on Instagam. Sure, it’s pretty filtered, but take it in. “Hair is going PINK today!!!!” she revealed in the caption. “You can’t talk me out of it lol.” Pink hair, huh? Is that too big a change for the famously blonde Teen Mom star? Can she pull it off? Amber didn’t wait to long to share the “after” photo, the one with all the pink hair, so go ahead and judge for yourself: It looks cute, right? And despite that remarkably glum look on this face, she wrote in the caption that she loves the change. And hey, good for her. She deserves to feel good about herself, and she should — she looks great. But there’s a good chance Amber decided to go for such a different look to get her mind off her recent legal troubles. Amber and her sketchy boyfriend, Matt Baier, are being sued by their former rental company for unpaid rent and repairs. Why didn’t they pay rent, if Amber’s got all that Teen Mom money and Matt’s preparing to release his memoir ? It’s a good question, but one we don’t have the answer for. According to the court documents filed by the rental company, Amber and Matt owe $1,600 for failing to pay their last month of rent, as well as thousands of dollars worth of damages, much of it inflicted by the couple’s many pets. To repair the carnage left in Amber and Matt’s wake, the company says they’ll need to repair damaged dry wall, replace the vertical blinds, and order new mini blinds and a new door knob. They’ll also have to get a new smoke detector and install it, and there’s a whole lot to be done to the outside of the house, too. For what it’s worth, Amber’s former neighbor has disputed the rental company’s claims, saying that Amber’s old house looks fine and that it’s already being rented to someone new. She’s due in court in late February to deal with all this … but at least we know she’ll look fabulous while doing so.
Sad news today: Yordano Ventura is dead. Ventura, a 25-year-old pitcher for the World Series-winning Kansas City Royals , died today in a car crash in the Dominican Republic. It’s unclear exactly what happened to cause the crash, but according to Sports Illustrated, it’s believed that he was under the influence at the time of the crash. A Dominican police chief first broke the news of the crash, tweeting in Spanish “Regrettable!! It is the player YORDANO VENTURA the person who died in an accident in Juan Adrian at dawn today.” Later, the Vice President of Communications and Broadcasting for the Royals confirmed the news. “It is with a heavy and broken heart that we confirm the passing of Yordano Ventura,” he tweeted. “The club will release a statement soon. #RIPAce” — Ace, of course, being Ventura’s nickname. The Royals released an official press release just a few hours ago to “regretfully announce the passing of Yordano Ventura, who perished in a car accident last night in the Dominican Republic.” In the statement, Dayton Moore, general manager of the Royals, said “Our prayers right now are with Yordano’s family as we mourn this young man’s passing.” “He was so young and so talented, full of youthful exuberance and always brought a smile to everyone he interacted with.” “We will get through this as an organization,” Moore concluded, “but right now is a time to mourn and celebrate the life of Yordano.” The statement also included some information about Ventura’s short career, which he spent entirely with the Royals “after signing as a non-drafted free agent in 2008” before “debuting for the club” in 2013. He played two World Series with the team, helping bring them their second ever victory in 2015. During the last game Ventura played, he wore a special hat that paid tribute to two other baseball players who died too soon: Jose Fernandez who died last fall in a boating accident , and Oscar Taveras who died in a car crash a few years ago. Ventura’s teammates are already sending messages of mourning and love on Twitter. “I love you Ace,” third baseman Mike Moustakas wrote. “I don’t know what to say other than I’m going to miss you a lot. RIP ACE.” First baseman Eric Hosmer tweeted “ACE I love you my brother. I’m in disbelief and don’t know what to say. I love you ACE.” Drew Butera, a catcher for the Royals, wrote “Gone way too soon. You will forever be my brother. My prayers are with you and your family. May you rest with the Lord now.” Fellow pitcher Kyle Zimmer wrote “We lost a great one today. Hard to believe he’s actually gone. You will be greatly missed, Ace.” Hunter Dozier said “I’m at a loss of words today.. Very sad day in the baseball community. You’ll be missed Ace.” “When you scroll down and your whole newsfeed is talking about your brother,” left fielder Terrance Gore mused. “The impact the energy you brought to our team #GoneTooSoon” “I am still in disbelief,” pitcher Matt Strahm wrote. “I am going to miss you Ace! The clubhouse won’t be the same without you.” General manager Dayton Moore added “We love Yordano. We love his heart & who he was as a teammate & friend. He challenged us & made us better. We’re going to miss him.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragic death.
Taylor Swift, more than any other popular celebrity, was extremely quiet during the 2016 presidential election. Aside from one social media post on Election Day expressing the importance of voting, she didn’t say a word — and a lot of people have been upset with her for it. Taylor is obviously one of the most influential celebrities today, and if she’d have been a little more outspoken about her political beliefs , some argue, it would have meant a lot to her fans. Of course, that’s assuming she supported Hillary Clinton. If she supported Trump , speaking out about it would have essentially been career suicide. But no matter who was Taylor’s pick for president, she obviously had no obligation to announce it. And remember, it was years and years into Taylor’s career before she felt comfortable enough to call herself a feminist , and even then, she only did it when feminism became something of a trend. All that is to say that Taylor’s never been one to loudly broadcast her political beliefs, especially if they’re even the slightest bit controversial. And boy, is she paying for it now. Yesterday, while hundreds of thousands of people all around the world were participating in the Women’s March — many of them celebrities — Taylor tweeted this: “So much love, pride, and respect for those who marched. I’m proud to be a woman today, and every day.” And immediately after she sent the tweet, people took issue with it. “This is gross opportunism,” one person told her. “Be better.” “As a fan of yours,” another person wrote, “this is some bullsh-t. You do not get to pick and choose when feminism benefits you .” The same person added “If you were really for feminism you would have spoken up against Donald Trump instead of just saying to vote on Election Day.” “You got a bad leg or something?” a follower hilariously pondered. “Why didn’t you March?” One person pulled out all the stops and told Taylor to “Stop using feminism as a prop to fuel your fake girl power narrative/meticulously crafted PR persona.” And that’s the issue: if Taylor truly was a feminist, these people believe that she should have been more vocal during the election, when it mattered the most. It’s so easy to take ten seconds and send a tweet, but why wasn’t she spotted at any marches yesterday? Rihanna and Katy Perry, two pop stars on Taylor’s level, managed to go out and support the cause they believe in, and there were no issues, no one caused a scene over seeing someone famous and stopped marching. Did she tweet about the Women’s March because she sincerely had feelings about it, or for the likes? It’s hard to say. But the point is that if Taylor really does feel so strongly about all this, there are a million things she could have done in the past several months to prove it. Let’s go back to a happier time, a simpler time. Back to a time when we didn’t know the horrors that would be attacking us on a near constant basis as they are now. Let’s go back to 2012, when Taylor Swift was dating Conor Kennedy , son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and, at the time, high school student. Wasn’t that such a beautiful time? Just think, how innocent we were. We’re bringing all this up, by the way, because little Conor Kennedy got himself arrested last night after getting into a bar fight in Aspen, Colorado. He was charged with disorderly conduct after police officers pulled him off a guy outside a bar. The officers reported that the men were “rolling around on the ground,” and that Conor punched his opponent repeatedly in the head, then struggled against the cop that tried to pull him away. What would Taylor think?! As it turns out, she might not be all that scandalized, because according to further reports, Conor got into the fight in the first place because he was defending his friend. What happened, according to the Kennedy family, is that Conor was out with a friend at the bar when a group of guys started calling his friend some homophobic slur. Conor asked the guys to apologize, and one of them did, but about an hour later, the rowdy, ignorant bunch was leaving and they decided to do some more name-calling. Good Guy Conor told them to stop, but one of the trolls pulled out a classic “Whatchu gonna do about it?” and decided to throw a punch. That’s when the fight broke out. The arresting officer says that Conor did claim that the guy “called my friend the F-word,” and unfortunately we all know what F-word he’s talking about. The officer also says that Conor apologized to him for struggling when he was trying to restrain him. Conor’s father, Robert Kennedy Jr., has made a statement, explaining that “Conor has always reacted against bullying. I’m happy he stood up for his friend.” “I’m very sorry it turned into a police incident,” he added. Apparently Conor is “not liking the attention.” Conor’s lawyer also made a statement — as he claims, “Multiple witnesses to the incident have reported that two men assaulted Conor Kennedy after he rebuked them for directing a homophobic slur and threats to his close friend.” So that’s a little bit heroic, huh? A little like when he was arrested in 2013 for protesting the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline : Sure, violence is so rarely the answer and all that, but if he was going to get arrested for a bar fight, at least it was for a noble reason. Lena Dunham may be best known to many people as the woman who often shows her boobs on television. But the actress is now in major hot water for a different body part: her foot. Because she just went ahead and stuck it way deep into her mouth. While hosting the podcast Women of the Hour , the Girls star told the audience about a visit to a Texas Planned Parenthood years ago, at which time a girl asked her to share her experience with abortion. Dunham, an outspoken liberal who is pro-choice, explains how she “sort of jumped” at the request because she had never had an abortion. She could go out there and fight for equality and for a woman's right to choose and support anyone who has been through this traumatic experience… … but it suddenly hit her: She couldn't empathize. Because she had no idea what it was actually, truly like to have an abortion. Dunham went on to commend those close to her for their “bravery” and “self-knowledge” for having gone through this procedure, saying she realized that needed to put her own stigma surrounding the issue “in the garbage.” And then Dunham said: “Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.” YIKES, Lena! You wish you had terminated a fetus?!? We think we understand what you were getting at here… we're pretty sure you were just trying to say that you wish you could have an even better perspective on this issue in order to even more strongly advocate for it… but, again: YIKES . Drake. Drizzy. Aubree. Wheelchair Jimmy. The Emo Emcee. Whatever you want to call him, Drake is one of the biggest – and most sensitive – rappers in the game. But while it may make him an easy target for rival rappers, the vulnerable persona seems to be working for him with the ladies, as Drake is quickly becoming the male Taylor Swift in terms of the celebrity notches on his bedpost. (Actually, Drake is the male Taylor Swift in more ways than one, but that’s a discussion for another time.) Given the artists’ shared fondness for sex with other famous people, the rumors that Drake and Taylor were dating didn’t come as much of a shock. (Even if they did turn out to be almost certainly bogus.) In the same vein, it’s both surprising and not remotely surprising that TMZ is now reporting that Drake is dating Jenifer Lopez . It’s unexpected in that J-Lo is 17 years Drake’s senior and just got out of a serious relationship. However, it makes perfect sense when one considers that Drake is so drawn to fame and success we’re surprised he hasn’t pulled a Kanye and buddied up to Trump . So what’s the evidence that these two are hooking up? Well, the speculation started when Drake attended Jen’s Vegas show twice in one week. Last night, he rented out Delilah restaurant in West Hollywood in her honor. Granted, they were joined by 20 other people, but it’s still a major gesture for a platonic friend. A source close to the situation says Drake and J-Lo aren’t officially dating yet , but seem to be “headed in that direction.” Careful with that man’s heart, Jen. It’s fragile.
