Ted Williams Mug Shots, Arrests Records: Released

Ever since his sudden burst on to the national scene, Ted Williams has been honest about possessing a checkered past. The homeless man with a golden voice has admitted that drugs and alcohol played a role in many mistakes, but The Smoking Gun has now come out with specifics regarding various arrests and citations. The rap sheet for Williams includes theft, robbery, escape, forgery and drug possession. As recently as July 2010, a businessman called the cops on this Brooklyn native and a female friend who refused to leave the premises. He told authorities that Williams had become an “ongoing problem” and that the woman often got “dropped off in the parking lot by various and numerous males in different vehicles.” Williams told Matt Lauer this week that his life “went to pits” and that he hopes he’ll take advantage of this second chance. But if it’s more like a seventh chance, many critics might believe Williams doesn’t deserve it.

Kanye West Turned Defiance Into Victory In 2010

Via Twitter, G.O.O.D. Fridays and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ‘Ye came out on top this year. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Kanye West performs at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images So, this Kanye West fella, you might have heard of him. He basically Swift-boated his career at the 2009 VMAs, went into a self-imposed exile and then triumphantly returned nearly a year later with what many have called the best album of 2010. Huh? In just over 12 months, West baffled critics by going from zero to hero, while still lashing out at the media and, with stunts like his #kanyeshrug hashtag, essentially proving he’s the same guy he always was. “I think the thing with Kanye, he really just stuck to the same script, which is basically, Iove me or hate me but the music is gonna be so great you have to deal with me,” Complex editor-in-chief Noah Callahan-Bever told MTV News. “And that’s been the story of his career since the beginning. I think this year, he happened to be loved or hated in such extremes at the end of 2009, going on a self-imposed exile in Hawaii, he really created a currency in the intrigue with what he was doing.” What he was doing was assembling a barrage of hip-hop’s best producers — including Q-Tip, the RZA, Pete Rock and more — and a diverse range of collaborators to help put together his artistic denouement: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The collection was bombastic musically and browbeating lyrically. The first shot, “Power,” was a sonic middle finger to his detractors. ‘Ye looked at his life and career and took stock of his place in the pop-culture ranks. It was a manifesto, of sorts, in which West declared that he was aware of his flaws and mistakes but everyone else can take them or leave them. “He really figured that great music will change things,” RapRadar and RESPECT. magazine’s Elliot Wilson explained. It wasn’t just the music, though, that helped Kanye come back into people’s good graces once again. He took to Twitter to voice this thoughts, sometimes in amusing non sequiturs, sometimes in revealing bunches of dispatches came in bunches, like when he addressed, once and for all, the Taylor Swift incident. In words that he couldn’t seem to put to melody or properly convey to a talk-show host, West simply took responsibility, apologized and moved on to the next track. And then he proceeded to change the subject with his string of G.O.O.D. Friday releases online. “He did select press but he made a lot of noise online,” New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. “I think he understood quickly how to make the best use of that medium.” But what the critics and everyone who catches themselves constantly humming songs from Fantasy agree on is that “he really brought it all back to the music,” as Callahan-Bever put it. “At the end of the day no Taylor Swift incident or ‘Today’ show appearance can take away from [that].” Related Videos Stories Of 2010 Related Photos Kanye West’s Amazing Year Related Artists Kanye West

Taylor Swift Is MTV News’ #3 Woman Of The Year

Swift fell in and out of love through song, but we never stopped loving the superstar in 2010. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: AP/Matt Sayles After a year as impressive as 2009, Taylor Swift followed suit in 2010. She toured the world, released a chart-topping album and even starred in her first feature film. Swift kicked off the year winning awards and ended it dominating the charts, and in between, she never looked back. (They’re more than just pretty faces, but you can still check out photos of our Men and Women of 2010!) Swift proved that she was more than just a crossover coincidence thanks to catchy songs and girl-next-door charm that appeals to the masses. She managed to scoop up awards and be surprised by each win. The other shoe isn’t going to drop anytime soon, and 2010 proved that. 2010 Highlights : In January, Taylor took home her first People’s Choice Award and covered Better Than Ezra’s “Breathless” at the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon. She also broke Britney Spears’ record for first-week download sales by a female artist thanks to her tune “Today Was a Fairytale.” But it was February that would truly leave her breathless. At the Grammys in February, Swift took home four trophies , including Album of the Year. She also hit the stage with Stevie Nicks at the awards show. Weeks later, she would rule the box office alongside former beau Taylor Lautner in “Valentine’s Day.” Swift spent much of 2010 on tour, but along the way, she racked up nominations at a slew of awards shows, including the Academy of Country Music Awards and CMT Awards . In the spring, she revealed that she was working on her next album and that, unsurprisingly, it would focus on “boys and love.” In July, the singer announced that her next album would be out in October and that she wouldn’t hold back on the aptly titled Speak Now. Weeks later, in August, the album’s first single, “Mine,” leaked online and then soared to the top of the charts. “I was reflecting back on a boy I liked at a certain time,” she said about the song. The video was released at the end of August and showed a more adult side of the singer. Then September rolled around and Swift took the stage at the VMAs . It was a defining moment for the singer, as she publicly let go of the Kanye West incident from a year prior and buried the hatchet with the rapper thanks to her heartfelt performance of “Innocent.” Swift later explained , “I had a lot of options going into the VMAs: You can not go, you can perform your current single, you can pretend that nothing happened or you can say what you need to say at the time you need to say it.” By early October, Swift was pre-releasing Speak Now tracks, prompting speculation about whether the songs were referring to famous exes like Taylor Lautner and Joe Jonas . “I’ve never kept quiet the fact that I write songs about people,” she said. “It’s like, this is album number three. You guys have had fair warning!” For the album’s release, Swift invited fans to her album-release party , and just one week later, she found out that Speak Now had sold 1,047,000 units in its first week, making it the biggest album release in five years . Swift capped 2010 with performances at the CMA Awards and the American Music Awards , announcing a world tour , embarking on a whirlwind romance with Jake Gyllenhaal and turning 21 . Not a bad year, to say the least. We’ll be rolling out our Top Five Men and Women of 2010 all week, until we unveil MTV News’ Man and Woman of the Year on Friday. Alexa Chung Lands New, Boring Show on PBS

As far as career moves go, this isn’t the kind most television personalities aim for: Alexa Chung is going from MTV to PBS. The former host of It’s On With Alexa Chung has signed on for Thrift America , an upcoming PBS program. It will premiere this summer and feature Chung combing through garage sales and flea markets in cities such as Detroit, Nashville and Brooklyn. Sounds like an utter bore. Do viewers really need to watch someone show us how to save money? Spending within one’s means is not a very complicated concept. We’ll take a drunken Situation or script-reading Brad Womack over this nonsense any day of the week.

Kara DioGuardi to Pen American Idol-Based Memoir

Forget trees falling in the forest. Consider this question: if someone pens a memoir, but no one ever reads it, does the book actually exist? We ask this question in light of the news that Kara DioGuardi will release “A Helluva High Note: Surviving Life, Love, And American Idol,” in April 2011. The songwriter, who was never very popular during her two years on the show, was fired/quit Idol in early September. DioGuardi says the autobiography “is meant to inspire others to take chances to succeed.” Her next career move will be serving as a judge on a new Bravo singer/songwriter competition titled Going Platinum . Will you purchase her memoir?

Dane Cook Talks ‘Very Strange’ Taylor Swift Tattoo

‘The minute it went to commercial, she goes, ‘What the f— was that?’ comedian jokes about Swift’s reaction to ‘Tonight Show’ tribute. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Dane Cook Photo: MTV News Dane Cook shocked Taylor Swift with an original song when both were guests on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” last week. Cook sang a tune about how much he loves Swift and it was a moment made more comical because he performed it shirtless with a portrait of Swift and her name tattooed on his chest. “You’re speaking of the Taylor Swift ‘Tonight Show’ viral sensation, which is burning up the Internet charts. Well, that was years of planning,” Cook joked to MTV News when we met up to talk about his new album, I Did My Best – Greatest Hits. “It’s a real tattoo, so I had to do it over three stages of nine months … either that version of the story [about how it happened or] it took about 15 minutes the night before to write the little ditty. “I have a friend who’s a tattoo artist [and] I came off the tour, slopped that on there and I can’t get it off,” he continued. “I’ve tried rubbing alcohol. I’ve tried abrasive toothpaste, and it freaks me out. I looked in the mirror after my shower, like, ‘Taylor Swift’s face is staring back at me, very strange.’ ” Cook admitted that Swift had a great sense of humor about the whole thing. “You know, she comes across as very sweet but the minute it went to commercial she looked at me and she goes, ‘What the f— was that?’ No, I’m kidding,” he said. “She actually was really super sweet. We did get to talk a little bit and she thought it was really a very, very nice moment and then afterwards we took some pictures. We’re fast friends. We’re Twitter friends now so, you know, once you’re on Twitter with somebody it’s a camaraderie that can never be broken.” So what will the comedian do if he can’t get that tattoo off? “I figure, date really beautiful blondes and change the name — just keep getting that removed,” he joked.
