Conan’s 1st TBS Ad — The Last Second Scramble
It’s only been a matter of hours since Conan O’B rien announced that he will depart network television for TBS , and already, the network has posted a promo on their website celebrating their latest acquisition. The same way that NBC speedily transformed Jay Leno’s primetime ads (you know, the ones with the vintage blue convertible speeding down PCH ? ) into Jay Leno’s Tonight Show 2.0 commercials, TBS has hastily doctored Conan’s fan art to celebrate the impending Conan era. Your head is probably still spinning from today’s announcement that Conan O’B rien will topline a late night talk show on TBS in November, which is shocking because a) Conan and Fox had been dancing the negotiation tango for months and b) Conan O’B rien, former Tonight Show host, is going to TBS . The Time Warner-owned cable channel gave Conan an 11:00 PM position in front of Lopez Tonight (George Lopez has already dubbed the power comedy block “LO-CO”), but what was in the package deal that made it an offer he could not refuse? Well, he is very funny. But otherwise, this seems peculiar. Starting in November the jilted carrot top will do a Monday-Thursday 11pm laffer/talker on TBS, pushing George Lopez’s little program to midnight. Updated More

Who says the entertainment industry can’t surprise you? In a move that can only be described as “shocking” (though “damnnnn” would also suffice), Conan O’B rien announced moments ago that he’ll head to cable network TBS to host a brand new late night show starting in November. Said Coco: “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”

Surprising news out of the world of television this afternoon: Conan O’Brien is heading to TBS. Said the comedian in a statement: “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.” The untitled talk show will debut in November. It will air Monday through Thursday and be followed by George Lopez’s Lopez Tonight , which has averaged over 1.2 million viewers during its first season. Ever since NBC totally screwed over Conan in January, insiders have assumed he’d end up on Fox. Tweeted the comic: The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I’ll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show. This move ought to raise the profile of TBS, but the question remains: Will viewers shift to TBS along with O’Brien?
