Police say Joynes was a music teacher at New Hampshire Estates Elementary in Silver Spring. Joynes remains at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $1 million bail. The investigation is on-going at this time. Yet another teacher put on blast for livin’ the trife-life behind closed doors. SMH

Had a student teacher not intervened, that’s exactly what would have happened at one NY school, but strangely enough it already happened just last month in Georgia . Via NY1 reports : It was quite a homework assignment that a fourth grade teacher at P.S. 59 wanted to give her students last Thursday. It consisted of a few math problems, but Aziza Harding, the student teacher who was asked to photocopy the worksheet, couldn’t believe a couple of the questions. “I’m just like, ‘Wow, this is really inappropriate,’” she said. Question 1 on the sheet, entitled “Slavery Word Problems Homework”, was written as a matter-of-fact subtraction problem. It asked: “In a slave ship, there can be 3,799 slaves. One day, the slaves took over the ship. 1,897 are dead. How many slaves are alive?” The second question had multiple parts multiplication and addition. It said: “One slave got whipped five times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month (31 days)? Another slave got whipped nine times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month? How many times did the two slaves get whipped together in one month?” “It shouldn’t be a homework assignment, and I did not want to make copies of this,” Harding said. The teacher who had told Harding to copy the assignment was in a meeting, so Harding made the decision on her own to photocopy another worksheet instead. She left the teacher a note explaining that she wasn’t comfortable with the first assignment and hoped to talk. Then, Harding turned to Charlton McIlwain, one of her professors at NYU, where she is a graduate student. “My first thought was, I don’t believe it,” McIlwain said. McIlwain contacted NY1, and we eventually showed the worksheet to the principal of P.S. 59. She later wrote to us, saying, “I am appalled by this.” But what’s perhaps even more shocking: it turns out this particular worksheet has already gone home, with another fourth-grade class, in January, and the questions had been written by students in that class, as part of their instruction on slavery. “You’re ostensibly teaching or trying to teach history or call attention to a particular historical moment, yet there’s no explanation, there’s no education, there’s no teaching going on,” McIlwain said. “And so, for someone who is probably, at nine years of age, has maybe heard of slavery but probably doesn’t know what it is really like, their first, perhaps, and most lasting impression about this historical event comes in a very abstracted, nonchalant type of thing that they have no real sense of connection to.” The Department of Education released a statement, saying, “This is obviously unacceptable and we will take appropriate disciplinary action against these teachers. The Chancellor spoke to the principal, and she has already taken steps to ensure this does not happen again.” The teacher who created the assignment has been at P.S. 59 for seven years. The teacher who asked Harding to photocopy the worksheet for her students has been teaching in city schools for five years, but is new to P.S. 59. The principal said she’ll be meeting with families and all staff members will undergo related training. The whistleblowing student teacher said she hopes that P.S. 59 students will get help understanding why slavery is a much more serious issue than these simple math problems. “Instead of these kids being desensitized to this type of violence, that they have a general idea that, ‘Wow, this was a terrible thing that happened to a group of people for over 300 years,’” Harding said. After seeing NY1′s story, State Senator Simcha Felder, who is the chairman of the New York City Education Sub-Committee, emailed a statement that read, “While the city, state and unions are busy haggling over teacher evaluations, New York City’s students are being subjected to reprehensible and irresponsible educational materials. I am calling for the immediate removal of these two teachers.” Felder also commended the student teacher for coming forward. SMH… What were they thinking? This is a damned shame. Adam Lanza inspired an Alabama teen to plot out a hate crime against his black classmates and a faculty member. Fortunately he was caught in time. Via WTVM reports : Police say 17-year-old Derek Shrout is a self-proclaimed white su******ist who wanted to commit hate crimes at Russell County high school with homemade explosives. Had his book of plans not been carelessly left where a teacher could find it, the sheriff says no one may have discovered the plot until it was too late. “The journal contained several plans that looked like potential terrorist attacks, and attacks of violence and danger on the school. And in particular, there were six students specifically named, and one teacher,” said Russell County sheriff, Heath Taylor. After the teacher who found his journal notified authorities, police searched his home and found dozens of tobacco containers filled with shrapnel and holes drilled for fuses. Investigators say Shrout was a step away from turning them into live grenades. “These bombs are potential; they’re not complete. So we don’t want to indicate that he was ready to do something. It could have been a day later, potentially,” said Taylor. Police say they don’t believe his parents had any idea this was happening. Newsleader Nine contacted Shrout’s mother at his Fort Mitchell home but she did not want to make a statement. When Shrout was interrogated by authorities, his explanation to them was that he had written a work of fiction and he never meant to carry out the plans in real life. The sheriff disagrees. “It was obvious that he had put a lot of thought into this. It was obvious to us that there was more than just writing a story in a journal and it being fictitious,” said Taylor. Officials say the earliest entries in the journal were written three days after the massacre in Sandy Hook, Connecticut. They believe Shrout learned to make the explosives through internet research. Shrout is currently in the Russell County Jail, charged as an adult. He will be in court Monday to face a felony charge of attempted assault.

Instead, Courtni wrote a poem about Adam Lanza and what she saw regarding his drive to a mass murder in a children’s classroom. She didn’t write about flowers and rainbows. She wrote, “They want to hold me back……I understand the killings in Connecticut. I know why he pulled the trigger…. society won’t take the blame. We’re full of a society of haters and blamers” What some might see as a child’s way of speaking out and dealing with such a tragedy, others are seeing as part of a zero tolerance approach to violence within Courtni Webb’s San Francisco high school. Webb didn’t turn the poem in as her assignment; it was something she had written for herself. However, the teacher discovered it in her personal notebook and turned it over to the principal. Webb’s mother thinks the school district is overreacting. For now, she is suspended until further notice. According to TMZ, the 34-year-old wig lover filed an emergency motion in Georgia last week to prevent them from publicly discussing their ongoing court battles over visitation rights of their grandchildren. Kim claims that her mother and father have trashed her to the press with ‘vicious lies’ and they’re planning on signing a $50,000 tell-all book deal. The judge has yet to rule, but the reality star’s breaking point with her folks evidently occurred last year during her televised wedding to NFL player Kroy Biermann. Karen claimed that she was completely cut off from her famous daughter’s family after using an indoor bathroom rather than a porta-potty, and promptly escorted off the premises by security. Those lavish nuptials are proving to be quite a headache for Miss Zolciak this week as her wedding planner Colin Cowie has also sued her for alleged unpaid fees and valet parking services. Back in October, Kim even had her two daughters – Ariana, 11, and Brielle, 15 – submit sworn affidavits declaring they do not want to be forced to spend time with their grandmother. ‘We both love our grandparents, but due to their actions at the wedding of [Kim and Kroy]…we have grown apart,’ the statement read according to TMZ. The boys teacher gave him a ‘time out’ and forgot all about him. His parents had no idea what happened until their son didn’t come home after school…SMH. According to The Houston Chronicle , the teacher hasn’t lost her job…yet: A kindergarten teacher locked a 5-year-old boy in a small, dark room alone at the end of a school day then forgot the child there for over an hour, according to a southwestern Idaho father. School officials said Friday they were investigating after hearing from James Cagle, who says that when his wife found their son the boy was crying and had urinated on himself. “He was scared,” Cagle told Boise television station KTVB. “You know just think about that,” he added. “A 5-year-old boy.” Cagle said he and his wife panicked when their son didn’t come home from his morning kindergarten class Wednesday. About 45 minutes after he was supposed to be home, they headed to Washington Elementary School to look for him. Cagle said his wife and a school secretary found the boy crying and afraid in the small room in the dark, where he had apparently been for around an hour and a half after the teacher put him there for misbehaving. “I know that if I locked my child in a room long enough for him to urinate on himself, I’d be going to jail or child protective services would dang sure be here taking him out of my house that night,” Cagle said. School officials dispute that the room was locked, saying the teacher would not have had a key. Assistant District Superintendent Monica White also noted that the door to the room has a large window, which allows light in from the hallway. Still, officials acknowledge that the discipline was inappropriate. The teacher “should not have done that,” said District Superintendent Tim Rosandick. “That’s not a preferred practice,” Rosandick added. “That is not what we would have wanted her to do.” This is a damn shame! Last week, he revealed that he had finally graduated from high school, with the help of his teacher Kim Janzen. The poor girl took her teacher seriously… In a ‘what the hell was she thinking’ moment, 16-year-old high school student Samantha Pawlucy showed up to school on ‘dress down Friday’ in jeans and a t-shirt…but Samantha’s pink shirt drew extra attention because she was wearing a Robney/Lyan tee. According to NBC News… “The teacher told me to get out of the classroom, I said no,” Samantha said. “She told me to take off my shirt and said that she has another one if I need one. And then the teacher asked me… ‘Are your parents Republican?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ She said that’s like her wearing a KKK shirt.” Samantha was so embarrassed by the public criticism in front of her classmates that she told her parents she didn’t want to return to school. “I didn’t know what to think, I didn’t think it was right at all.” They requested a meeting with the principal and the teacher. The teacher apologized to Samantha and her parents saying that the statement was meant as a joke. “It was funny to her, but I was really embarrassed,” Samantha said. “If it was a joke between two adults, I can take a joke like that but (my daughter) didn’t know how to take it. She doesn’t understand, she actually thinks she did something wrong,” her father, Richard Pawlucy, said. “I can just picture her sitting there, feeling ashamed for just wearing a T-shirt,” said her mother, Christine Pawlucy. “That someone could spin that and throw it back on a 16-year-old child and make her feel so terrible.” A spokesperson for the Philadelphia School District told NBCPhiladelphia.com that the teacher was transferred to another classroom as the district investigates the incident.
