Director has wanted to bring story of Tuskegee Airmen to big screen for nearly 25 years. By Kevin P. Sullivan Terrence Howard Photo: MTV News George Lucas made a name for himself in the late ’70s and ’80s with “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones,” but for nearly 25 years, the director tried to bring one story to the big screen, a movie he wasn’t able to make until now. After decades in development, “Red Tails,” Lucas’ tale of the Tuskegee Airmen, will finally hit theaters. The story of Lucas’ battle to get “Red Tails” in front of the camera only added to the significance of the story for many of the cast and crew. Terrence Howard plays Col. A.J. Bullard, one of the commanders of the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first African-American air regimen. The actor told MTV News that Lucas’ passion set the tone for the entire project. “Well, he has complete control of the Force. As far as I understand it, he invented the Force,” Howard said. “It’s quite a moving inertia associated with it. You believe in him, and when he says something, he follows it all the way through.” According to Howard, having such a strong backing force changed the way the actors approached the film and their roles. “It gives us a great deal of encouragement walking into the roles,” he said. “We know that we’re going to be 100 percent supported.” Like any Lucas project, “Red Tails” comes with the technical wizardry that made the man a legend. “When you look at the final project and you look at these fight scenarios, you can’t believe that it’s not real,” Howard said. “It looks tangible, and it’s wonderful to be able to say ‘George Lucas manned this, created this vessel that Anthony Hemingway was able to direct.’ We become moving parts of this incredible armada.” Do you plan to see ‘Red Tails’ in theaters? On Friday January 20, 2012 George Luca’s passion project, Red Tails , will finally be in theaters. After years of lobbying in Hollywood to get a feature film made about the Tuskegee Airmen, the director and producer financed the project with his own money. Where The Red Tails Worked And Played Overseas Tapping director Anthony Hemingway (“The Wire”, “OZ”, “The Corner”) to execute his vision, an all-star cast of talent was assembled to tell the story of the fighting 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps that fought in WWII. Given that Lucas is known by most for his epic Star Wars franchise, which was inspired in many ways by the fighting in World War II, it only seemed right to ask the cast of Red Tails if their new movie qualified to be the Black Star Wars. Wait, HE’S suing?!?! The ex-McDonald’s cook cleared after whacking two unruly female customers with a metal pole makes no apologies for the wild confrontation — and plans to sue the fast-food giant. Rayon McIntosh, 31, who served 11 years in prison for manslaughter, says he feared for his life when the two menacing women lunged over the counter of the West Village eatery on Oct. 13. “My life was in danger,” McIntosh told the Daily News. “Females do murder men. . . . I displayed a lot of patience. I was in fear for my life.” Cell phone video of the ugly smackdown at the W. Third St. franchise shows McIntosh striking the women with a 3-foot steel pole, fracturing one woman’s skull. McIntosh was arrested on felony assault charges and tossed in a Rikers Island jail for seven weeks. A Manhattan grand jury refused to indict him, forcing prosecutors to drop the charges and release him Friday night. “I just feel elated. I wasn’t out there looking for trouble,” McIntosh said in the interview at his girlfriend’s Queens apartment. McIntosh says he plans on making it rain after he gets this gwap from the red-wigged clown for endangering his life… He said he blames McDonald’s for putting him in the perilous position, explaining that staffers had warned the franchise owner of fights, drunken customers and even guns inside the eatery. In March, a 26-year-old gay man was beaten outside the McDonald’s by two men screaming homophobic slurs. “I do plan on bringing a civil suit against McDonald’s for putting me in danger,” McIntosh said. “If a security guard would have been there, this wouldn’t have happened.” What do you think? As a prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Meth has released four solo albums, two with Redman and a number of Clan-related projects. As an actor, he’s starred in major films like “Belly” and “Cop Land,” as well as the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Wire.” Look for Meth to take his acting to another level in the next few months. First, in December he will star alongside Jonah Hill in “The Sitter.” While on set with the “Superbad” actor, Tical learned a lesson in improv. “I didn’t know that they did these long-ass rants, to the point where, like, you’re waiting to get your line in, and just when you’re about to say your line — cut! — ran out of film,” he said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” last week. “I applaud people that can think that quick on their feet. Now I watch a Will Ferrell movie, I can see it now. I can see what he’s doin’.” At the top of 2012, Meth will transition into more of a dramatic role as a Tuskegee pilot in the World War II drama “Red Tails.” In preparing for the role, the rapper learned a lot about the historical significance of the African-American military aviators who had to conquer a racially segregated armed forces. “I met some of the actual pilots, and they would sit there telling us the stories,” he said. Meth — who co-stars with Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and Tristan Wilds in the George Lucas-produced, Anthony Hemingway-directed film — also spoke on the physical training he had to endure in preparation for the film. According to the rapper, it was a lot like boot camp, but also a valuable bonding experience. “By the time I was done with the movie, I can actually call the majority of those dudes on the set friends,” he said.
