For Discussion: Black Ebola Patient Dies, Whites Are Cured — Did The Hospital Do All They Could?

Is the care of Black Ebola patients secondary? Family And Friends Question Deceased Ebola Patient’s Care The Texas Ebola patient has succumbed to the effects of the deadly disease . However, we already know of multiple cases of White Americans infected with Ebola who have made recoveries from their seemingly deadly condition. Is it any coincidence that the man of African heritage didn’t receive all the experimental treatments and emergency care that others in his same condition have been treated to since this epidemic surfaced? Via LA Times : Family and friends of the first person to die of Ebola in the United States condemned the medical care that Thomas Eric Duncan received and called for a full examination of the case. Duncan, 42, who was from Liberia, died Wednesday in Dallas after being infected with Ebola in Africa. He had been in isolation, being treated with an experimental drug, since Sept. 28. Hours after Duncan’s death was announced, his fiancee, Louise Troh, called for an examination of how Duncan was treated. “I trust a thorough examination will take place regarding all aspects of his care,” she said in a statement. Duncan, who had left Liberia Sept. 19, was treated at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital with the experimental antiviral drug brincidofovir. However, he did not receive any transfusion of blood from an Ebola patient who had recovered. That treatment is considered experimental and was used on another American who has since recovered. There also are questions about how Duncan was treated when he first arrived at the hospital Sept. 25, complaining of symptoms and telling personnel that he had traveled from West Africa. The travel information should have been a warning sign, officials have said. Duncan was released with antibiotics. He was rushed back to the hospital three days later with more severe symptoms. Troh’s daughter, Youngor Jallah, condemned the hospital’s actions. “The hospital didn’t treat him right,” Jallah said. “That’s what everybody thinks,” added Aaron Yah, the father of four children with Jallah. But what it really all boils down to — according to Duncan’s family and lawyer — is the fact that he was Black and uninsured…thus not really “worthy” of the hospital’s time and attention. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, raised questions over whether Duncan was initially released from a Dallas hospital because of his race and lack of health insurance. “The real elephant in the room is, the man was black, he had no insurance, and therefore he was basically turned away,” Price told the Los Angeles Times. When asked how he knew Duncan didn’t have insurance, Price said, “If he had pulled out an insurance card, he wouldn’t have had a problem. I’m willing to stake my life on the fact he didn’t have insurance. He’s from Liberia!” Price called Texas Health Presbyterian a “boutique” hospital that doesn’t normally serve indigent patients. Price added: “I make the claim, we know he didn’t have insurance, and he was black. They did what they traditionally do: They gave him some pills and sent him on his way, basically ignoring all the CDC protocols. “If you’re of color and present without insurance — they’re not going to call it ‘dumping,’ but in the final analysis, that’s basically what they did,” he said. A hospital spokesman responded: “Mr. Duncan was treated the way any other patient would have been treated, regardless of nationality or ability to pay for care. We have a long history of treating a multicultural community in this area.” Hey, maybe the hospital would have ignored anyone who came in very obviously ill. But the situation does raise a few red flags. What do you think? Did their lack of value of Black life and the uninsured move the hospital to disregard Duncan’s symptoms early on — and possibly lead to his death?

Ho Sit Down: Republican Leader Rick Santorum Slams Muslims For Being Terrorists “You Don’t See Baptists Going On Jihad”

Hi hater! Rick Santorum Slams Muslims For Being Violent During his speech on Friday at the Values Voter Summit, former Senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum claimed that “the West” was in an “existential fight” against the forces of “radical Islam.” Via Raw Story reports: Unlike fellow Values Voter Summit speaker Michele Bachmann (R) — who urged President Barack Obama to go to war with all of Islam — Santorum limited his criticism to those Muslims who were rightly hesitant about modernity. Still, he noted, there is “a fundamental foundational problem in Islam of embracing issues of freedom of conscience and religious persecution.” “Christendom [once] expanded by the sword, that doesn’t happen anymore,” he continued, but “you don’t have any Baptist ministers going on jihad.” “The Western world,” Santorum said, “has come to terms with religious liberty, freedom of conscience, and that persuasion is the way to spread the faith.” But the president and those who believe that not all Muslims are fundamentalists were not Santorum’s only targets. He also called out Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) in all but name, saying. that “clearly, there are people out there who are trying to advocate for us to take a more limited view of what our role should be internationally, both from the standpoint of our engagement in foreign policy as well as our military strength.” However, he added, “there is a difference between limited government and small government. I believe in limited government. I believe in small government in some areas but I don’t believe in small government in every area. There are some areas the government needs to be big and robust and one of them is defense.” Santorum finished fourth in the Values Voter Summit presidential straw poll, behind Texas Senator Ted Cruz, neurosurgeon and Fox regular Ben Carson, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Kendall Jenner: Nude on Instagram! (Again!)

At this point, Kendall Jenner nude photos are nothing new, but yesterday, the selfie queen and up-and-coming runway model posted a pic that might be her most revealing to date. Sure, Kendall is standing behind a curtain in the shot, but the intimate Instagram snap still doesn’t leave much to the imagination. Kendall didn’t post a caption for the photo, so we don’t know what inspired her to take her phone into the shower with her, but maybe it was a response to the recent  Photoshopped, fat-shaming tabloid cover that depicted Kendall sporting some fake cellulite. If so, it’s a brilliant PR strategy. Rather than hitting the roof and calling out the editors of Famous magazine (whatever that is) as the lying liars they are, she simply posted a tasteful shot of what she really looks like on her IG page. Sure, she’s only 18, but Kendall is the daughter of one of the most media-savvy momagers in history, so we wouldn’t put such a slick response past her. Between the cellulite scandal and the reports that Kendall is being bullied by other models , there’s no better time for her to subtly remind the world that she’s got enough clout to stop the Internet dead in its tracks with one grainy selfie. 34 Wildly Inappropriate Photos of Kendall Jenner 1. Game of Thrones: Which Supposedly Dead Character Will Return in Season 5?

If you haven’t seen the Game of Thrones season 4 finale , then be warned – spoilers lie ahead. Actually, even if you’re all caught up there are spoilers ahead, because based on what GoT actor Charles Dance revealed in an interview today, the fifth season may contain some surprises that none of us saw coming: 9 Shocking Game of Thrones Deaths 1. Viserys Gets Crowned Viserys was up there with King Joffrey in terms of douchebags we loved to hate. Even so, his death by molten gold is tough to watch. Dance plays ruthless badass and perennial Worst Dad Ever candidate Tywin Lannister on the series. He went out in shameful style at the end of last season – getting crossbowed to death by his least favorite son, Tyrion, while sitting on the toilet. While fans were to happy to see the vicious Tywin finally get what was coming to him, Dance says we can expect to see more of his character in season five: “I’m not completely missing out on the new series,” Dance told MTV recently. “More than that I’m not going to say…You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister is all I’ll say.” Since Tywin is deinitively killed by Tyrion in George R.R. Martin’s books, Dance’s revelation means one of two things: Either, Tywin will return in flashback form (the most likely explanation), or showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have decided to stray from their source material. It wouldn’t be the first time they did so – Weiss and Benioff’s decision not to have Catelyn Stark return as Lady Stoneheart angered plenty of GoT diehards – but having Tywin somehow return to the land of the living would certainly constitute the most major plot change they’ve made so far. Speaking of things that have pissed off fans, in other GoT news: Bran Stark and Hodor will not appear on the show next season. Of course, all we have to say about that is: “Hodor.” So watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic to get some Bran in your diet, because you won’t be receiving any new updates on the psychic Stark until 2016 at the earliest.  Game of Thrones Characters In Real Life 1. Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen Clarke plays Daenerys Targaryen on the hit series Game of Thrones. The show’s fourth season debuts April sixth.
