Chappelle is set to debut on Broadway via a limited run engagement beginning in July. Page Six reports : The iconoclast comic, actor and famed Rick James/Prince impersonator is set to make his Broadway debut with one of those fancy “limited engagements” from July 9 to 13 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. He will arrive on the Great White Way with plenty of live performance chops. In addition to decades of work on the standup club circuit, he’s cranked out a series of acclaimed live-to-tape Netflix specials: “The Art of Spin,” “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” “Equanimity” and “The Bird Revelations.” “Equanimity” and his guest host turn on “Saturday Night Live” scored him Emmy Awards in 2018 and 2017, respectively. Source: Icon Sports Wire / Getty You know the saying, “it’s only Twitter?” Tell that to the Rockets. Many of the team’s 2.8 million Twitter followers learned that the Rocket’s official twitter account was suspended on Monday along with several college football teams due to copyright issues. “Our Twitter account has been temporarily suspended due to a few prior social media posts with copyrighted music,” the Rockets said in a statement. “We are working to correct the issue now.” Joining the Rockets in the Twitter takedown were the Iowa State football account, the Iowa football and gymnastics account, the Auburn football account and Rutgers football. This isn’t the first time big name Twitter accounts were taken down over music copyright issues. The University of Texas’ account was temporarily suspended in 2018 but was restored later on the same day it was initially suspended. Back in 2015 during the first round of the NBA Playoffs, the team dismissed their digital communications manager after he sent a tweet to the Dallas Mavericks account from the Rockets official account saying, “Shhhhh. Just close your eyes. It will all be over soon.” with an emoji of a pistol pointed at a horse’s head. Source: Johnny Louis / Getty Former “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” Couple Back In Court Over Toddler Bonnie Bella Reality star Stevie J says he’s concerned for his youngest daughter’s safety and has asked a judge to award him full custody of the girl while accusing his former co-star and lover Joseline Hernandez of purposely cutting him out of their daughter’s life. The former Bad Boy producer filed a flurry of court documents earlier this week alleging that Hernandez committed “parental alienation” after she hightailed it to Miami to shack up with another guy. Jordan said his daughter’s mother won’t let him visit the now three year old, speak to her on the phone or have a say in her day to day upbringing – which are all violations of their paternity agreement. Jordan said that Hernandez has blocked him from doing things like participating in the little girl’s academic life and she refuses to communicate with him about the girl’s development – even their Miami address, his court filing – which was obtained by BOSSIP – states. Interestingly, Jordan also claimed that he fears for Bonnie’s safety and well being, and has asked the judge to appoint a “guardian ad litem” whose job is to represent Bonnie Bella’s best interests and eventually report their findings to the judge. He says he is more financially and mentally stable to care for the little girl, and has a safe and loving home to raise Bonnie in with new wife, Faith Evans, his adult children and extended family, according to court documents. Source: David Becker / Getty Bonnie Bella was born in December 2016 amid a nasty breakup between her parents that devolved into an acrimonious paternity battle. Each side accused the other in family court of drug abuse, cheating and violence. But last year, both Hernandez and Jordan agreed to Hernandez having primary physical custody of Bonnie, with Jordan getting weekend visitation and a say on things like her schooling, healthcare, religion and extracurricular activities, court documents say. The “Leave It To Stevie” star said that Bonnie and his relationship has ultimately suffered because of Hernandez’s actions, and he wants a judge to punish her. He also wants Hernandez to pay child support to him if the judge awards him primary custody. We’ve reached out to both Hernandez and Jordan’s lawyers for comment. A judge has yet to rule on Jordan’s request.
Source: Robert Alexander / Getty Texas Cop Fired For Killing Unarmed Black Man While we’re glad that this cop is facing a real punishment for taking the life of a Black man, we can’t help be wish this was the rule and not the exception. According to NYPost , an Arlington, Texas police officer, Bau Tran, was fired and charged with the criminally negligent homicide of 24-year-old O’Shae Terry last September. Texas isn’t exactly a place where police are held to a standard of accountability when it comes to violence against people, but especially people of color. Tran shot Terry on Sept. 1 after another officer pulled the Forest Hill resident over on a registration violation. After talking for several minutes, body camera footage shows Tran grabbing the passenger-side window of the SUV Terry was driving as it begins to roll up. The officer stepped on to the vehicle’s running board as it started to move, pointed his gun into the SUV and fired multiple shots. Terry later died at a hospital. Tran was initially placed on restrictive duty, but then placed on leave after the grand jury indicted that a$$. Good riddance. Take some of your bacon-scented buddies with you.
N ew York City rush hour traffic was literally brought to a halt Monday morning ahead of administrative trial for the police officer who killed Eric Garner nearly five years ago. NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo , who has not only avoided being arrested for the flagrant killing caught on video but also managed to secure a lucrative salary boost in the interim, could be fired if found guilty. In anticipation of the ruling, protesters took to a major highway in Manhattan to bring attention to something they say should have been done immediately following the death caused by the use of a chokehold that the NYPD bans its officers from using. A small handful of activists unfurled a banner in the middle of the busy southbound lanes of the FDR Drive to show the words reading “ERIC GARNER” followed by the declarative hashtag “#FIRE PANTALEO.” #EricGarner Black life matters protesters stoping traffic on the FDR highway, standing up against what they are calling police injustice. pic.twitter.com/1HiMhzmDNc — Marvin Hoffman (@theeye74) May 13, 2019 The vantage point from a nearby highrise building showed the extent of the disruption in traffic. However, there were not any immediate reports of angry drivers, which could be an indication that even the typically temperamental motorists in the city’s five boroughs were sympathetic to what under normal circumstances would have been considered murder. However, according to the New York Times, even though the trial was open to the public, its verdict may not be made public immediately. The decision “will be sent to the police commissioner, James P. O’Neill, who has the authority to uphold, modify or even vacate the ruling,” the Times reported . Issues from the courtroom: not enough seats for all media, we are seated in the very back of the courtroom (hearing aides on, if prescribed) and if you leave don't expect to get your seat back. #danelpantaleo #ericgarner — Christina Carrega (@ChrisCarrega) May 13, 2019 Family members of past victims of police brutality by the NYPD were at the courtroom to offer support for Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, according to a tweet from a local activist. Wow. Power & solidarity. These fams whose loved ones were killed by NYPD were at 1PP early this morn to make sure they get into courtroom for the Pantaleo trial to support #EricGarner mom & fam: aunt of #AkaiGurley & moms of #RamarleyGraham #MohamedBah #AnthonyBaez #FirePantaleo pic.twitter.com/pVTXLJZaws — Joo-Hyun Kang (@JooHyun_Kang) May 13, 2019 Pantaleo’s trial was coming about a month after the NYPD determined that Garner was not killed by a chokehold. That questionable decision could provide a hint at what to expect from Pantaleo’s trial. Garner was approached by undercover NYPD officers on July 17, 2014, for the alleged offense of selling untaxed loose cigarettes. When officers failed at handcuffing him for the nonviolent misdemeanor, Pantaleo was caught on video with his arms wrapped tightly around Garner’s neck from behind. The chokehold ultimately killed Garner. The entire deadly episode was captured on cellphone video and filmed by a bystander. Garner’s final words “I can’t breathe” — became a rallying call for social justice advocates who saw his death as a murder. The New York Police Department (NYPD) only began disciplinary proceedings against Officer Daniel Pantaleo in June of 2018. A grand jury decided not to indict Pantaleo and the Department of Justice declined to bring a civil rights case against him.
