Phone Records, Paramedics, Michael Jackson Aide Paint Unflattering Picture of Dr. Conrad Murray

Dr. Conrad Murray didn’t exactly rush to call 911 after he found Michael Jackson lifeless, according to paramedics … and the doctor’s phone records. Murray may try to argue Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of Propofol in a brief window during which the doc went to the bathroom. When he came back, the defense theory goes, Murray called 911 right away. But phone company employees told a different story in court today . The phone company says that in the hours surrounding the revelation that Michael was lifeless in bed, Murray was texting and calling lots of people. Not on his list? 911. Records show Dr. Murray was sending and receiving multiple texts. Two texts were sent by Murray to someone in Texas at 12:03 and 12:04 p.m. It’s unclear if the texts pertained to the women in Murray’s office who went to a storage facility to retrieve boxes, but you have to wonder. The death timeline dispute has permeated for months, with some law enforcement sources believing MJ was injected as early as 10:50 a.m. Murray also sent data at 12:15, 12:18 and 12:53 p.m. on June 25, 2009, when the King of Pop passed away of acute Propofol intoxication. The singer’s personal physician also called a number of people, including his girlfriend, Nicole Alvarez, but the only record shows 1:08 p.m. This is inconsistent with earlier claims that he talked with Alvarez around noon and when he realized MJ was in distress, dropped the phone. Meanwhile, a paramedic testified today that Dr. Conrad Murray denied giving Michael Jackson drugs as the singer lay lifeless in his bedroom. Martin Blount said when he walked into MJ’s room Murray was sweating profusely. Murray told EMTs he waited only one minute to call 911. Another paramedic testified that he believed Murray waited between 20 minutes to an hour to call 911. The call was placed at 12:21 p.m. Then there’s this. Alberto Alvarez (no relation to Nicole), a bodyguard who says he was MJ’s Director of Logistics, said Murray removed bottles from MJ’s room. Along with an IV bag with a milky-white substance, believed to be Propofol, Murray told Alvarez to remove certain bottles before calling 911. Alvarez says he walked into MJ’s bedroom at 12:17 p.m. he saw Michael laying motionless. Murray told him Michael had “an allergic reaction.” He ordered him to collect a bag of bottles and put them in a bag. Alvarez says Murray “instructed me to remove the IV bag from the IV stand.” Alvarez says there was a second IV bag – which contained saline. Murray told him to leave it. He also said that Michael’s kids watched him die . Stay tuned for more as this develops .

Texas Man Declared Innocent After Being Locked Up For 30 Years For A Crime He Didn’t Commit

This is deep: A Texas man declared innocent Tuesday after 30 years in prison could have cut short his prison stint twice and made parole — if only he would admit he was a sex offender. But Cornelius Dupree Jr. refused to do so, doggedly maintaining his innocence in a 1979 rape and robbery, in the process serving more time for a crime he didn’t commit than any other Texas inmate exonerated by DNA evidence. “Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it,” Dupree, 51, said Tuesday, minutes after a Dallas judge overturned his conviction. Nationally, only two others exonerated by DNA evidence spent more time in prison, according to the Innocence Project, a New York legal center that specializes in wrongful conviction cases and represented Dupree. James Bain was wrongly imprisoned for 35 years in Florida, and Lawrence McKinney spent more than 31 years in a Tennessee prison. Dupree was sentenced to 75 years in prison in 1980 for the rape and robbery of a 26-year-old Dallas woman a year earlier. He was released in July on mandatory supervision, and lived under house arrest until October. About a week after his release, DNA test results came back proving his innocence in the sexual assault. A day after his release, Dupree married his fiancee, Selma. The couple met two decades ago while he was in prison. His exoneration hearing was delayed until Tuesday while authorities retested the DNA and made sure it was a match to the victim. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins supported Dupree’s innocence claim. Looking fit and trim in a dark suit, Dupree stood through most of the short hearing, until state district Judge Don Adams told him, “You’re free to go.” One of Dupree’s lawyers, Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck, called it “a glorious day.” “It’s a joy to be free again,” Dupree said. This latest wait was nothing for Dupree, who was up for parole as recently as 2004. He was set to be released and thought he was going home, until he learned he first would have to attend a sex offender treatment program. Those in the program had to go through what is known as the “four R’s.” They are recognition, remorse, restitution and resolution, said Jim Shoemaker, who served two years with Dupree in the Boyd Unit south of Dallas. “He couldn’t get past the first part,” said Shoemaker, who drove up from Houston to attend Dupree’s hearing. Shoemaker said he spent years talking to Dupree in the prison recreation yard, and always believed his innocence. “I got a lot of flak from the guys on the block,” Shoemaker said. “But I always believed him. He has a quiet, peaceful demeanor.” Under Texas compensation laws for the wrongly imprisoned, Dupree is eligible for $80,000 for each year he was behind bars, plus a lifetime annuity. He could receive $2.4 million in a lump sum that is not subject to federal income tax. The compensation law, the nation’s most generous, was passed in 2009 by the Texas Legislature after dozens of wrongly convicted men were released from prison. Texas has freed 41 wrongly convicted inmates through DNA since 2001 — more than any other state. Dallas County’s record of DNA exonerations — Dupree is No. 21 — is unmatched nationally because the county crime lab maintains biological evidence even decades after a conviction, leaving samples available to test. In addition, Watkins, the DA, has cooperated with innocence groups in reviewing hundreds of requests by inmates for DNA testing. Watkins, the first black district attorney in Texas history, has also pointed to what he calls “a convict-at-all-costs mentality” that he says permeated his office before he arrived in 2007. At least a dozen other exonerated former inmates from the Dallas area who collectively served more than 100 years in prison upheld a local tradition by attending the hearing and welcoming the newest member of their unfortunate fraternity. One of them, James Giles, presented Dupree with a $100 bill as a way to get his life restarted. F*ck a 100 dollar bill!!! They need to give that man some real money for doing all that time for NOTHING!! Source

‘True Grit’ Stars Talk Fave Westerns At Brown-Carpet NYC Premiere

Co-stars Hailee Steinfeld and Barry Pepper reveal their gun-slinging genre favorites to MTV News. By Tom DiChiara Hailee Steinfeld Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage If the 25-degree temperatures, dirt-brown carpet (in lieu of a red one) and lack of Golden Globes nominations dampened spirits at Tuesday night’s “True Grit” premiere at New York’s famed Ziegfeld Theatre, it sure didn’t show. Taking a lesson from the film’s title, stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Barry Pepper and Hailee Steinfeld — as well as a bevy of celebrities, including “Entourage” star Adrian Grenier, musician John Legend and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — showed true grit in braving the frigid temps to walk the unconventionally colored carpet. (Giuliani was greeted by chants of “Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!”) And the “True Grit” posse chatted jovially with reporters about the film, which marks a return to the Western genre for “No Country for Old Men” directors Joel and Ethan Coen, and tells of a U.S. Marshal (Bridges) and Texas Ranger (Damon) helping a young girl (Steinfeld) track down her father’s killer (Brolin). When asked what sets “True Grit,” which hits theaters December 22, apart from the rest of the Western pack, Pepper had a theory. “So many of them have so many anachronisms that kind of ruin it for me and pull me out of the period, whereas the Coen brothers are so authentic and they have such a precise vision,” he said. “And the dialogue [in ‘True Grit’] is extraordinary, which is plucked straight from the source of Charles Portis’ novel. So, yeah, this one’s a very special one for me.” As for Pepper’s favorite Western of all time, the actor didn’t have to think twice before responding: “I’d say ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.’ It came out in 1966 and it raised the bar for the Western genre beyond belief.” Singer Legend, en route to what he said was his first trip to a movie theater in months, had a bit more trouble pinpointing his list-topping Western. “Oh, I don’t know — let me think about that,” the “Ordinary People” singer said, eventually revealing that he’s a big fan of “that one with Morgan Freeman,” a.k.a. “Unforgiven.” Meanwhile, Steinfeld, the 14-year-old who’s earning raves for her feature-film debut in “True Grit,” admitted that she hadn’t seen many Westerns before signing on for the movie. “Maybe I can get away with ‘True Grit’?” she laughed. We’ll let it slide. Check out everything we’ve got on “True Grit.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
