Occasionally, a movie is more interesting for where it doesn’t go than for where it does. Oren Moverman’s Rampart , starring Woody Harrelson as a disgraced (and obviously dirty) LAPD cop, is one of those pictures. It’s more of a character study than a conventionally shaped drama — I was taken aback when the end credits started rolling, momentarily left with that “Is that all there is?” feeling. But the more I thought about it, the more it seemed that the movie ended in just the right place, taking us as far as we can go with this loose-cannon cop before he’s left to face his own isolation. Once we, the audience, part ways with him, he’s truly on his own.
Steve Chabot , a Republican Congressman from Ohio, recently had Police seize Private Citizen’s personal video cameras in an attempt to prevent “an embarrassing You Tube moment” . (The Police claim it was to protect the I.D. of the constituents according to Info Wars .) Charlie Sheen, who was fired from Two and a Half Men in March, took jabs at the show in his live performance. He also took jabs at the city of Detroit. “I figured Detroit was a good place to tell some crack stories,” he said, before asking the audience, “Show of hands – who here has tried crack? Forget that. Who is holding crack right now? I don#39;t do crack anymore, but I#39;m just saying.” Their reply? More booing. In response, the embattled actor told the crowd, “Tell the guy next to you
After three summers in a row of Pixar movies that moved more than half of the audience to tears, the new trailer for Cars 2 seems to more or less guarantee that we’ll be able to leave the tissues at home this time. The plot setup seems even more convoluted in this trailer (something to do with international espionage and…racing), but that doesn’t mean you can’t kick back, relax and enjoy the pretty colors, wink-nudge one-liners and wacky antics of Larry the Cable Guy.
If there’s one thing we love at Movieline HQ, it’s ridiculous porn parodies . Who is the audience for this stuff? “You know, The Human Centipede was great, but what it really needed was more badly-lit exploitative shots of female bodies!” Anyway. In Movieline’s neverending quest to cover all facets of this burgeoning sub-industry, here’s your latest round-up for Thursday, Feb. 10. Have you heard about the Elvis Presley porn parody that is actually drawing death threats?
The kind of filmmaking excitement that director Peter Weir brings to movies is bone deep. It doesn’t emerge in the flashy flourishes that come off as compulsively exhibitionistic — the “Dude, Where’s My Camera Car?” school. Instead, in the potent and dream-like The Way Back , Weir’s subtle control is evident by the way he uses sound, embracing the allure and menace it simultaneously evokes. And we’re reminded how crushingly obvious many directors are about incorporating the aural aspect of their work; generally when the audience is aware of it, it’s used like a blunt object by horror film directors.

The Hero hitmaker Mariah Carey was performing at the 2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday but was left red-faced during a rendition of Make It Happen after she tripped over in her high-heeled shoes and landed on her behind. Mariah Carey suffered an embarrassing on-stage slip-up during a show in Singapore at the weekend when she fell over mid-song. Carey was helped to her feet by one of her dancers and joked to the audience, “I did that on purpose!” She later called out to
