Alexander Payne’s The Descendants has just about everything you need for a male midlife-crisis movie, and more: A big plot of unspoiled family land about to be sold off to developers, sullen teenagers, a wife in a coma. Payne, in his first full-length feature since the 2004 Sideways , pulls out all the stops, including casting George Clooney, an actor who’s aging beautifully but who nonetheless, thankfully, has allowed himself to look his age.

Descendants, Dangerous Method Lead 38th Telluride Line-Up

Hey, look at that: Mere hours after allowing a brief peek behind the curtain at fest HQ, the team at the Telluride Film Festival have announced the line-up for its 38th installment, which gets underway tomorrow. In addition to unveiling the North American premieres of awards hopefuls The Descendants , A Dangerous Method , We Need to Talk About Kevin , Albert Nobbs and numerous others, the famously top-secret Colorado portal to the fall festival season will honor George Clooney, Pierre Étaix and Tilda Swinton with its coveted Silver Medallions. George Clooney’s latest film, The Descendants , hit the water off the coast of Waikiki to film some scenes that look like a burial. In the film, Clooney’s character loses is wife to a boating accident.

We hate to say it, but stick George Clooney in a pair of high-waist khakis, and a short-sleeve button down and the sexy stud looks like your average Joe. But, don’t go thinking the star has forgotten his style… Clooney, who is currently on location filming The Descendents in Hawaii, is just working. So, we guess we can forgive him.
