Trevor Project will present singer with their Hero Award at December event. Now her work with the community is earning her some recognition. At this year’s annual Trevor Live event, the singer will be honored by the Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization that offers suicide-prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. Gaga will receive the Trevor Hero Award, Press Party reports. The organization will also recognize Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 Award. “Our young people are at the center of a health crisis, and vocal leaders like Lady Gaga and technology leaders like Google Inc. have stepped up to help change our culture,” David McFarland, interim executive director and CEO of the Trevor Project, said in a statement. “Our honorees are working with the Trevor Project to make a better today and a brighter tomorrow for youth. We are proud to honor Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award and Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 award for their work to help young people express their true selves with pride.” Gaga and her mother recently started the Born This Way Foundation , which will focus on “youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change.” The Trevor party is set to go down on December 4 at the Hollywood Palladium. Gaga won’t be the only A-lister on hand at the big show. Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Miley Cyrus, Gleeks Chris Colfer and Darren Criss, Julianne Hough and “True Blood” star Joe Manganiello are just a few of the stars slated to appear. Criss made headlines last year when he was joined onstage by Katy Perry at the event. Organization addresses controversy surrounding band’s halftime performance in Detroit in an email to MTV News. By James Montgomery Chad Kroeger of Nickelback Photo: Getty Images By now, you’ve no doubt heard what some Detroit Lions fans have to say about Nickelback’s halftime performance at the team’s annual Thanksgiving game (hint, it isn’t good), but to date, folks with the Lions — and the NFL, for that matter — have remained silent on the matter. The same cannot be said, however, for the United Way, the sponsors of the halftime show, who released a statement last week officially confirming that Nickelback were on board for the event, and have now weighed in on the controversy surrounding their performance. In particular, the organization addressed criticism from some Lions fans that an artist from Detroit should have been booked for the high-profile game in an email to MTV News. “We’re grateful to Nickelback for generously donating time and resources to this effort,” United Way director of publicity Sal Fabens wrote. “This is a nationally televised show that historically has featured artists from many locations, such as Indiana’s John Mellencamp [and] New York’s Mary J. Blige … For the past two years, we featured Motown artists and Detroit’s own Kid Rock, but the performers have never been limited to those from Detroit.” Fabens also wrote that, in one way, the fact that some 75,000 fans have signed an online petition calling for the band’s ouster is fitting, since the theme of the United Way’s halftime performance is “Live United.” “This is a call to action, an invitation for everyone to join us, regardless of their stance on various issues, to move forward on creating opportunities for a better life for all,” he wrote. “It’s going to take everyone working together … to make progress on ambitious goals in the areas of education, income and health across the country … We invite varying points of view and voices to all come together so we can move forward. “We would hope that various opinions about a rock band don’t overshadow the fact that the band’s generosity is helping to bring attention to this message,” Fabens’ email concluded. But leading man Taylor Lautner was only looking to the future when he caught up with MTV News during the live stream of the event. In fact, he wasn’t even looking at the “Breaking Dawn” films as being the last time he’d be in a film with his co-stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart . Sure, there’s nothing more we as fans would love than for Lautner to star in another movie with Robsten in the near future, regardless what the genre was. But the 19-year-old “Abduction” star has one specific type of movie in mind for their movie reunion: a comedy. “If I did a film again with them, I’d like to do a comedy. A super, super funny movie,” Lautner said. “I think they’re funny, especially when they’re together. Our relationships together are quite hilarious, so it would be a funny movie, for sure.” So would it end up with him taking his shirt off again? “If the role requires it and I’m in love with it, then we’ll see,” he said. Fortunately for fans of Lautner’s now-famous set of abs, his shirt apparently comes off within the opening minutes of “Breaking Dawn.” He might not be the biggest fan of the attention he gets for his sexy bod nowadays, but it seems like he’s willing to take it off to keep the fans happy. Egypt ain’t playin with that illuminati bs. Egypt’s antiquities authority closed the largest of the Giza pyramids Friday following rumors that groups would try to hold spiritual ceremonies on the site at 11:11 A.M. on Nov. 11, 2011. The authority’s head Mustafa Amin said in a statement Friday that the pyramid of Khufu, also known as Cheops, would be closed to visitors until Saturday morning for “necessary maintenance.” The closure follows a string of unconfirmed reports in local media that unidentified groups would try to hold “Jewish” or “Masonic” rites on the site to take advantage of mysterious powers coming from the pyramid on the rare date. Amin called all reports of planned ceremonies at the site “completely lacking in truth.” The complex’s director, Ali al-Asfar, said Friday that an Egyptian company requested permission last month to hold an event called “hug the pyramid,” in which 120 people would join hands around the ancient burial structure. The authority declined the request a week ago, al-Asfar said, but that did not stop concerned Egyptians from starting internet campaigns to prevent the event from taking place. “It has been a big cause now on Facebook and Twitter for many people to write about,” al-Asfar said. The closure was unrelated to the rumors, he said, adding that the pyramid needed maintenance after the large number of visitors during the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday last week. The rest of the complex, which includes two other large pyramids, numerous tombs and the Sphinx, remained open Friday, though security appeared to be heavier than usual. Maintenance huh? Regardless of where Hollywood stands on Kim’s short-lived marriage, there are those who are extending their love and support to the reality starlet. One of those supporters is rapper Trina , who attended the summer wedding and has the fondest memories of the lavish ceremony, which was attended by the former couple’s closest 400 friends and relatives. “I just know that Kim is a great person. She’s a very sweet person and whatever is going on, I’m sure she’ll work it out and they’ll fix it,” Trina said on “RapFix Live” this week. “I was at the wedding. It was very beautiful and, of course, I’m like, wishing her all the best and the support and everything. Auction items from rented home include bed on which Jackson died. But will they pony up big bucks to own the bed on which their icon died? We will find out on December 17, when Julien’s Auctions Gallery will auction off the contents of the rented Holmby Hills, California, home that Jackson was renting at the time of his death. Though the announcement of the sale does not mention Jackson by name, it lists a variety of fine art and furnishings from the residence, including a gilded Louis XV headboard (est. $3,000/$4,000) and a $30,000 watercolor painting by Maurice Utrillo. An Associated Press story revealed that the sale of contents of 100 North Carolwood Drive will comprise items left behind by Jackson. The singer passed away in the home on June 25, 2009, and on Monday his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was found guilty of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death. Among the pieces of evidence brought up by prosecution witnesses attesting to Murray’s medical incompetence was the fact that he gave Jackson CPR on a bed instead of a hard surface. The hundreds of items up for sale in the auction include the queen-size bed where Jackson slept. In an ironic twist, just as Murray was getting news of the guilty verdict, reporters were being taken through the three-story home on a private tour in order to publicize the auction. “We want to preserve the history of these items,” said auctioneer Darren Julien of the contents, which include paintings and sculptures Jackson surrounded himself with in the rented home as he tuned up for his planned “This is It” comeback tour. The house, where Jackson lived with his three children from December 2008 until his death, is also separately up for sale. One of the most-personal items on the block ($400) is a chalkboard that hung in the home’s kitchen that features a note from the kids that reads, “I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it’s for free.” A mirror on an antique armoire in Jackson’s private bedroom featured a message the star wrote to himself that read, “TRAIN, perfection, March April. FULL OUT May,” a reference to the grueling rehearsal schedule the 50-year-old was keeping up as he prepared for the string of concerts that were to begin in London in July 2009. Reporters also saw a “medication room,” the bedroom shown in evidence photos at Murray’s trial, where fans can pick up upholstered chairs smudged with Jackson’s makeup. An attorney for Jackson matriarch Katherine Jackson said that the family is aware of the auction and has made certain that the event does not use Michael’s name or likeness to help sell the items; Jackson’s name is not mentioned in the promotional materials for the auction. Brody Jenner, who was with Lavigne, is pressing charges against his attackers. By Jocelyn Vena Avril Lavigne Photo: Getty Images Avril Lavigne has been receiving lots of love from her fans after news broke that she was hurt in a bar fight in Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning. The singer is grateful for the support she’s been receiving. “Wanted to thank all of my fans, friends and family for their support over the last couple of days. Saw all ur comments and emails xo thank u,” she wrote via Twitter. In a previous tweet , she said, “#ViolenceIsNeverTheAnswer.” In the aftermath of the weekend fight at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, police confirmed to E! News that Brody Jenner, who was with Lavigne at the time of the incident, has pressed charges against his attacker or attackers (according to reports, there were up to five). Jenner filed a police report for assault with a deadly weapon. He was allegedly hit with a broken bottle while out partying with Lavigne. In a statement from his manager, Jenner also thanked his fans for the well wishes he has received since the incident. “Brody Jenner is recovering at home after being assaulted in an unprovoked attack this past Saturday night. He appreciates all the calls of support and well wishes,” the statement reads, according to the Los Angeles Times. “As this is an ongoing police investigation, there will be no further statements at this time.” Although little is known about the events of the night, sources tell UsMagazine.com that the altercation took place at Beacher’s Madhouse at the Roosevelt. “At first, the girl called Brody something and that set Avril off so she talked sh– back to them,” the source said, adding that Lavigne initially got into an argument with a woman. “Brody came over aggressively and got involved,” the source said. “They were scuffling on the floor. … Brody was the aggressor and had five guys with him. When they finally got up Brody was bleeding.” Another man reportedly came to the defense of the woman Lavigne was fighting. The source added that “there was no bottle with blood and no bottle broken or anything like that [visible].” Representatives for Lavigne had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time.
