HBCU Leaders To Meet With Trump Again

Link:

A lthough an upcoming White House summit where President Donald Trump will meet with the leaders of historically Black colleges and universities has drawn a lot of criticism, several HBCU leaders say that they are committed to moving forward with the meeting, reports USA Today . Some HBCU presidents gearing up for White House summit https://t.co/zmu3R1pUn5 via @USATODAY — Walter M. Kimbrough (@HipHopPrez) September 16, 2017 While some HBCU presidents have made the decision to pull out of the event—which is slated to take place on Monday—those who still plan on attending believe that it’s crucial to meet with the president so that they can voice their concerns, the news outlet writes. “It’s important that we be at the table,” David Beckley , president of Rust College, told USA Today. “We have to be there to express our concerns. I’m willing to try again. I’m not sure how many more times I’ll go — based on results of this trip.” But will a seat at the table guarantee that their concerns will be addressed? In February, President Trump met with a collective of HBCU presidents to discuss the financial needs of Black institutions and an executive order which moved the HBCU initiative from the Department of Education to the White House. Following the meeting, then-Morehouse president, John Wilson Jr. shared that the exchange was “troubling.” Not to mention, the attention was diverted from their concerns to a viral photo of Kellyanne Conway sitting awkwardly during the meeting. In a piece featured on Medium , Dillard University President Dr. Walter Kimbrough shared that the meeting turned out to be a photo-op for the president. “There was very little listening to HBCU presidents today- we were only given about 2 minutes each, and that was cut to one minute, so only about 7 of maybe 15 or so speakers were given an opportunity today,” he wrote. Since that meeting went awry, things have gone downhill between Trump’s administration and HBCUs. Around the same time that the meeting took place, U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos came under fire for making uninformed, ignorant remarks about HBCUs being “pioneers of school choice.” In May, while signing a government spending bill , Trump implied that federal financing for historically Black colleges and universities was unconstitutional. According to NPR , this week Tim Scott —the only Black Republican in the Senate—sat down with Trump to discuss his failure to condemn White supremacists during the Charlottesville chaos. The meeting proved to be ineffective after Trump still blamed “both sides” for the events that took place. What are your thoughts about the upcoming meeting? Sound off in the comments. Danielle Mullins: I Am NOT Unstable!

As we know, Danielle Mullins is not getting her own makeover show . It was totally in the works (if not yet a done deal), but not anymore. That’s what happens when you have a falling out with the media company that represents you. That company stated their reasons for terminating their relationship, but now Danielle is speaking out and sharing her side. In a surprising number of cases, 90 Day Fiance is a story about people journeying across the globe and leaving behind friends and family for love. They get married and start families. A lot of them seem to be set up for their happily ever afters. But, as always, there are a few bad apples in the bunch. In the case of 90 Day Fiance , these “apples” are relationships. Danielle Mullins’ relationship with Mohamed Jbali was rotten to the very core. From the start of their marriage, there were problems. Danielle accused Mohamed Jbali of cheating on her and demanded that they have sex. ( Danielle and Mohamed did bang , but only the once — to consummate their marriage) Mohamed accused Danielle of lying about her criminal record and of misusing his credit card and identity. He also complained that Danielle had a foul body odor and that she needed to seek medical help for it. The end result? A divorce so bitter that, even though they’re now exes, Danielle has been actively seeking to have Mohamed deported. Mohamed Jbali is done with 90 Day Fiance , and it looks like Danielle is, too. But Danielle was all set to get her own makeover show. She’d even lost weight in preparation for it. Thanking her haters for her new career , Danielle Mullins had signed with GR Media, the same company that had represented Mama June for her makeover show. GR Media told their side of things. It seemed that there was a battle of wills over control over Danielle Mullins’ social media accounts. Danielle wanted to post photos of her friends and family. She apparently also used social media to answer questions about restricted information. Allegedly, Danielle demonstrated such an instability that GR Media nearly took out a restraining order against her. Well, now Danielle is sharing her side of things in a lengthy Facebook post. “I would like to thank my supporters for supporting me this season. Due to difference of opinion, and much speculation by parties, it is unfortunate that me, GR Media, and BMB Management have to part ways.” And maybe we’ll get some answers. Or Danielle’s version of them. “I am writing this to clear up a couple of things that was stated in an article by Starcasm giving Gina’s side. I signed with BMB Management which is owned by Brandilyn Snail and I have never talked to her nor met while being signed to her company. My dealings were with Gina R odriguez and I only talked to her a few times on the phone and rest of the activity was done by text messaging.” Okay. “I only talked to Natasha Fett a couple of times on phone to and then rest by text messaging. I have been accused of extremely unstable behavior by all three which is not the case. How can they say that when they have never met me in person.” For the record, you can totally come across as unstable via text message. People do it all of the time. “They get that by what is already out there and has been portrayed on the show and that is sad to say that about someone you have never met. Furthermore they set me up to fail at this makeover excepting me to lose 20 pounds in a week to two weeks.” But it sounds like there’s hope for Danielle’s fans, as she still wants to go through this. “I am moving on from this on my own weight lose journey or with the help of another manager.” “I am grateful for the connections I’ve made and the friendships I’ve formed during this time. I wish continued success to my former management team and I implore my fans to take caution when reading certain stories as they pertain to the events that supposedly have taken place.” We’ll give her this much — she sounds super professional. “Again, I wish the best for all involved and I am looking forward to what the future holds for myself. Thank You ” If she does her weight loss journey on her own, we can expect a way lower budget and maybe some social media videos. If another agency decides to sign her, maybe she’ll get along better with them. In that case, we could be looking at Danielle Mullins on her own show. It would be a limited series, sure. But she’d still keep her name out there. Only time will tell, we guess. View Slideshow: 90 Day Fiance Couples: Who’s Still Together?

Bae Watch: The Best Shows To Watch With Bae

Read the original post:

Source: Katrina Wittkamp / Getty A night out on the town with Bae is what date nights are made of, but sometimes a simple night on the couch is all you need to make romantic memories. The best date night in starts with snacks, a good blanket and more importantly, a great TV/ movie lineup. Shows that spark healthy discourse or an all-out battle of the sexes are what keep your favorite shows and relationship interesting. Are you and Bae on the opposite side of an episode or do you see remnants of your relationship in your favorite TV couple? These are just a few of the questions that are bound to come up while “bae watching” and we’ve compiled a list of the best ones on our radar. Let us know if your favorite made the list! Insecure Whether you’re a member of the #LawrenceHive or strictly #TeamIssa, there are few better shows depicting modern, black relationships than the HBO hit Insecure . On Sunday nights, all you have to do is hop on Twitter to see the trending topics dominated by the events of that week’s episode. What makes this show such a fun watch for couples is that not only does it open the dialog for the ups and downs of relationships, but it also allows you to see relationship situations from various perspectives. Also, it’s hilariously funny and relatable, making it something you and Bae will talk about all week long. MUST READ: Lots Of Black Women Enjoy Giving Head, Ya’ll Power Don’t get it twisted, just because the Starz hit crime drama Power is testosterone-driven doesn’t mean both sexes can’t equally enjoy it. Power is must-see TV. The bulk of it centers around the drug game, Ghost and his right-hand man Tommy, but the juiciest part of the show is the downright messy love triangle between Ghost, his wife Tasha and mistress Angela and now Ghost’s former lawyer Silver. All of which will lead to heated arguments but enthralling debates between you and Bae. MUST READ: Omari Hardwick Turned Down A Role In ‘Girls Trip’ Empire Is there a better way to spend Thursday nights than with the Lyons? We think not. Empire perfectly combines the campiness of soap operas, the drama of the crime underworld and the lure of the modern music industry into a TV viewing experience. Men may admire the ruthless business dealings of Lucious Lyon, while women cape for Cookie’s tell-it-like-it-is approach to family and business. It’s impossible not to be sucked into the Lyon’s Den and their drama, which will keep both you and Bae entertained, while streaming the music from each week’s episode. Atlanta Atlanta is the quirky, brilliant, funny and blisteringly realistic show from the mind of Donald Glover. During its first season, the FX hit series was honest in its portrayal of a young black man trying to chase his dreams and the various obstacles in his way that range from comedic to dramatic and everything in between. You and Bae will laugh at its humorous take on struggling to make it, but also spark a healthy discussion on real-life issues currently dominating our landscape, like racism, classism, homophobia and transphobia. If nothing else, you both will come away with a healthy appetite for lemon pepper wet wings and an appreciation of Paper Boi’s skills on the mic. Dear White People The freshman Netflix series Dear White People takes on the serious topics (see issues on race, class, sex), but also leaves room for some good ol’ relationship drama and wild college antics, which is the basis of what makes this show memorable. The series is also a very timely depiction of what is going on in the country right now, but it’s not so preachy that you and Bae can’t find some enjoyment watching. After all, binge-watching is the ultimate modern-day couple activity. Blackish If you’re not married, but thinking or hoping to go that way in the future, the ABC hit family comedy Blackish is the perfect show to watch with Bae to get a take on how modern family life is…and if you view it the same way or not. Will you be a free-spirited mom like Bow or will you attempt to lay down the law like dad Dre only to find yourself in a string of mishaps? There are so many questions you and Bae can ask each other while watching Blackish and laughing along the way. This modern depiction of the black family also brilliantly highlights some of the biggest issues of today that not only impact adults, but kids as well, making this the perfect family comedy that also has a lot of heart. Bye, Worthless Beeyotch: L.A. Replaces Columbus Day With Indigenous Peoples Day

Getty Images L.A. Tosses “Columbus Day”, Plans To Celebrate NAtive Americans Instead Salute to Los Angeles, for doing what needed to be done for 25 generations. That’s unreserving a day for a man that never discovered a damn thing, who thought the world was flat and instead highlighting America’s indigenous peoples. According to NBC , Council members voted 14-1 to make the second Monday in October a day to commemorate indigenous, aboriginal and native people. It will be a paid holiday for city employees. An angelic councilman named Mitch O’Farrell, a member of the Wyandotte Nation tribe, pushed for the switch. When he took office four years ago, he was sworn in by his tribe’s chief, who performed a traditional blessing at the event. Super dope. A councilman Joe Buscaino was the lone “no” vote to the change. He sided with Italian-Americans, who view Columbus Day as a celebration of their national heritage. Los Angeles joins San Francisco and several other cities who now honor Native Americans instead of sh-tty Christopher Columbus.

Big Brother Recap: Is Josh Ready to Ditch Paul?

We think it’s fair to say that Big Brother 19 has featured some of most epic arguments in the history of Big Brother, and it’s making for a house divided.  When the episode got underway, Josh made his way to Jessica to let her know that she is not his target. Jessica was not about to bow down to him, so she mocked him once again.  Over the course of the summer, the pair has been at odds every step of the way, so it made sense that Jess would think Josh was trying to stir the pot.  Josh then lets her know that it’s only Cody he does not like, and Cody was in the room, so it was a rather ballsy move when you consider that Cody has immunity.  Jessica is not one to allow anyone to talk badly about her man of so many weeks, so she exits the conversation and brands it a big fat waste of time.  When it came to veto plans, Paul recalled that Christmas had the Ring of Replacement, and decided to use it to his advantage. He wanted her to use it in the event Cody’s name is called.  However, Paul revealed in the Diary Room that he wants Christmas to use it so that he can flush it out of the game so that she does not use it against him later.  Not one to listen to the leader, Christmas turned to Josh, and he told her not to use it so they can have it at their disposal later.  They tell Paul that they don’t want to use the power this week, but Paul turns the tables and reiterates that they absolutely need to send Jessica home or there will be hell to pay.  Christmas then says the best course of action is if Josh blinks at Christmas during the players being picked. That way she will know to use it.  When Cody’s name is picked, Josh blinks, and Christmas shuts him right out of the competition. This sends Jessica and Cody into a fit of despair as they realize the odds are stacked against them.  It’s the OTEV competition, and Elena is first out. Jessica is out second and starts crying again because she knows that means she is going home.  Mark ultimately wins the competition, meaning Josh needs to name a replacement nominee.  In the end, Josh puts up Raven, meaning she joins Elena and Jessica on the block.  It’s obvious that Jessica is going home, so there’s really no question about it.  Who do you want to go home? Sound off below! View Slideshow: Big Brother Winners: RANKED!
