Fairgrounds Monday (April 21). Nearly 5,000 people were in attendance, giving the venue one of its largest crowds to date. In a rare event, all five living U.S. Presidents converged today for the official opening of George W. Bush’s presidential library in Dallas, Texas. Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter were cheered by a crowd of former White House officials and world leaders. They were joined on stage by their wives – the nation’s current and former first ladies – for this outdoor ceremony on a sunny Texas morning. The leaders were putting aside the profound ideological differences that have divided them for years for a day of pomp and pleasantries for Bush, 66. As the George W. Bush Presidential Center opens, with it comes an unofficial return to the public eye for a man whose presidency was so polarizing. Presidential politics also hung over the event. Before the ceremony even began, former First Lady Barbara Bush made waves by brushing aside the building Jeb Bush 2016 presidential buzz. “We’ve had enough Bushes,” said Mrs. Bush, the spouse of George H.W. Bush and mother of George W. Bush, in an interview with NBC’s Today . Yet the man of the hour George W. Bush, openly talked up the presidential prospects of his brother in an interview that aired Wednesday on ABC: “He doesn’t need my counsel, because he knows what it is: ‘Run.'” What happens then is a topic for another day. This one was about George W. Bush’s presidency and the interactive exhibits housed to commemorate it. Major events such as 9/11, the financial bailout, the Iraq War and the international focus on HIV and AIDS, are all prominently displayed at the venue. Bush says he is comfortable with the decisions he made while in office and hopes history will be a fair judge. His successor will likely reflect similarly one day. For now, though, in a reminder of his duties as Oval Office inhabitant, President Obama is already off to honor members of the Texas fertilizer plant explosion .
Armed with explosives and guns, the Boston Marathon bombing suspects battled law enforcement officers in a Boston suburb early Friday morning. The two men unleashed chaos and killed an MIT campus officer before police took one of the men into custody and the other fled, officials said. The suspect taken into custody later died. Officials identified the man on the run as the “white-hat” suspect, referring to the photos released by the FBI Thursday. Authorities warned he should be considered armed and dangerous. The standoff with the suspects in Watertown, Mass., erupted after the fatal shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer. A transit police officer was also wounded in the Watertown firefight. Officials in Watertown were warning residents to “stay in their homes and not open their doors unless a police officer is there,” according to reports. “There is a terrorist on the loose,” said one officer at an impromptu press conference at about 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, after the intense battle. The suspect at large is believed to be the man who physically placed the bags containing the homemade bombs which killed 3 and injured 170 on Monday. He is described as “dressed in a grey hoodie, light skinned male, brown curly hair,” with international links and having been in the country legally a year. The suspects approached the MIT officer and shot him in head, sources said, then stole the MIT officer’s cruiser, robbed a nearby 7-11 and carjacked a Mercedes. They briefly kidnapped the driver of the SUV, and the suspects threw explosives out the window of the moving car in what was a harrowing and chaotic scene. The dead suspect had an improvised explosive device strapped to his chest and law enforcement sources warned that the suspect on the run may as well. The intense situation in Watertown followed an hours-long lockdown at MIT, where the campus police officer was shot and killed while investigating. A disturbance was reported on the Cambridge campus. It is not clear exactly what, but the suspects are believed to have killed the MIT officer and fled. Even as police swept the campus, there were reports of a violent car chase and then an extremely heavy police presence in Watertown, four miles away. The events began unfolding with reports of shots fired on the MIT campus at 10:48 p.m. ET, and the situation remained “active and extremely dangerous” for hours. It was later reported that a campus officer had been killed. Watertown resident Andrew Kitzenberg described the police shootout outside his house that followed when officials tracked down the Boston bombing suspects . “They engaged in gunfire for a few minutes,” he told NBC News. “They were also utilizing bombs, which sounded and looked like grenades, [during] the gunfight.” “They also had what looked like a pressure-cooker bomb.” Kitzenberg said two people took cover between a black Mercedes SUV and a sedan, and began shooting 70 or 80 yards toward six Watertown police vehicles. “It was a firefight,” the witness added. “There was a long exchange of gunfire.” One of the shooters then ran toward the cops, while the other got into the SUV. The person on foot later fell to the ground, either tackled or shot. The other drove the SUV through the line of police cars at the end of the street, he added. Kitzenberg said that while he had a “very clear view of the shooters,” he couldn’t see their faces but described them as “average size, average height.” Story developing … UPDATE : The two bombing suspects are brothers, aged 19 and 20, and legal permanent U.S. residents of Chechen origin, law enforcement sources say.

Brinson — better known as the fiancée of Miami Heat star LeBron James — is starting to step more into the public eye now, with hopes that whatever level of celebrity she has can be a tool to help children who need some assistance. Her first step in that endeavor was helping to provide prom dresses for about 100 underprivileged girls in her current home of Miami and her hometown of Akron, Ohio, doing so at a pair of events in recent days. “I can’t imagine being in their situation and not have somebody help,” said Brinson, whose wedding is scheduled for this summer. “I really care. It’s really in my soul to help people, and this is the first baby to come from it. There comes a time when you have to give back.” Lebron also spoke out about his soon-to-be wife’s latest efforts, insisting that this was what she was born to do. Ever since James came to Miami in July 2010, Brinson has largely shunned the spotlight, even though her longtime partner — she and the three-time NBA MVP have two sons together and were high school sweethearts — has encouraged her to be as visible as she wants. So in recent weeks, very quietly, she’s starting to step out. And James remains all for that. “I just think she has a knack for being powerful,” James said. “Women are more powerful than men. Her voice and her being my sidekick, her voice is very powerful, especially to these young women who are underprivileged.” At both the events in Miami and Akron, Brinson talked to the girls about her experiences growing up, how her prom night started off as a disaster — bad hair night, thanks to an overzealous stylist who ignored her wishes — and how just about any challenge can be overcome. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are scheduled to come face-to-face today for a divorce settlement conference in Los Angeles. But there’s one little problem: the moronic Brooklyn Nets forward isn’t gonna make it in time. Sources confirm to TMZ that Humphries was in New York City this morning at 1. And with the first flight out of JFK not arriving at LAX until 9:15 a.m., it will be difficult for Kris to attend a hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Both halves of the estranged couple are required to be present at the conference to attempt a resolution before their divorce case goes to trial. But Humphries may simply consider the event fruitless, considering he’s holding out for a $7 million payoff or he will continue to pursue an annulment. Kardashian is expected to call witnesses at the May 6 trial that will prove Humphries was well aware of what he was getting into all along, while Kris… is being sued by a clothing store owner who says he reneged on a deal. Clinton, it turns out, inspired the man who filmed Mitt Romney’s infamous and game-changing 47 percent comments. HuffPost has agreed to withhold the name of the surreptitious filmmaker until he breaks his silence on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” Wednesday evening, followed by an appearance on HuffPost Live Thursday morning. In interviews over the last several months, he laid out his thinking before and after Romney’s speech. The man, who tended bar for a company that catered to a high-end clientele, had previously worked at a fundraiser at a home where Clinton spoke. After Clinton addressed guests, the man recalled, the former president came back to the kitchen and thanked the staff, the waiters, the bartenders, the busboys, and everyone else involved in putting the event together. He shook hands, took photos, signed autographs, and praised the meal — all characteristic of the former president. When the bartender learned he would be working at Romney’s fundraiser, his first thought was to bring his camera, in case he had a chance to get a photo with the presidential candidate. Romney, of course, did not speak to any of the staff, bussers or waiters. He was late to the event, and rushed out. He told his dinner guests that the event was off the record, but never bothered to repeat the admonition to the people working there. One of them had brought along a Canon camera. He set it on the bar and hit the record button. Jimmy Carter’s grandson, James, took the brunt of the public publicity for making sure that the tape was serviced to all the national media outlets.
