By James Montgomery Russell Brand Photo: Getty Images Russell Brand is set to make his first public appearance since filing for divorce from Katy Perry when he takes the stage at New York’s Radio City Music Hall as part of an Amnesty International benefit. Brand will perform alongside Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Reggie Watts and others at Amnesty International’s Secret Policeman’s Ball, a long-running celebration of free speech and comedy, set for March 4 at the venerable NYC venue. The event marks the first time the ball has been held in the U.S. and also is Brand’s first scheduled appearance since he and Perry split in December; the “California Gurls” hitmaker has already made a pair of public appearances, first filming an Adidas commercial earlier this month and then returning to the stage for a concert in Jakarta, Indonesia . Check out photos of Russell and Katy from happier times. In a video promoting a then-upcoming comedy tour of American colleges — which was shot in mid-November, before the couple announced their split — Brand was seen jokingly removing his wedding ring . State Of The Union Address Inspires ‘Spark’ For Obama

President Obama’s speech has supporters feeling optimistic, young voters tell MTV News. By Kimberly Reynolds, with reporting by Uptin Saiidi President Barack Obama Photo: Bill O’Leary/ Getty Images Young voters across the country tuned in with anticipation Tuesday night to watch President Obama’s State of the Union address . At a New York viewing party sponsored by Gen44 — a Democratic National Committee initiative to politically engage young professionals — MTV News asked voters’ opinions on how the president plans to address the issues facing the country. While the event was filled with mostly Obama supporters, there were still some skeptics. Simone Rakhit supported Obama in the 2008 election — as did 66 percent of voters age 18 to 29 — but started to become disengaged with the president in the three years since he took office and in the upcoming election. “For me, I had lost a little bit of interest, but seeing him tonight, I kind of got that spark back,” Rakhit said. “I kind of got excited again.” Many young voters agreed that the president has a tough road ahead of him in accomplishing the goals he set forth in the State of the Union address, especially in boosting the economy. But they were still optimistic he could get the job done. “I think the president did a great job tonight in addressing all of my concerns, and I think he did it in such a way that he could get a lot of people to rally around him and not just his supporters,” Karsten Vagner said. “I think Americans are led by example. I think if we’re divided as a country, it’s because our government is divided.” Despite the president’s low approval rating and this being an election year, voters we spoke to were glad the president did not hold back in his speech. “I thought it was great that he had Warren Buffett’s secretary out there to serve as a visual example of just how absurd our tax system really is,” Michael Ettanani said. Vagner appreciated Obama’s no-holds-barred approach to the speech: “Tonight was a really good example of seeing people together, and I think it’s because we have a strong leader in the White House.” Shatha Dweik, who is pursuing a master’s degree, was most interested in hearing the president’s plans for job creation for recent graduates as well as his plan to extend the tuition tax credit. “My biggest concern is getting a job, and a good paying job at that,” Dweik shared. After the speech, Dweik said she had “a little bit of confidence in him — a little bit more than I had going into the address.” For her, the message of Tuesday night’s speech was: “There is still hope.” Share your thoughts on the president’s State of the Union address in the comments below. AVN 2012 Red Carpet Pictures of the Day

If you don’t read this site, you won’t know that a few photographers were supposed to link up with me in Vegas and none actually did…So I gave my press pass to a dude named Jose who looked pretty serious about his pictures…in exchange for the right to use his pictures….and this is what he sent me…. It coulda gone either way, he coulda told me to fuck off, he coulda just disappeared, but I’m glad to report…I made the right choice…Jose is a man of his word! Now lets hope I get to more events this year…I think it’s good for my soul…. My favorite part of the event wasn’t the glamour parties in every Vegas club…It wasn’t even the award show…it was just being in the hotel with all these amazing people…while the adult conference was going on….Genius… Biggest regret…Not meeting up with Chyna, Not making Dave Navarro let me smell his fingers, Not watching porn stars fuck in their rooms, not lying to aspiring pornstars about getting the famous…and not passing out drunk inside a pornstar…but vegas is so nuts…what did go down was life changing….

I did the porn convention…it was amazing. From hot, trashy, disgusting, amazing, young, old, fake tit, real tit bitches to greasy sleazy pimp, virgin loser porn addicts and just a whole mix of people …. I stayed entertained… I did the porn awards…it was amazing…long and drawn out and lacking someone like me to really bring it home with my great jokes…. I gave my all access pass to an older dude named Jose. See cuz I had no photographer and an hour before the event approached him outside the venue….. I have no idea if he will send in the pics, but when he does, or if he does, they’ll go up here….In the meantime here are some pics from the convention that I got with my shitty camera… Pornstars ignored me, Jessica Drake praised me then ignored me when I told her to unblock me on twitter, I didn’t watch pornstars fuck, Dave Navarro didn’t say hi to me, even though I did his radio show once….but if I make it through the year, I got big plans to make next year better….hell if I survive the rest of this trip I got big plans….which I probably will cuz I’m ridiculously well rested….thanks to the Hardrock Casino beds…but you never know…the cheap liquor and women is everywhere…. Here are some shitty pics I took of the adult expo….you need to understand….this went on for 4 days….8 hours a day…insanity everywhere….this is barely a glimpse into it…

Get Well: Tracy Morgan Rushed To Utah Hospital After Falling Unconscious At Sundance, Rep Says Altitude — Not Alcohol — Is To Blame

There’s nothing funny about this one. Tracy Morgan was being honored at a Sundance Film Festival event yesterday when sources say he was acting extremely intoxicated. The comedian ended up FALLING OUT after the event, but his rep says he had nothing to drink and blames it on the altitude. According to TMZ reports : Tracy Morgan was rushed to a hospital at the Sundance Film Festival — after the actor fell unconscious at an award ceremony … TMZ has learned. Tracy was being honored at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards in Park City, Utah — and sources tell TMZ, he appeared extremely intoxicated during his award acceptance speech. We’re told Tracy was escorted out of the building soon after his speech — and fell unconscious outside the building. Law enforcement sources tell us, an ambulance was then dispatched to Tracy’s location. We’re told Tracy was picked up and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Amy Roberts, a spokeswoman for Park City Medical Center, tells TMZ no drugs or alcohol were found in Tracy’s system upon medical evaluation. Morgan’s rep, Lewis Kay, also released a statement saying, “From a combination of exhaustion and altitude, Tracy is seeking medical attention.” Kay adds, “He is with his fiancée and grateful to the Park City Medical Center for their care. Any reports of Tracy consuming alcohol are 100% false.” Tracy make sure you keep rested! It might sound crazy but altitude really can have some crazy effects on folks. More On Bossip! A Whole Bunch Of AVN Awards Pictures

Apparently the AVN Awards were held over the weekend and yet again I wasn’t invited, but I’ve got a whole bunch of shots from the event to cheer me up. I’ve got to say that I’m not all that impressed, for a party filled with pornstars I was kind of expecting to see a whole lot more skimpy outfits and silicone… And possibly even a little girl on girl action. What a shame.

Is South Carolina Primary A Must-Win For Mitt Romney?

A clear victory could all but secure the nomination for Romney, but a close call or loss would be detrimental, experts say. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney Photo: Joe Raedle/ Getty Images No Republican has ever won his party’s presidential nomination without notching a win in South Carolina. That’s just one reason former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is hoping that when the dust clears Saturday night (January 21), he will be celebrating his second primary win in a row and, in theory, the key to his party’s nomination. South Carolina was expected to present Romney with his biggest challenge to date, due to its heavy Evangelical population. The man vying to be the Republican Party’s first Mormon presidential nominee was up by anywhere from 11 to 15 points in polls taken in the week before Saturday’s vote, with some predicting he’d get more than 40 percent of the vote. By Friday morning, however, a number of polls had him in either a dead heat with or trailing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Both men were well ahead of former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Congressman Ron Paul. In addition to his eroding poll numbers, Romney suffered a series of unfortunate events Thursday when a further analysis of the vote in Iowa revealed that Santorum had actually won the too-close-to-call Iowa caucus by 34 votes, erasing Romney’s razor-thin eight-vote win and his bragging rights for going 2-and-0. A short time later, Texas Governor Rick Perry abruptly dropped out of the race , throwing his support behind Gingrich. “If [Romney] wins South Carolina, it depends by how much. If he wins by 15, I would say, yes, he’s [the presumptive nominee]; if it’s in the close single digits, he’s not running at a pace to get the majority of the delegates,” said Columbia University professor of political science Robert Y. Shapiro, an expert in voting and political behavior. “All Gingrich has to do is stay in and if can run close enough and continue to raise money he could keep running.” Romney, who still has his solid New Hampshire win in pocket, has been taking heavy fire from Gingrich over the past few weeks. The former congressman has taken Romney to task for what he has deemed his opponent’s “vulture capitalist” ways while running the investment firm Bain Capital, where Romney oversaw the shuttering of a number of businesses, resulting in numerous layoffs. Romney has hit back at Gingrich for what he labeled an attack on “free enterprise,” accusing him of sounding like a Democrat in his criticisms. Larry Parnell, an associate professor and program director of the graduate school of political management at George Washington University, said the net effect of a potential Romney win and a possible shift in Perry voters to Gingrich could turn what he described as a “circular firing squad” of GOP nominees into a duel between the two men. “If [Romney] wins South Carolina, he will still have to deal with Gingrich, and it could slow him down,” said Parnell, a former press aide for the presidential campaign of Democrat Jimmy Carter. In terms of appearances, Parnell said even with a win in South Carolina, Romney is not likely to declare himself the presumptive candidate, because it could draw even more fire from his remaining opponents. “It’s in his best interest to keep conducting himself the way he has,” he said. “To say that now he’s ready to take on President Obama is just waving a red flag in front of Gingrich.” As long as he continues on the slow-and-steady path of wins, Parnell said, Romney should be able to weather the storms and likely come out on top. After the now-narrow loss in Iowa and a more convincing win in independent-leaning New Hampshire, observers have been looking to the solidly red state of South Carolina as the first test of whether Romney can convince traditional Evangelical voters that he is the right choice for the party. Parnell said that given South Carolina’s record in picking the eventual establishment candidate, any deviation from that norm (i.e., a too-close-to-call Gingrich finish or win) could cause some serious problems for Romney. A win, however, would prove Romney is a viable national candidate and ease the pressure on him to win over the party’s still-reluctant-to-commit base. Over the past week, Gingrich urged Santorum and Perry to drop out of the race so conservative voters can rally behind just one “anti-Romney” candidate, arguing that he is the only remaining candidate who knows how to build a national campaign. Even as his poll numbers jumped, though, Gingrich faced another obstacle Thursday when his second ex-wife appeared in an ABC News interview in which she claimed the former speaker had urged her to have an “open” marriage so he could continue an affair with his then-mistress, now-wife Callista. Both men agreed a solid Romney win in South Carolina could all but ensure his eventual path to the nomination, though a close Gingrich finish could propel the ex-congressman to Florida’s primary January 31. John King Ignores Ron Paul, Gets Booed By Crowd at S.C. Debate

John King did not have a good night Thursday. At last night’s CNN debate in Charleston, S.C., the network’s moderator was absolutely eviscerated by Newt Gingrich after King brought up his ex-wife’s recent interview in undoubtedly the event’s most memorable exchange. Not only that, he seemed to skip over Ron Paul – a doctor by trade – more than once, most notably during an exchange about the candidates abortion positions: John King Ignores Ron Paul Following a back-and-forth between Republican presidential candidates Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, King changed the topic, only to be booed by the crowd. Because he had completely ignored the fourth candidate on stage, Paul. Paul laughed off the oversight, noting “John, once again, it’s a medical subject and I’m a doctor!” Paul, an obstetrician, went on to weigh in on the subject. The Texas Congressman voiced concerns about federal funding of institutions providing abortions, saying such decisions should be made on a state-by-state basis. South Carolina’s crucial primary takes place tomorrow.
