Bigger bonuses for bankers! Up 17% in 2009

The NY Times is reporting that bankers had a plum year in 2009. While unemployment creeped above 10% and thousands of Americans saw significant reductions in their income, the big banks on Wall Street who helped kick off our exciting Great Recession paid out $20.3 billion in bonuses. A 17% increase over the previous year. Well that's exciting news for bankers (and for the state of New York, which has come to depend heavily on the taxes raised from Wall Street's bonuses). Gaining a reputation for producing silly and misguided student videos , Yale has released another smash hit! This one is for the sorority Pi Phi , which attracts potential rushers with promises of fun activities, intellectual rigor, and people thinking you’re pretty. The best section of the video begins at 2:50, with two Rumpus editors — nerdy non-sorority types — discussing the beauty of Pi Phi girlz, who are often featured in the humor magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful Elis issue. You’ll likely scratch your head in confusion at this, having just watched a girl with a Rhys Ifans wig and raccoon eyes gab about her various extra-curriculars in the previous scene. Ah well. Hey Yale! Stop making videos. Any ivy-covered mystique you may have once had is very quickly eroding away to reveal your dorky and not-terribly-attractive insides. Actually, scratch that. Rihanna and Jay-Z Run This Town

Having dominated headlines last week with her two-part Good Morning America and 20-20 interview detailing Chris Brown’s brutal assault on her in detail and for the first time in her own words, Rihanna is ready to get back to the music. To that end, she made a surprise cameo Sunday night at her mentor Jay-Z’s concert at UCLA. We believe this is her first live performance since the Chris Brown assault , and while it’s only one song, it doesn’t look like she missed a beat
