Another day, yet ANOTHER idiotic statement by Nasty New t GOP hopeful and resident bloated bullishter Newt Gingrich slammed Barack Obama on Friday, saying the president’s remarks about the fatal February shooting of Trayvon Martin were “disgraceful.” Via HuffingtonPost : What the president said, in a sense, is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like. Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe, period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot, that would be OK because it didn’t look like him. That’s just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point, we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American, it is sad for all Americans. Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling. It sounds like Newt is only trying to play the race card and not very well at that. Sometimes the laws made to “protect us” end up doing more harm than good. Sanford police let George Zimmerman go home after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin last month, but Central Florida police agencies routinely make arrests for murder in “stand your ground” cases — and then let courts decide if a killing is justified. Passage of Florida’s landmark self-defense law in October 2005 caused initial confusion, but court records show police and prosecutors now file charges more often than not. Central Florida’s “stand your ground” claimants already in prison or awaiting trial range from an off-duty security guard to a retired Orlando police officer, bar patrons and a man who chopped off his cousin’s hand with a machete. So if police make these type of arrests regularly, why the hell isn’t George Zimmerman punk azz walking the streets??? Those and many other cases headed for trial share a common factor: witnesses willing to testify. In January 2011, 15 to 20 people were nearby when Chad Bekari Smith claimed two men shot at him outside an Orlando gas station. A security guard and father of three, Smith drew his licensed pistol, wounded both men, called 911 on his cellphone and waited for police to arrive, according to his arrest report. “I was going to lose my life, so I reacted and defended my life,” Smith, then 23, told his lawyer, according to court records. But police did not believe him. Nor did a jury that convicted Smith last fall of two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His conviction and 20-year prison sentence are under appeal. Unlike that case, there were no known eyewitnesses when Trayvon died Feb. 26 in a confrontation with Zimmerman inside the gated Retreat at Twin Lakes neighborhood. The teen was walking back from a 7-Eleven when he was followed by Zimmerman, 28, a Neighborhood Watch volunteer who fired a single shot and later told police Trayvon attacked him, records show. That’s hardest type of case for prosecutors. When the alleged aggressor is dead and there are no witnesses, “it is harder to disprove or to prove beyond a reasonable doubt” that the shooter claiming self-defense faced a credible threat, according to Randy Means, chief investigator and spokesman for the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office. “Since very little case law exists, all we have to go on is our interpretation of the statute. It’s too new for us to use case law effectively,” Means said. “It is frustrating for the charging prosecutors.” Ultimately, the decision to charge Zimmerman with murder lies in the hands of State Attorney Norm Wolfinger who was one of several prosecutors who lobbied AGAINST “stand your ground” in 2006. What will the future hold for Gabriel Aubry and his precious baby girl Nahla? According to TMZ reports : Gabriel Aubry just showed up at dependency court in L.A. where a judge will decide if even more restrictions will be placed on his custodial rights. Sources tell us the judge is expected to lay down a series of orders … requiring Gabriel to do various things to ensure the safety of 3-year-old Nahla. The judge will hear from the social worker on the case as well as the attorney appointed to protect Nahla’s rights. As TMZ first reported Gabriel was hauled into dependency court following a child endangerment investigation. Gabriel can only visit with Nahla in the presence of a court monitor and the judge has imposed other restrictions as well. What’s especially significant … once the judge establishes the ground rules for Gabriel’s visitation rights, the case will go back to family court where Halle is trying to convince the judge to allow her to move to France with the child. Newt Gingrich deflected a question about Obama’s recent decision mandating that employers’ insurance plans cover contraception by pointing out that Obama voted in favor of a law that protected abortion providers during his term as state senator of Illinois “You did not once during the 2008 campaign ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide,” Gingrich said. “If we’re going to debate about who is the extremist on this issues, it is President Obama, who, as a state senator, voted to protect doctors who killed babies. Mitt Romney lambasted Obama’s new requirement that insurers of faith-based organizations who object to birth control must offer the coverage to those groups’ employees for free. “I don’t think we’ve seen in the history of this country the kind of attack on religious freedom we’ve seen in Barack Obama most recently requiring the Catholic Church to provide for its employees and its various enterprises health care insurance that would include birth control, sterilization and the morning after pill,” he said. “He tried to retreat from that, but he retreated in a way that was not appropriate, because these insurance companies have to provide these same things, and now the Catholic Church will have to pay for them.” In fact, the Catholic Church is exempt from Obama’s contraception mandate. Houston spent Thursday at Tru Nightclub in Hollywood with friends, where Francis said she had words with the “I Will Always Love You” singer. “It wasn’t a violent exchange,” explained Francis. “She did not push me… I looked at her and she moved my face away. If it were not Whitney Houston, it could have been very bad.” Whitney was seen later with what looked like blood on her legs. The former NBA star had too many fingers, an officer wrote in his report. WSB-TV reports that the image and other tips led Gwinnett County, Ga., police to seize 78 pairs of Nike sneakers that authorities contend are counterfeit. Police say they’re questioning two South Carolina women they say were traveling with the shoes when police stopped their Pontiac Grand Prix on Saturday on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta. Aside from Michael Jordan’s six fingers, investigators said the serial numbers on the shoes’ tongue did not match the numbers on the box. Officers said they could peel the Nike logos right off what appeared to be Nike Air Jordans. Police say counterfeit goods being transported on I-85 is a growing trend. The hot items are sneakers and designer bags, authorities said. This has to be the most drama ever surrounding a celebrity death.
