Well damn… Think before you tweet. A former teacher turned radio commentator and a math tutor who lives with his mother sit in a prison in southern Mexico, facing possible 30-year sentences for terrorism and sabotage in what may be the most serious charges ever brought against anyone using a Twitter social network account. Prosecutors say the defendants helped cause a chaos of car crashes and panic as parents in the Gulf Coast city of Veracruz rushed to save their children because of false reports that gunmen were attacking schools. Gerardo Buganza, interior secretary for Veracruz state, compared the panic to that caused by Orson Welles’ 1938 radio broadcast of “The War of the Worlds.” But he said the fear roused by that account of a Martian invasion of New Jersey “was small compared to what happened here.” “Here, there were 26 car accidents, or people left their cars in the middle of the streets to run and pick up their children, because they thought these things were occurring at their kids’ schools,” Buganza told local reporters. The charges say the messages caused such panic that emergency numbers “totally collapsed because people were terrified,” damaging service for real emergencies. The perpetrator, Gilberto Martinez Vera, began to tweet after seeing military action and hearing rumors of endangered children “My sister-in-law just called me all upset, they just kidnapped five children from the school,” Martinez tweeted. In fact, no such kidnappings occurred that day. Defense lawyer Claribel Guevara said the rumors already had started and that Martinez Vera was just relaying what others told him. She said he never claimed to have firsthand knowledge of the incident. But in a subsequent tweet about the kidnap rumor, he said, “I don’t know what time it happened, but it’s true.” He also tweeted that three days earlier, “they mowed down six kids between 13 and 15 in the Hidalgo neighborhood.” While a similar attack occurred, it didn’t involve children. In shock, Vera exclaimed through his lawyer: “How can they possibly do this to me, for re-tweeting a message? I mean, it’s 140 characters. It’s not logical,’” SMH, hope this guy has a good lawyer because 30 years is serious business… Source
How cute is this guy and his little turtle bookbag?!?!?!? Here is LeBron James’ son Bryce on the first day of school. Thank goodness he doesn’t have a hairline like his daddy
Well, would you look at that? Somehow, being in one of the most made-for-drama-attention-and-reality-TV relationships in history has made Evelyn Lozada humble and reserved. She doesn’t even want her big day to be a big day. Lozada does not want to enter “the most glamorous, richest wedding of the century” competition, along with Kim Kardashian and Petra Ecclestone. On the contrary, she would prefer a more intimate ceremony. “I want something small, even though he wants something big”, the star confesses and gives her most important argument to support it: “I want something intimate. I’m 35, and we have five kids together. I don’t want anything over the top.” Yeah? We don’t see the good folks at VH1 and the suits in charge of Chad and Evelyn’s finances letting that go down. Really New Zealand?! This is what ya’ll are on?! SMH RAPPER BIG Boi, who recently blasted a store in New Zealand airport for selling “racist” dolls, had the offensive products removed from sale, it has been reported. The Outkast star posted pictures of the toys on his Twitter page last Thursday (Aug 25) describing them as “golliwogs,” a controversial series of dolls that depict black people in a racially offensive manner. In reaction to the Shutterbug rapper’s outburst, newspaper The New Zealand Herald contacted Auckland’s airport management, who then had the dolls removed. Airport corporate relations manager, Richard Llewellyn said: “Once we were made aware, the retailer was immediately asked to remove the product from sale.” “In this case we acknowledge that this is a product widely regarded as inappropriate. We apologise for any offence caused as a result of this product being on sale at the airport,” he added. Boi stop!! Source
What. THE. Fidduck?!?! Austrian Gottfried Wagner is accused of keeping his own daughters captive and raping them for 41-years, and now RadarOnline.com has horrifying new details of the lair where he allegedly committed his torture. The police charge that Wagner’s daughters Christine, 53 and Erika, 45 were forced to live in squalor amid farming implements, oil drums and cement sacks while their own father lived in luxury in the rest of the house which he kept pristine. The women – who are now mentally ill after the years of alleged abuse – had to use a commode in the middle of the room and slept on a wooden shelf instead of a bed, according to The Express newspaper of Great Britain and Germany’s Bild. While police are grilling the 80-year-old over the sickening abuse which spanned 15,000 days and nights, more details are being uncovered. The women have told the police that they and their mother, Berta – who died in 2008 – were all victims of Wagner who they say beat them with a stick and poked them with a pitchfork. Go to Hell. Straight to Hell, do not pass ‘GO’, do not collect $200 Read more at RadarOnline
Surprise, surprise a Republican has proven to be a hypocrite… Republicans who support gay rights have seen their brief hopes for Rick Perry’s candidacy dashed as old quotes surface, new pledges are signed and news of his forthcoming campaign events and associations emerges. The Texas governor and leading presidential candidate briefly gave hope to the increasingly influential group of Republican LGBT advocates when he expressed his support for the rights of states to pass their own legislation governing marriage. Since then, however, he has said he would back a constitutional amendment banning the practice, while quotes from an old book surfaced in which he compared homosexuality to alcoholism. On Friday, meanwhile, Perry signed the National Organization for Marriage’s pledge that would, among other things, commit him to support sending a federal marriage amendment to states upon becoming president. But the icing on the cake could come this weekend, when Perry is set to mingle with one of the most virulently anti-gay activists and prominent social conservative donors in his home state. The event, officially labeled a “call to action,” will feature a retreat at a Texas Hill Country ranch. Among the event’s hosts will be David Barton, an evangelical leader and founder of the organization WallBuilders. Barton is most commonly known for holding revisionist historical views, specifically regarding the history of civil rights. But his incendiary stance on LGBT issues has made him an object of intense concern for both progressives who monitor right-wing figures and for Republicans who support gay rights. Most recently, when the state of New York legalized same-sex marriage, Barton argued that anti-gay groups should proverbially “scalp” the four Republican state senators who had backed the bill. He added some choice words for Ken Mehlman, the former RNC Chairman turned LGBT activist, as well. Perry’s fellow Republican comrades are less than pleased with his decision to say the least. “It is unfortunate Governor Perry decided to turn to a big government, anti-conservative position by signing the National Organization for Marriage’s pledge,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans. “This pledge is out of step with America and the general electorate the GOP needs to win the White House.” Translation: “This mickiefickie is gonna F up our chances of winning this election by pissing off all the voting fa-, er…homosexuals.” SMH Source
Unfortunately, we thought this may happen… A 7-month-old baby boy who was tossed from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure died Wednesday, the same day his mother made an initial court appearance on charges of attempted murder and felony child abuse, a police spokesman said. The child died Wednesday morning at the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center and charges against the mother, Sonia Hermosillo, 31, will be upgraded to murder, said Sgt. Dan Adams, spokesman for the Orange Police Department. Prosecutors allege that Hermosillo removed a helmet that her son wore for a medical condition before tossing him from the parking structure at Children’s Hospital of Orange County late Monday. She then went back inside the hospital to validate her parking, senior deputy district attorney Scott Simmons said after Hermosillo’s hearing. Hermosillo’s husband, Noe Medina, told The Orange County Register in an interview Tuesday that his wife had been hospitalized for postpartum depression in June after she said she didn’t want their son, Noe Medina Jr., who was diagnosed with congenital muscular torticollis — a twisting of the neck to one side. According to Medina: “She didn’t look at our son as normal,” Medina said. “She didn’t accept him. She didn’t accept that he was like this.” R.I.P. to the baby, and a speedy trial to his piece-of-isht mother… Source
Football season is right around the corner, which means one thing: cheerleaders! Okay, yeah, there’s football itself, but that’s not important. While we’re off enjoying the ladies of the pigskin on Sundays, we should also remember some stars that used to cheer back in their heydays. Some just might surprise you.
