White Women Use Make Up To Imitate Winnie Harlow’s Vitiligo Canadian model Winnie Harlow has started an online debate about blackface after a group of white women thought it was necessary to use dark make up to imitate her skin disease… Via EOnline : Harlow—who competed in Cycle 21 of America’s Next Top Model under the name Chantelle Brown-Young—has a skin condition called vitiligo, which causes loss of color in blotches. After placing fifth in Tyra Banks’ reality competition series, Harlow, 21, booked campaigns with Desigual and Diesel. She currently appears on Ebony’s September cover with fellow America’s Next Top Model aluma Fatima Siad, plus Samantha Archibald, Milan Dixon, Diandra Forrest and Marquita Pring. As Harlow makes a name for herself in the fashion industry, some people have attempted to copy her skin condition in an effort to tribute to her. The fans, some of them Caucasian, have applied makeup to look more like Harlow. However, some critics have argued that what fans are really doing is putting on blackface. Amid controversy, Harlow released a statement via Instagram. “My response to this is probably not what a lot of people want but here it goes: every time someone wants fuller lips, or a bigger bum, or curly hair, or braids does Not mean our culture is being stolen. Have you ever stop to realize these things used to be ridiculed and now they’re loved and lusted over. No one wants to “steal” our look here. We’ve just stood so confidently in our own nappy hair and du-rags and big asses (or in this case, my skin) that now those who don’t have it love and lust after it. Just because a black girl wears blue contacts and long weave doesn’t mean she wants to be white and just because a white girl wears braids and gets lip injection doesn’t mean she wants to be black. Ex-Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Charges Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesman , is expected to plead guilty to possession of child pornography charges, according to WXIN. Via Q13 Fox : Sources say Fogle will accept a plea deal. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will hold a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the deal and charges against Fogle. The charges come after federal agents raided Fogle’s home in early July. FBI sources said investigators were serving warrants at his home in connection with a child pornography investigation. Several computers and DVDs were seized from Fogle’s home. Earlier this year, Taylor, the former director of the Jared Foundation started by Fogle, was arrested in a child pornography case. He was accused of possessing and producing child pornography. Investigators said a search of Taylor’s home turned up more than 500 videos with images of child pornography. In May, Taylor unsuccessfully tried to kill himself while in jail. Fogle gained national fame after attributing massive weight loss to eating Subway sandwiches. He was a freshman at Indiana University at the time. He later became a visible presence in Subway ad campaigns, pitching the restaurant’s sandwiches and touting their health benefits. Subway suspended their relationship with the spokesman shortly after the raid. Looks like Subway will be looking for a new spokesperson very soon!

Missing Transgender Woman Elisha Walker Found Dead In Crude Grave The body of Elisha Walker, a 20-year-old transgender woman who had been missing for almost a year , was found in a “crude grave” in Johnston County, North Carolina. According to advocates and local media, the discovery was made more than 100 miles from Walker’s home in Salisbury, North Carolina. Via Raw Story : A Latin Kings gang member, Angel Dejesus Arias, 23, was arrested and charged with killing Walker and stealing her car, reports said on Thursday. He was being held without bond. Amid reports from Detroit, Texas and Phoenix of the deaths of three more black, transgender women, some observers have placed the number of transgender women killed this year at 16. In a statement, transgender Human Rights Campaign staff member Laya Monarez said: “Even as we are seeing an increase in transgender visibility through a range of inspiring national media stories, including Caitlyn Jenner’s, the levels of violence and harassment transgender people face – particularly transgender women and transgender women of color – constitute a national crisis .” This week, Texas police announced an investigation into the death of 22-year-old Shade Schuler, whose body was found badly decomposed in a field in Dallas. It took almost three weeks to identify her remains. Activists in Michigan were also asking for help from Detroit law enforcement, after 20-year-old Amber Monroe was shot and killed in a city park. She was the fifth transgender woman to be killed in Palmer Park since 2014. In Phoenix on Tuesday night a 35-year-old transgender woman, Kandis Capri, was shot dead. Walker was reported missing in November 2014, after her family had not heard from her since 24 October, the Salisbury Post reported. Police gave local media information about Walker’s disappearance in an effort to generate leads, but few were forthcoming until Walker’s burnt-out 2000 Pontiac Sunfire was discovered in an open field in Sampson County, police said in a release. Arias had lived in a house in Salisbury that Walker was known to frequent, before moving to Johnston County, more than 100 miles away, where he was arrested on unrelated drug charges. Rowan County police obtained a search warrant for a Johnston County house, they said. They discovered Walker’s body in a “small depression” behind it. Arias will not face hate crimes charges over Walker’s death. North Carolina does not have a hate crimes statute. Should trans people be protected under the hate crimes statute as well??

Carrier Pigeon Caught Trying To Smuggle Drugs Into Prison Prison guards in Costa Rica caught a pigeon with a bag of drugs attached to its chest in a bizarre attempt to smuggle drugs to inmates. Via Boston News Times : Officers at La Reforma prison captured it with 14g of cocaine and 14g of cannabis stuffed into a black pouch which camouflaged against its dark feathers. They have previously caught other animals such as cats and iguanas trying to transport drugs into the prison in San Rafael de Alajuela, local websites have reported. The guards spotted the bird on Tuesday afternoon as it flew towards an open area of the medium security La Reforma prison, Teletica reported. Prison director Paul Bertozzi said: ‘They observed the bulge on the animal so they captured it and confirmed that it carried a bag with zipper – and the drugs were inside… It seems the dove was trained for it.’ The pigeon was examined by experts at the ZooAve Animal Rescue Centre who said the bag it was carrying caused some damage to its digestive system. Reports from Costa Rica suggest it will be kept in quarantine for at least 40 days because they believe it will return to where it came from if they release it. The head of the centre was ‘stunned’ by the incident and said it would be well looked after at the centre. The prison is now investigating who was responsible for the drug-smuggling attempt. Paul Bertozzi added: ‘We have a warning that this method can be used again as it is not the first time in the history of La Reforma that a pigeon was detected with drugs.’ Move that dope by any means necessary!
