Changes to my Blogroll with a short explanation.

It is with a heavy heart that I remove Bree Palin from my blogroll. As many of you know Bree has closed down her site and is working on a big project that requires her full attention. She did NOT get chased off or threatened (as was the case with Audrey) so do not worry about her. Bree became one of my confidants and we e-mailed each other and shared information often. (I shared the picture of the ruffled ear baby with her at least two months before I posted it. THAT is how much I trusted her!) I will very much miss seeing her blog on the left side of my page when I log onto my computer every morning. And I am confident most of you will too. As for the second change to my blogroll the reasons are entirely different. For many months now I have been receiving complaints about one of the contributors to this site. From accusations that they were passing themselves off as an Alaskan blogger, to charges that they were harassing people, to their habit of leaving comments on other blogger’s sites in an attempt to hijack the thread, the complaints have numbered at least one or two a week for months now. Yet I have resisted taking them off my blogroll because they have done some fine work and I like having as many people working on revealing Palin’s lies as possible. But yesterday was the final straw. I learned yesterday that threats were made to one of my very best friends. The threat was not physical but it was a hurtful attempt to get undeserved credit for their hard work. For me that was it! The reason that I have received so many complaints is because there has been an assumption that I support this site and that we are working together. We are not! Developing trust on the blogosphere is very tricky indeed. There are a lot of people who say they are your friend and then stab you in the back. I have been blessed with some of the best friends that you can imagine (and yes Bree is one of them), but this person betrayed my trust a very long time ago and, though they were on my blogroll, they were never in my confidence. Now I am certainly not telling anybody WHO they should visit on the internet and I hope that you continue to give them your support if you like their work, but I will no longer be allowing any comments which link to them or talk about stories on their site to be posted in my comments section. And before this person decides on retaliation for my decision, I would remind them that I did NOT mention them by name, and that I left out a ton of details that I am sure they do not want revealed. I know this will upset and confuse a number of you and I apologize, I hope that you trust I did not make this decision lightly and that it is one which is long overdue. I will not be adding any more clarification to this post so please do not ask for it. Now that this unsavory business is behind us I need to focus on interviews for next week’s stories. Happy surfing my friends! The quest continues.

Republican party admits manipulating its donors into giving more money.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Oh give me a fucking break! Michael Steele is not upset that his party uses these tactics to raise money. He is upset that the press found out about it. The GOP has been using this practice for years. Whether it be gay rights, abortion rights, or fear of terrorism, these assholes have no problem scaring the ignorant people who still support their broken party into smashing open their piggy banks and sending them their hard earned money. Hey simply frighten their constituents into curling up in the fetal position and then pick their pockets while they are too frightened to resist. Even ex-Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean is stunned at the lack of respect the GOP demonstrates toward it’s own donors. Moore Up North for February 27, 2010.

Part One For those of you who have been following the Alaska blogs for awhile this may be the first time that you will get a chance to see and hear Ann Strongheart who created the Anonymous Bloggers site over to the left on my blogroll. She gave many people their first glimpse into what life in rural Alaska is all about. And as many Mudpuppies know all too well she also provided information about how the villages that were so terribly affected by the cold snap and lack of fuel last year responded to the donations that many of you sent. Part Two This panel of Alaska’s first people helps those of us living in cities and outside of Alaska a real understanding of what it means to live a “subsistence” lifestyle. Part Three Part Four Part Five

Liberals have higher IQ’s than conservatives. Yeah like I needed a study to tell me that!

Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly. The IQ differences, while statistically significant, are not stunning — on the order of 6 to 11 points — and the data should not be used to stereotype or make assumptions about people, experts say. But they show how certain patterns of identifying with particular ideologies develop, and how some people’s behaviors come to be. Well that is very satisfying to read now isn’t it? So what about religion? Religion, the current theory goes, did not help people survive or reproduce necessarily, but goes along the lines of helping people to be paranoid, Kanazawa said. Assuming that, for example, a noise in the distance is a signal of a threat helped early humans to prepare in case of danger. “It helps life to be paranoid, and because humans are paranoid, they become more religious, and they see the hands of God everywhere,” Kanazawa said. Participants who said they were atheists had an average IQ of 103 in adolescence, while adults who said they were religious averaged 97, the study found. Atheism “allows someone to move forward and speculate on life without any concern for the dogmatic structure of a religion,” Bailey said. “Historically, anything that’s new and different can be seen as a threat in terms of the religious beliefs; almost all religious systems are about permanence,” he noted. Seeing things that are new and different as a threat may have much to do with why many conservatives are so freaked out by having Obama in the White House. I do have to disagree with one point made in this article. I have read extensively about the origins and purpose of religion, and have come to believe that it DID play a significant role in the survival and dominance of humankind. The idea of religion provided people with the belief that they were entitled to the rewards found on this planet, and that other creatures, or even fellow humans of a different ethnicity or faith, were not favored by their God(s) and therefore less worthy of survival. This feeling of exclusivity kept early humans in closely knit groups which were more than willing to fight and die for their tribe and their God(s). It also impacted reproduction in that many religions contain very strong language encouraging large families and instructing followers to only mate with other members of their faith. In terms of competition for food and the ability to defend themselves, having larger numbers served to ensure the survival of people, and the religion provided a conduit through which they all felt connected. Religion also promised rewards in the afterlife for those who died protecting those who shared their faith making it easier to find warriors willing to sacrifice their life for the good of those in their religious community. Other than that small disagreement I find this study to fall right in line with many of the opinions that I have formed over the years.

Sarah Palin responds to questions about Teabaggers whilst standing in a Wasilla Winter Wonderland and giving the ghost of Ronald Reagan a handjob.

To paraphrase Reagan a little “There both EASY candidates, and SIMPLE candidates, and I stand before you as both”. Nice to know that if you are NOT a Teabagger you don’t believe in freedom. So I guess freedom from joining a particular movement is not an AMERICAN freedom. Good to know. I should probably write that down. Can I borrow your hand Sarah? “Take over the Republican party Tea Partiers!” Because you know nothing says “democracy” like a hostile take over of a political organization. I do like one of her often repeated statements however “Hey bottom line, we win, you lose.” Perhaps somebody needs to remind her that in the last election Obama won, and she and her and her creepy old uncle lost. And the reason they lost is because when the Republican were in power they damn near destroyed the very foundation of our country. And THAT by the way is what the Teabaggers are really pissed off about, which they could see if they could stop focusing for a minute on the fact that President Obama is a black guy. Does anybody else think that Plain looks a little high strung and agitated? Gee I wonder what could possibly be bothering her? By the way there is really not that much of a delay between the question and the answer when being interviewed in Alaska from the lower forty eight. However if Palin has not had time to write the answers on her hands it takes her an extra few seconds to decide which memorized conservative talking point to vomit forth. “Less taxes!” “Freedom!” “Smaller government!” And if she can’t come up with anything she just licks her botox deadened lips and whispers “Reagan”. That is political porn to the viewers of Fox News.

You just have to take a moment to read this Phil Perrier piece on Palin from the Huffington Post. This is laugh out loud funny!

And lets face it, Sarah Palin is a gossip columnist’s dream. At first blush she came across as a Christian “family values” no-nonsense conservative. Then, the press started poking around and found delightful amounts of nonsense in Sarah’s closets. What ensued was the veritable Jerry Springer episode that is the Palin family; Bristol, the 17 year old pregnant daughter, Levi, the dimwitted yet hunky father of the Love Spawn, Trig, the baby with Down’s Syndrome, and Sarah’s husband, a man who has displayed less personality than a bowl of moose stew. And it got better, Levi posed for Playgirl magazine, his mom got arrested for selling prescription meds, while Sarah and Bristol and Levi tossed verbal grenades through the press at every turn. Forget running for president, this smells like a damn compelling reality show on Bravo! The Kardashians look like Ozzie and Harriet compared to the Palins. It’s perfect, a horribly dysfunctional, morally bankrupt, greedy, fame-obsessed, Christian conservative family, with guns! Sign me up! (You can read the rest of this wonderful post by clicking the title at the top of the page.) The only problem with Sarah Palin’s reality show is that it is happening in MY reality. Here is perhaps my favorite line from the post. This woman has a persecution complex you could drive a truck through. Amen to that, Mr. Perrier, Amen to that!
