Woman Brags About Dog Killing on Facebook, Gets Arrested for Horrific Crime

Well, this is about as awful as it gets. A St. Louis woman named Adrienne Martin has been arrested after setting fire to a three-year old dog and bragging about the killing on Facebook. The charred shepherd-terrier (named Brownie) was discovered by its owner on July 10, a day after Martin took to Facebook and wrote message that included “I’m on killa mode… #killdogs.com.” It is believed the canine – who was taken to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for medical treatment, but died from organ failure – belonged to Martin’s sister. “When I got the call he passed away, all I could do was cry and then pray for the strength to make sure justice is served,” said Randy Grim , founder of Stray Rescue. “This is one of the saddest and worst cases I have ever dealt with.” After initially denying the crime, Martin admitted it to police. She has a criminal history and was previously charged with endangering the welfare of a child. In this case, Martin faces counts of felony animal abuse and the felony of “knowingly burning” an animal.

Happy 49th Birthday, Sandra Bullock!

Sandra Bullock turns 49 years young on Friday. Given her looks, positive attitude, sense of humor, approachability and infectiously endearing personality, it’s no wonder she’s become known as America’s Sweetheart. After winning an Academy Award for The Blind Side and being blindsided by Jesse James, Bullock took time off to focus on a much more important role: Mother to adopted son Louis Bardot. She’s returned to acting with some memorable recent roles (most recently The Heat ), and continues to prove she can be as versatile as she is awesome. We wish her all the best personally and professionally, and can’t wait to see what the next phase of her career holds. Happy 49th birthday, Sandy! Other notable birthdays today: Helen Mirren (68), Kevin Spacey (54), Kate Beckinsale (40), Jeremy Piven (48), Chris Harrison (42) and Mick Jagger (70).

The Wolverine Reviews: Hugh Jackman Back Again! Good or Bad Idea?

Hugh Jackman returns to theaters once again as Logan, the Wolverine. It is his sixth time playing the character in both Wolverine solo outings and in the group X-Men films.  Does  The Wolverine have what it takes to justify yet another trip with the adamantium powered hero? We’ll check out what the critics say in these  The Wolverine reviews, you can compare them to both the Fruitvale Station  reviews (it opens in wide release today) and  The To-Do List reviews and make your weekend plans! In its astronomically budgeted, effects-laden way, it’s appealingly modest. And it has the glory of Hugh Jackman’s chest. — Craig Seligman,  Bloomberg News The Wolverine represents a strain of faux gravitas that squeezes nearly all the fun out of blockbuster moviemaking. Here we have multimillion-dollar proof that slow and unsure can be just as dull as hyperkinetic chaos. — Chris Vognar,  Dallas Morning News Although The Wolverine eventually falls back on a comic-book formula and CG effects (the climactic face-off between Logan and a giant silver warriorlike thing is totally generic), Mangold and his team find time to explore more nuanced realms … — Steven Rea,  Philadephia Inquirer   A refreshing summer cocktail of action-movie staples, The Wolverine combines the bracingly adult flavor of everyone’s favorite mutant antihero with the fizzy effervescence of several mixers from the cabinet of Japanese genre cinema. — Michael O’Sullivan,  Washington Post This is a serious, sometimes dark and deliberately paced story. — Richard Roeper,  RichardRoeper.com A handful of bold ideas brought down by the need to regress to a blander, more box-office-friendly middle ground. — Ian Buckwalter,  NPR

Indifferent Cat Greets Owner After Six Months Apart

Forget McKalyla Maroney and Robinson Cano for a moment. The cat in the following video is particularly unimpressed. Even after not seeing his owner for six months. Indeed, felines don’t exactly share the same bond with their masters as canines. It’s not a judgment. It’s just a fact, as evidenced below. Watch now and remember: There’s probably a dog somewhere that could use a rescue! Cat Greets Owner

Ian Somerhalder and Garrett Hedlund: OUT of Fifty Shades of Grey Running

It’s still to be determined who will play Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie, but it’s reportedly become clear who will not be cast: Ian Somerhalder and Garrett Hedlund are both out of the running, according to insiders, along with Stephen Amell , narrowing the list of candidates. Hedlund, 28, was reportedly approached about playing the S&M-obsessed lead in the film version of E.L. James’ erotic novel, but turned it down . “Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producers wouldn’t let him do just one film,” says the source of Kirsten Dunst’s boyfriend. Ian Somerhalder, 34, is out too – though he openly coveted the part. The “phenomenal opportunity” he lobbied for won’t be his for the taking. A source says “E.L. said at a Comic-Con party [that] the part won’t go to Ian.” Both The Vampire Diaries star and Garrett Hedlund have been popular picks in the online fantasy casting game that’s gone on for a year, but alas. The only major casting decision for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, so far, has been the director. James confirmed that Sam Taylor-Johnson will helm the film. As for the two leads, they’re still TBA, and until we have official confirmation, everything is conjecture. So we toss the question over to you once again: Who do you think would be the perfect Christian Grey?   Ian Somerhalder Alex Pettyfer Stephen Amell Matt Bomer Ryan Gosling Ryan Phillippe Alexander Skarsgard Henry Cavill Chris Evans Tom Hardy Chris Pine Garrett Hedlund Other (Cite in Comments) View Poll »

Ian Somerhalder Offers Fan Nina Dobrev’s Phone Number at Comic-Con

Ian Somerhalder offered a fan Nina Dobrev’s phone number at Comic-Con yesterday in what could best be described as an awkward moment. The two co-stars appeared at the annual San Diego pop culture extravaganza for a panel Q&A discussion to promote The Vampire Diaries Season 5 . Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev , who dated in real life but broke up earlier this year, have remained cordial and professional by all accounts. That doesn’t mean things aren’t weird at times, however. At one point, Nina joked in response to a question, “Is there anyone Elena hasn’t made out with?” when an audience member shouted “Me!” Ian replied, “Give me your number. I’ll set you up.” He was joking … we think. Maybe it was just a misfired joke, as Ian is known to produce, or a product of the TVD cast working very late Friday night in Atlanta before  flying in. At the same time, Somerhalder’s comment came after the pair attempted to avoid one another in the press room. According to an E! News source: “Ian showed up and Nina showed up shortly after.” “She saw Ian was right in front of her and went away, then came back a little later so they were spaced out a bit more during press-line interviews.” They could have been spaced out by coincidence, or because they were being interviewed by different outlets … but it does make you wonder.
