It turns out Peter Jackson hasn’t run out of dwarves . Over the weekend, TheOneRing.net revealed a picture of the thirteenth Hobbit dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin is important for multiple reasons: he’s the dwarf leader, he’s carrying something called “Orcrist, the Goblin Cleaver,” and he’s played by moderately famous actor Richard Armitage. Bona fides! Bill Maher is rarely afraid to speak his mind. The comedian lost his ABC program, Politically Incorrect , in 2002 when he said Americans were “cowards” for “lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away,” while the terrorists on board the 9/11 planes were “not cowardly.” Now, the talk show host is creating a scandalous stir once again. On HBO’s Real Time Friday night, Maher compared the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial to “Republican thinking.” His reasoning? Bill Maher Compares Republicans to Casey Anthony Jurors “[Half of American voters] say ‘I’m with the party that cuts all these programs for real people, for the 99 percent. Planned Parenthood, environmental protection, college, health care, infrastructure, but holds the line on private jets.’ Voting for them is as stupid as voting not guilty for the mom who lost her baby for a month and went looking at a wet t-shirt contest… “Yes, Republican base, you are just like that jury. It’s pathetically clear who’s killing the middle class but you keep letting them get away with murder..” Watch the full monologue above and decide: Did Maher go too far?

No offense to David Slade or Robert Schwentke , but this is how you get a fanbase excited again for The Wolverine : Over the weekend in London, Source Code director Duncan Jones said he has met with Twentieth Century Fox about replacing Darren Aronofsky at the helm of the Adamantium-covered next chapter in the X-Men franchise. Whether he takes over, however, remains to be seen.
Over the weekend, Your Highness , to put it bluntly, tanked. With a budget somewhere in the range of $50 million and a recent Oscar winner and Oscar nominee headlining the cast (to say nothing of Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green behind the camera), the Universal comedy couldn’t do better than a sixth-place finish. Couple that with terrible reviews, and you’ve got yourself a nice little disaster. But what will be the fallout to the major players involved? Let’s take a look.
Happy Monday! Now that we’ve all sprung forward, it’s time to address one of the weekend’s other primary cultural matters: Battle: Los Angeles . The number-one movie in America was also one of the most critically reviled of the year — from Movieline’s own Michelle Orange to Roger Ebert , opinions on this ranged from generally disapproving to bitterly angry. But that was before you saw it.
