In Irrelevant White Folks News: William And Kate’s Royal Wedding Will Benefit 26 Charities

Despite the fact that our country and theirs just spearheaded another war, the upcoming British Royal Wedding we can’t imagine too many people really caring about keeps getting headlines. And here’s one that’s actually kinda cool and overflowing with “positivity.” According to Reuters, Prince William and fiancee Kate (or Catherine, as she prefers) Middleton have set up the Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund, asking well-wishers to donate money to charities they care about instead of gifts. The couple have chosen five causes — Changing Lives through Arts and Sport; Children Fulfilling Their Potential; Help and Care at Home; Support for Service Personnel and Their Families; and Conservation for Future Generations — and 26 charities that fall into one of these categories to receive a portion of the funds raised. Since there are so many charities to choose from, the couple aimed to select charities that are not as well-known but doing important work in line with their passions, the fund’s website explains: “These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far.” Several of the charities are based in Canada, Australia and New Zealand where William has focused some of his charitable efforts over the years. The only U.S.-based group selected is PeacePlayers International’s program in Northern Ireland, which was founded ten years ago by Washington residents Brendan and Sean Touhey to get kids together in conflict-torn areas through basketball. In related royal wedding charitable news, Kate Middleton’s infamous see-through dress she wore at a charitable fashion show in college, which reportedly first caught the eye of her prince, sold for more than $125,000 at auction to an unnamed buyer. It went for 10 times what it was initially expected to bring in. Hmmm. Did THAT $125K go to charity too? SMH. Do you think this royal wedding is as big a deal and Prince Charles & Diana’s wedding? As recently as this spring, Ryan Phillippe said he was still sad over his divorce from Reese Witherspoon. But the actor has taken the high, mature road when it comes to his ex-wife’s recent engagement , telling The New York Daily News : “I’m very happy for both Reese and Jim. I wish nothing but the best for the mother of my children.” Phillippe and Witherspoon have two children together. They divorced in 2008 amidst rumors that he cheated on her with Abbie Cornish, with whom Ryan then carried on a relationship for many months. He’s now single.

Spotted: Brangelina in … Missouri!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are always on the move. Their latest stop? Pitt’s hometown of Springfield, Mo., where they spread good cheer … and money. Just days after celebrating Christmas in Namibia , the couple made a brief stopover at the St. John’s Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center in Springfield, Mo. That’s the place where Brad grew up. “They called a little bit ahead, about an hour ahead, and requested to tour the pediatric center,” hospital spokesperson Cora Scott said on Thursday . “They stayed about 45 minutes. It was a very nice visit.” Pitt and Jolie, along with Pitt’s brother and sister and their families, donated $1 million to St. John’s Foundation for Community Health just last year. They dedicated a pediatric cancer center to Pitt’s mom. “Jane Pitt is a gem in our community,” Scott said. “She’s a very wonderful woman who cares so very much about the well being of children.” During the brief visit Wednesday, the Hollywood A-list couple were accompanied by both of Brad Pitt’s parents along with his brother Doug. Pitt and Jolie didn’t mention New Year’s plans, but for now it seems that the couple and their kids are spending time with extended family. No mention of their recent wedding either … SHOCKING.
