House of Cards actress Elizabeth Norment has passed away at the age of 61. She died October 13 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, according to her family. Further details about her death are not yet known. Norment’s character Nancy worked under Frank Underwood, the dynamic main character played by Kevin Spacey on the acclaimed political drama. Nancy remained loyal to Underwood and his right-hand man Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), following Frank from the U.S. House to the West Wing. House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon mourned Norment’s loss. He said that he and the cast ” deeply saddened by Elizabeth’s passing .” Willimon added: “She was a talented actress, a warm soul and good friend to us all.” Norment’s career as an actress spanned over three decades. The Washington D.C. native studied at the Yale School of Drama, and appeared on TV shows like ER and Mad About You . Elizabeth also had roles in movies like The Woman in Red (1984) and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997) and Robert Kennedy and His Times (1985). We assume you’re already aware, because despite the fact that Kaley signed a $90 million contract for three more seasons of The Big Bang Theory she’s still just as famous for her Instagram as she is for her acting. And her Instagram is Dog City. Which is cool. Kaley’s an animal lover in general, and she’s done some great work with conservationist organizations, but sometimes she goes a little overboard with her pet love. Yeah, she went there. Just one day after Jessa Duggar bashed evolution and atheism on Instagram, she returned to the social media site to express an even more controversial view. Jessa, 21, and fiance Ben Seewald , 19, are in DC at the moment, and according to her page they recently paid a visit to the US Holocaust Museum. The future Mrs. Seewald was clearly moved by the experience, and with good reason. The museum brings to vivid life one of the most horrific tragedies in human history. Unfortunately, and all too predictably, the emotions that Jessa experienced at the museum inspired an lengthy, impassioned defense of her various political causes and religious convictions. None of which – at least as most people probably see it – have anything to do with the millions of lives lost in concentration camps in Europe during WWII. A social media uproar was sparked this week by a skinny Gap model. We’re not talking your generic skinny model, either. This woman is … well, she’s really thin. The clothing brand Tweeted out this photo of the woman modeling a plaid green shirt-dress with the caption, “Dress up your days in pastel plaid #since1969”: The lighting and background don’t help, but followers immediately began criticizing the model’s weight and what message the company was sending. One wrote, “Seriously, @Gap? In what world do people look like this? Perhaps you could select models who represent regular gals & not a skeletor ghost.” In response, the company issued a statement to media outlets: “Our intentions have always been to celebrate diversity in our marketing and champion people for who they are,” Gap Inc. spokesperson Edie Kissko said in response. “Upon reflection, we understand the sensitivity surrounding this photo. Customer feedback is important to us and we think this is a valuable conversation to learn from.” Meanwhile, others began “skinny-shaming” the model , saying she “looks like she needs a hamburger and some sunlight,” which led to some reverse backlash. One defender of the Tweet stated that while the photo looked severe, his wife is incredibly thin and is often the subject of ridicule because of her body. He said that his spouse does not have an eating disorder but this is often assumed for no reason, leaving her subject to body image issues. It’s an interesting point. While fat-shaming is of course more common, as we’ve seen with Kate Middleton (below), a woman can be naturally slender and subject to scrutiny as well.
