2012 Grammy Winners Revealed … Probably

We take a look at both the ‘actual’ and ‘bizarro’ Grammys (and try to pick some winners) in Bigger Than The Sound. By James Montgomery Adele Photo: Getty Images Last year, when the Arcade Fire shocked everybody (especially Dog the Bounty Hunter ) by winning Album of the Year at the Grammys, it set in motion a chain of events that culminated in one rather troubling realization: Perhaps everything has changed. I say troubling because, really, the Grammys have never been cool (and there is something like five decades of empirical evidence to back up that claim), and voters bestowing the night’s top award on an indie act — instead of Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, each of whom were also nominated — was a hip, hip move. So it stood to reason that, if one of the stuffiest of award shows could get with the times, then perhaps everyone could. Perhaps the Arcade Fire’s AOTY win fractured the space-time continuum itself, sort of like on “Lost,” when Benjamin Linus turned that wheel and the island started skipping through time and there were actually two islands, one existing in current time and one that was stuck in the 1970s, and that old woman had a pendulum and Jack ended up detonating a hydrogen bomb with a rock or something (“Lost” definitely got confusing for a while there). What I am trying to say is that it is not entirely inconceivable that, post Arcade Fire, there now exist two Grammy Awards: the one where Led Zeppelin has zero wins (but Sheryl Crow has nine ) and the one where cool bands take home the biggest awards. You know, the actual Grammys versus the bizarro Grammys. It’s an insane theory, yes, and yet, it is also (sort of) backed up by this year’s Grammy nominations. In actuality — given she had one of the best-selling albums of the past decade and almost single-handedly saved the industry in 2011 — Adele is not only one of the night’s most-nominated artists, but she’ll probably end up walking away with the most golden gramophones, too. In fantasy, Bon Iver stuns the Dog the Bounty Hunters of the world and takes home three-quarters of the “Big Four” awards. In the grand cosmic scheme of things, I suppose either is probable. Shoot, at the very least, the theory makes the Grammys a lot more interesting … and impossible to predict. Still, I’m going to try my best. So here are my theoretical picks for the 54th Grammy Awards, where I’ve weighed the actual against the bizarro in a misguided attempt to predict just who will triumph in the night’s biggest categories. Hey, it’s better than just saying “Adele is gonna win everything.” Even though she probably will. It is just a theory, after all. Album of the Year

Pop Culture Moment #1: Chappelle’s Show Premieres

Read more here:

On January 22, 2003 Black television changed forever. Comedian Dave Chappelle premiered his late night sketch comedy show on Comedy Central filling a void in late night television that had been vacated by the likes of “The Aresenio Hall Show” and  “In Living Color.” But Dave’s irreverent humor was in a class all its own. Fact: The Clayton Bigsby character was based on Dave’s own grandfather The D.C native’s affinity for hip-hop and fearless approach to sensitive topics made him an instant hit. Whether it was “The Racial Draft” where Tiger Woods became Black or the classic Charlie Murphy’s Truth Hollywood Stories with the late Rick James Chappelle took made sketch comedy feel like oral history. In fact, mere phrases from the show (“I’m Rick James, bitch!” ) have become ubiquitous, embedding themselves into the American lexicon. Add performances from some of hip-hops best like Kanye West, Erykah Badu and Snoop and Chappelle’s Show was must-see TV. Sales of season 1 and 2 on DVD made it one of the most successful of all time, beating out The Simpsons in 2005. Unfortunately, Chappelle would take his talents back to Ohio and Season 3 never officially materialized. Fans still pine away for the return of Chappelle to TV and Chris Rock recently hinted that the two may tour together.  In any respect we need him back. “He was the new generation Eddie Murphy,” says DJ Rob Flow , who walked away with a jar or Pomade and a pack of Newports after winning the “I Know Black People” contest on Chappelle. “Every generation has a black comedian that expresses a particular type of angle on the culture. In ’70s we had Richard Pryor. ’80s we had Eddie Murphy. He was definitely a part of hip-hop culture and he loved conscious artists. He was important to the culture for that.  He ended up really pushing the racial lines and that’s what freaked everybody out. It got really popular and he realized white people aren’t laughing with us.  That’s my theory. I think that’s why he left. But he needs to come back and finish the thought. Get white people to laugh with us, not at us.” Chappelles Show True Hollywood Stories – Rick James Pt. 1 www.comedycentral.com Buy Chappelle’s Show DVDs Black Comedy True Hollywood Story Throughout the month of February TheUrbanDaily.com will be celebrating 25 of the biggest  moments in pop culture, sponsored by Gillette .

Rose McGowan….you’ve got a bad attitude….if you really hated the paparazzi…why the fuck don’t you live in Canada…or somewhere less Hollywood….giving them the finger…is mean. The paparazzi are classy immigrants just trying to live the American dream…one creppy photo at a time…there’s no need to get pissed off…it’s not like they are hiding in your closet or on your fire escape or going through your garbage…but that may be because you haven’t been in a movie in a long time…but that’s no reason to be a jerk…it’s not their fault you’ve changed your face since your car accident or that you broke up with the director future husband who always cast you…and the real issue in all this is why won’t you add me as a facebook friend….cuz I still find you hotness…funny lips and botox or not….you still have great tits…even if you have a bad bratty attitude… Yes..I just wrote a post as a letter to Rose McGowan…and no I’m not humilated by it…cuz I have no shame…

Selena Gomez’s Ass Goes Grocery Shopping of the Day

Some of the hottest pussy goes through the grocery store…my theory is that it is because we all have to eat…even the anorexics….cuz otherwise we’d die…making the grocery store the second best place to loiter besides the liquor store when they are handing out samples… Either way, it’s a great place for hot moms, single girls on their way home from the gym buying bananas for what I can only assume is the nights nutritious entertainment when done entertaining….but more importantly it’s a great place for teenage girls and sex offenders…or in Selena Gomez’s case…Teenage girls who are sex offenders… Here’s her young slutty booty…with her woman…

Robert Pattinson Debuts Buzz Cut Accepting People’s Choice Award

‘Water for Elephants’ actor accepts Favorite Drama Movie award in button-up and jeans. By James Dinh Robert Pattinson wins Favorite Drama Movie at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards Photo: Getty Images Winning awards isn’t anything new to Robert Pattinson — especially for his role in the “Twilight” franchise. But fans saw the actor in a brand-new light at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 11) when he accepted an award for his film “Water for Elephants” and showed off his new buzz-cut hairdo. Pattinson appeared casually made his way to the stage in a simple button-up shirt and jeans to accept the Favorite Drama Movie award from Zachary Levi and “Twilight” co-star Ashley Greene. Even without his shaggy, long locks, Pattinson received a standing ovation. “Woah. Thank you very much. I don’t know why they asked me to accept it because it’s really a lot of other people as well,” he chuckled over an echo of screams from the audience. “When I was doing this movie, I was having so much fun doing it that I was saying to everyone I didn’t even care if anyone saw it. But now that people have seen it and they’re giving awards for it, I’m even more thankful for the whole experience, so thank you guys very much.” “Water for Elephants” beat out “The Adjustment Bureau,” “The Help,” “Limitless” and “Moneyball.” Now Pattinson’s love for “Elephants” isn’t exactly a secret. Shortly before it hit theaters last April, MTV News spoke with the box-office heartthrob about his appreciation for the film. “It felt like it was kind of magical in many ways, because we were out in the desert shooting,” he said. “There was nothing from the modern world around. It was a different experience for me. It wasn’t in a studio or anything.” What do you think of Robert’s buzz cut? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
