Flag On The Play: Virginia Restaurant Uses Colin Kaepernick’s 49ers Jersey As A Door Mat

Virginia Restaurant Uses Kapernick’s Jersey As A Door Mat 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has made plenty of admirers and haters after refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance during NFL games. One Virginia Beach restaurant has declared war on the athlete by using his jersey as a foot mat for patrons to rub their dirty shoes when entering the eatery. A Black patron first noted the disrespectful deed on Facebook: Customer James Perry brought light to the restaurant’s foul by saying: “Racism is real people and yes this is a racist act…an overall disgusting one!!!” Do you think the VA restaurant is just exercising its free speech like Colin or guilty of racism like the customer claims? Denzel Washington Slams Meme, Needs to Lighten Up

Turns out, there's one thing Denzel Washington can do even better than act. And that is this: Not possess a sense of humor. The Oscar-winning actor sat down for an interview this week alongside director Antoine Fuqua, the man behind the camera for Denzel's next film, The Magnificent Seven. It opens on September 23. In the following clip, Washington is asked about the meme that spread around the Internet last year after Washington showed up for the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao boxing match with quite an impressive mustache. He was also wearing the sort of track suit one would not expect to see on Denzel Washington. You remember that meme, right? Here is one example of it: And here is another: And here is another: Pretty funny, right? Not to Denzel. When asked for his thoughts on the meme, Washington replied as follows: “If I had my wallet, I’d show it to you. Because they didn’t know what I was doing. They don’t need to know.” We're not entirely sure what the first part of that statement means. But Denzel was NOT smiling when he uttered it. The mustache was for this role in The Magnificent Seven, which Washington then used as a platform to sit down and preach. “Those who can, do. Those who can’t , talk about those who can ,” he said. “Are you just one that sits on the sideline to talk about other people, or can you step up?” He was so proud of this statement that he said it twice to the interviewer, just to make sure he got it all in order to Tweet it to his followers. Sheesh! Sorry, Denzel. Sorry we tried to have a bit of fun with your facial hair. We'll never make that mistake again and we'll take a long, hard look in the mirror in order to reassess our life. We'll do our best to be ones who can . Thank you so much for these sage words. Watch the exchange below:

SMH: Ferguson Activist Darren Seals Found Shot To Death Inside Burning Vehicle

Darren Seals Found Murdered In St. Louis Sad news coming out of Missouri, as one activist on the front lines of Ferguson has been found murdered. Via STLamerican : A locally known Ferguson activist who protested in the streets seeking justice for Michael Brown Jr.’s death was killed early Tuesday, September 6 in North St. Louis County. Darren Seals, 29, was a factory line worker and hip-hop musician. Following the death of Mike Brown – an unarmed black teenager who was fatally shot by a white Ferguson police officer – Seals protested in the streets of Ferguson. Seals was extremely vocal about issues surrounding Brown’s death and the St. Louis region. He was featured in national news outlets such as The Washington Post and Al Jazeera. Seals recently uploaded a Facebook Live video sharing his own encounter with the Ferguson Police Department, saying police drew guns on him and his younger brother. Seals described himself on his Twitter profile as a “Businessman, Revolutionary, Activist, Unapologetically BLACK, Afrikan in AmeriKKKa, Fighter, Leader.” According to the St. Louis County Police Department, at approximately 1:50 a.m. on September 6, its Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Bomb and Arson Unit were requested to assist the City of Riverview for a vehicle fire in the 9600 block of Diamond Drive. Police say their investigation revealed that Seals suffered a gunshot wound before the car was set on fire. The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide. SMH! So sad. Now we know anything can happen to anyone when it comes to violent crime…but COME ON. Given his tendency to speak up against injustice and his activist position, it seems very likely that he specifically was targeted… But it’s far tooo early to speculate. For now, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace. Twitter

Dwyane Wade Mourns "Senseless" Death of Cousin, Calls for End to Gun Violence

Dwyane Wade is in mourning. The NBA superstar lost one of his cousins on Friday when she became a victim of crossfire on the sidewalk in Chicago. According to CNN and other outlets, Nykea Aldridge died while pushing a stroller down a South Side street when a multitude of men started shooting at each other. She was simply an innocent bystander. Tweeted Wade in response to the tragedy: “My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough.” CNN has reported that one of the bullets struck Aldridge in the head, while another hit her in an arm. She died approximately 45 minutes after the shooting at a nearby hospital. Aldridge’s aunt told an ABC affiliated that she was on her way to an elementary school when she was gunned down.  Two suspects are reportedly in custody. Wade’s mother, Jolinda Wade, spoke on behalf of the family last night while holding her inconsolable sister close outside the emergency room where Aldridge was pronounced deceased. “Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that’s going on within our city of Chicago, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it,” Jolinda Wade said. “We’re still going to try and help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction, so this thing won’t keep happening. “We’re still going to help empower people like the one who senselessly shot my niece in the head.” Chicago has been hit especially hard by violence this year. More than 2,600 people have been shot in the city, mainly on the South and West sides. In July, Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and LeBron James opened the ESPYs by standing on stage and addressing this exact topic in front of a national audience. They were responding at the time to the Black Lives Matter movement and the rash of African-American deaths at the hands of police officers. They were also responding to the misguided responses of those who attached members of law enforcement in response to these incidents. ESPYs: NBA Stars Speak on Black Lives Matter to Open Ceremony “The endless gun violence in places like Chicago, Dallas, not to mention Orlando, it has to stop. Enough. Enough is enough,” Waed said on stage. This is not the first time Wade’s family has been touched by gun violence, either. His nephew, Darin Johnson, was shot twice in the leg in 2012 but recovered. We send our thoughts, prayers and condolences to the entire Wade family at this time.
