In this week’s Hobnobbing, we offer advice for the franchise’s first outing at the big show! By Amy Wilkinson Jennifer Lawrence in “Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Come June 3, “The Hunger Games” will enter a brand-new arena: the 2012 MTV Movie Awards . And this is one fiery debut for the film franchise, with eight nominations , including Movie of the Year, Best Cast, Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson), Breakthrough Performance (Liam Hemsworth), Best On-Screen Transformation (Elizabeth Banks), Best Fight (Lawrence and Hutcherson vs. Alexander Ludgwig), and Best Kiss (Lawrence and Hutcherson). Yep, clearly the kind of credentials that would make any sponsor drool. Much like the titular death match, the Movie Awards can be a contentious battle, with franchise facing off against franchise, so preparation is key. In this week’s Hobnobbing, we’re taking on the role of mentor (step aside, Haymitch!) and offering some advice to the tributes. Here are our dos and don’ts for the big night: DO Dress to Impress Effie If there’s one place to let your fashion freak flag fly, it’s most certainly at an MTV awards show. ( Am I right, Rose McGowan ?) Of course, I’m not encouraging any tribute-tushy flashing or donning of flame-licked jumpsuits (such a fire hazard!), but this is a safe space to experiment with fanciful motifs and pieces of flair. For instance, I could see Lawrence sporting a shorter, cropped version of her red, orange and yellow interview dress, or Banks working her sky-high Effie heels. DON’T Tease Us Full disclosure: I personally think “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are a lock for a fourth Best Kiss statuette, but if the odds are indeed in Lawrence and Hutcherson’s favor and they’re named victors, I respectfully ask that they give us a show. None of this we-almost-maybe-kinda-sorta-kissed business. If you need some inspiration, Jennifer and Josh, take a page out of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ “Notebook.” DO Bring Your Bow and Arrow The Movie Awards have a storied history of spoofery, and while I have no insider information as to what’s in the works, Lawrence (if in attendance) would be wise to pack her trusty weapon. You never know when it will come in handy for a giggle-worthy gag! (Is this where I put in my request for Lawrence to shoot an apple off of Josh Horowitz ‘s head?) DON’T Drop Your Golden Popcorn ‘Nuff said . DO Bring News About “Catching Fire” We’re getting really hungry here, guys. Any scraps about the November 2013 release would be much appreciated. (Seriously, we’ll retrieve them from a pile of slop and devour them. We’re not proud!) Do you have any Movie Awards advice for the “Hunger Games” gang? ‘My grandmother MJ read the first one and said she couldn’t put it down,” Khloe Kardashian tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Kim Kardashian & Khloe Kardashian Photo: MTV News With book-to-film adaptations being all the rage these days, people just can’t seem to stop talking about the latest hot-button page-turner and best-seller “Fifty Shades of Grey.” And with the big-screen version of the saucy, S&M-heavy tale on the way, we’re doing our best here at MTV News to keep abreast of the latest developments in casting , along with attempts to round up a list of celebrity fans. When we caught up with in-the-know reality TV superstars Kim and Khloe Kardashian recently, ahead of the premiere of the new season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” we asked the sisters for their thoughts on the book and its rise to popularity within the pop-culture zeitgeist. Both ladies apparently have a lot of reading to do. “[I haven’t read it] but everyone talks about it,” Khloe said. “My grandmother MJ read the first one and said she couldn’t put it down. Now she’s on the second one. My grandmother!” Khloe added. “Sexy!” Kim also has yet to read the entire story, but admitted to letting her curiosity get the best of her during a recent plane ride that involved reading over a stranger’s shoulder. “There was someone reading it on their Kindle on the plane [in the seat] in front of me and they were a little older so the font was huge,” Kim recalled. “I was bored so I was like leaning forward and reading a full chapter.” “I heard it’s a great book,” Khloe chimed in. “It’s racy,” Kim said. “Grandmothers gotta live too,” Khloe said with a smile.

Pop star is featured in the trio’s 100th digital short alongside Usher, Natalie Portman, Justin Timberlake. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber and Lonely Island in their 100th digital short Photo: NBC While Justin Timberlake has always been cool about putting his junk in a box, another Justin, with the last name Bieber , was less comfortable singing about his own stuff in a “Saturday Night Live” digital short. Playing the part of Lonely Islander Akiva Schaffer, alongside Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg, the teen pop superstar helped the comedy trio celebrate their 100th digital short. The skit opens with the three guys, including Bieber, who confuses the name Akiva for the sound of a sneeze, introducing their A-lister-filled skit, complete with appearances from Timberlake, Michael Bolton, Usher, Jon Hamm, Will Ferrell and Natalie Portman, as well as character cameos from Shy Ronnie, Jack Sparrow and Sergio the Sax Man, to name a few. In tuxes, the three Lonely Island guys (with Akiva as imagined by Bieber) dance around congratulating themselves on the achievement, listing off all the ways they will celebrate (pilates included!). But, as it turns out Bieber, will do anything for love, but he won’t do that. And, what exactly is that? Well, you see the guys want to “suck our own d—s.” Bieber’s response? “That’s disgusting.” While Bieber stands as a highlight, so do the Timberlake and Postman cameos in the sketch. Timberlake was back, d—s in boxes and all. Meanwhile, Portman, holding a doll baby, got her gangster rapper on again, proclaiming, “Yeah I had a baby, but I’m still crazy.” As the short nears its wacky end, Bieber shares, “I was tricked into doing this. I don’t endorse this song. No, no, no, no.” Of course as he says this, Hamm as Sergio air humps around him. In the end, all of the characters get in a room and the guys (with Akiva now in for Akiva) once again share that they will celebrate the way they always intended: by sucking whatever it is they want to, 100 times. Saturday night’s episode was hosted by former “SNL” star Will Ferrell with musical guest (and Bieber’s mentor) Usher on hand. The finale airs this week with Rolling Stones leading man Mick Jagger hosting. What’s your favorite Lonely Island digital short? Leave your comment below! ‘I feel like people are giving me too much credit,’ Kim Spradlin tells MTV News about winning the latest season of ‘Survivor.’ By Josh Wigler Kim Spradlin Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Thirty-nine days, 18 people, one Survivor … and it’s exactly who it should have been all along. Surprising nobody but relieving everybody, 29-year-old bridal shop owner Kim Spradlin won the million-dollar prize on “Survivor One World” on Sunday, and she deserves every penny. Blue-eyed Kim wasn’t just the best-liked person out on the beach, she was the strategic mastermind who engineered the complete collapse of the game’s men, a physical powerhouse with four immunity victories to her name, and a savvy enough player to sniff out a hidden immunity idol she never even had to use. Watching the season, it didn’t take an eagle-eyed “Survivor” fan to know that Kim had all the makings of a fantastic winner. But try telling that to Kim herself. Speaking with MTV News at the “Survivor One World” finale, the pride of Salani revealed that going into the evening, she honestly didn’t think she had a chance at taking home the grand prize. “Honestly, it was just starting to feel too obvious,” Spradlin said of watching herself on television this season. “I thought there’s no way [I’m winning]. Something’s up. Something’s wrong. When you’re out there on the island, you get really paranoid, and you carry that back into your life. So I feel like I came back concerned that I wasn’t getting [the win].” But it was a different story out on the island. Kim weaved her way through numerous alliances to secure a top spot at the end of the game, leaving more than a few bitter jurors behind in her wake. Though she initially feared their wrath going into the final tribal council, she ultimately walked away from that experience feeling encouraged. “At the very end of the final tribal council was the first time where I really thought I could win this,” she said. “Up until then, I hadn’t heard the jury speak. I had no idea how mad they were going to be. And [throughout the season], they looked really mad. I didn’t think I had that great of a chance until I heard them talk.” In the end, Kim credits her win to two things. “I really wanted to keep my options open. I said that a lot on the show. If something went wrong here — if Chelsea was med-evaced one day — I’d have other options. I never wanted to put all of my eggs in one basket,” she said. “But at the same time, I wanted to be this great presence that people trusted, that felt calming, that people liked having around. I wanted people to think that I was on their side, so that they’d keep me around for them.” Her strategy worked, and now, Kim’s already being talked about as one of the all-time great “Survivor” winners. Indeed, during a commercial break at the live finale, original “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch piped up from the back of the Ed Sullivan Theater to describe Kim as one of the best players to ever play the game. That’s pretty high praise within the “Survivor” community, to say the least. “Honestly, I’m shocked,” she said of people’s reactions to her game play. “I feel like people are giving me too much credit sometimes. It just came naturally to me. And I got lucky — I think that’s a big part of this game. I’ve heard people refer to the butterfly effect out there: If someone stumbles upon a little thing, everything could end up totally differently. I think that’s very true.” Luck is a factor, true, but there’s no doubting that Kim’s inherent understanding of the game of “Survivor” fueled her victory as well. Now, with whispers of all-star seasons coming up in the future — the next season, set in the Philippines, is already slated to bring three former players back into the mix — fans are already ready to see Kim return to the beach and walk all over her competition again. The question is: Is Kim up for another round of “Survivor” action? “How do you say no to playing ‘Survivor’?” she said with a grin, before adding, “But I’m glad I’m not leaving tomorrow!” Previously in MTV News’ “Survivor” coverage:
‘Vampire Diaries’ star tells MTV News, ‘I’m glad that he’s supporting gay marriage, and hopefully others will follow suit.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Audrey Kim The Wanted Photo: Getty Images In the days since President Obama spoke up in support of same-sex marriage , celebrities have applauded the leader of the free world for his stance on the issue. Since the president’s interview with ABC News on Wednesday, many celebs ranging from Neil Patrick Harris to George Clooney have made it clear that they are pro-Obama. And, it seems, Obama’s message is spreading internationally, as famous people around the world are also giving him props. “I didn’t see the announcement when he made it, but I’ve heard obviously a lot about it, and I think it’s great that that man, the President of the United States, who is influential, who people really admire and listen to, is making such a statement, such a sort of controversial statement,” “Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev shared at the launch of the “Like Her, Like Me” Seventeen magazine campaign where she debuted her “got milk?” ad. The Canadian native added, “I don’t think [it] should be controversial at this point because we’re living in the 21st Century, but I’m glad that he’s supporting gay marriage, and hopefully others will follow suit.” Much like Dobrev, British boy banders the Wanted are also giving two thumbs up to Obama. “I think it was a logical step, about time,” Jay McGuiness said. “I wish it was church-led in my opinion, but I don’t care, it’s out there now. Well done, Obama and Co! Even if it was for the right or wrong reasons, it’s definitely the right outcome.” McGuiness is referring to some criticism that the president made the announcement hot on the heels of his re-election campaign, after years of not taking a firm stance on the issue. At a press conference for “America’s Got Talent” on Thursday, judge Howard Stern noted that he wishes more will come from Obama’s declaration. “My feelings are very clear on this,” he said. “I wish the president actually had gone further. I wish he had said he was going to back some legislation on the national level.” Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton mirrored Stern’s sentiments when he spoke to MTV News the same day. “It was definitely happy news, but I almost don’t want to applaud him too much, because I wish he would have done this a long time ago,” Hilton said. “Having said that, it’s better that he did it than not. He could have waited until after the election. However, it’s clearly a calculated move in that he felt confident that this won’t hurt his chances at getting re-elected, and that’s why he did it.” Share your thoughts on this story in the comments below! Maurice Sendak, the author of one of the most popular children’s books of all-time, has passed from complications related to a stroke. He was 83. I like them as few and far between as I do adults.” Maurice Sendak on The Colbert Report Sendak resided with his partner, psychiatrist Eugene Glynn, for 50 years before the latter died of lung cancer in 2007.
