There are tons of films with Black casts that will keep you laughing and not sweating from the outside heat. Let’s face it, laughter is the best medicine especially with the Trump stress weighing down on communities across the nation. For an added bonus, BBQ Becky won’t show up to stop the fun in any of the movies on this list. People can grab their movie snacks or some barbecue, sit back and enjoy the show. As the name implies, a Black family comes together for a cookout that gets pretty interesting. Boyz n The Hood This 1991 film is one of the classics. The movie, set in inner-city Los Angeles, catapulted Nia Long , Morris Chestnut , Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ice Cube to fame. The Inkwell A young Larenz Tate and Jada Pinkett (before she married Will Smith ) light up the screen in this 1994 film. Before Tate captured women’s affections in Love Jones, he captured hearts in this coming-of-age film set in Martha’s Vineyard during the Fourth Of July weekend of 1976. Poetic Justice The legendary Maya Angelou provided the poetic words that powered this 1993 film that starred the iconic Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur . Jackson and Shakur’s characters fall in love in the film, which featured a barbecue scene. Do The Right Thing This 1989 film was one of Spike Lee ‘s memorable and rawest journeys into inner-city life. Set on the hottest day of the year in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York, the film is a searing look at what happens when heat meets hate as the characters struggle with racial frustrations that ultimately boil over into chaos. But in reaching the tipping point, Lee still shows the community’s spirit. Barbershop 2: Back In Business This 2004 comedy starring Ice Cube and Queen Latifah will bring the laughs. The movie, focused on a Chicago barbershop’s importance to its community, has a barbecue scene that shows off Latifah and Cedric the Entertainer ‘s comedic chops. Menace II Society This 1993 film is another cult classic that stars Pinkett and Tate. At the heart of the film set in Watts, Calfornia, the main character, Caine, played by Tyrin Turner , is trying to find his way to a better life. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins This 2008 film isn’t one of Martin Lawrence ‘s best-known films, but it stars a lot of comedian talents including Mo’ Nique , Cedric The Entertainer and Mike Epps . Lawrence’s character returns home after achieving fame only to find out that his family could care less about his status. How Stella Got Her Groove Back This 1998 film had a braided-up Angela Bassett finding her to Jamaica to, well, get her groove back after a divorce and some major work stress. While there, she meets a young man played by Taye Diggs that piques her interest. Then, their lives both intertwine and change forever. Oh, there’s a good barbecue scene in this film, too. Shaunie got over her animosity toward Jennifer to try to convince Evelyn to come around too, but Evelyn isn’t having it. She says Jenn can use her mom dying as an excuse to be a jerk all she wants but it won’t change the fact that she was talking smack about Shaniece since before her mother died. In other words, Evelyn is not ready to come around and that’s that. Later on, we find Malaysia kicking it with CeCe and OG. The latter two have been besties lately, so much so that OG rolls her eyes when Malaysia mentions Kristen’s name. OG feels some type of way about Kristen due to their tiff at last season’s reunion (Kristen tried to shame her for not being married or having kids), but also because CeCe has been filling her in about her drama. The general sentiment, outside of Malaysia, is that Kristen is fake. This starts getting under Malaysia’s skin because she feels like CeCe has been telling OG stuff that she’s not telling everyone else, which is counterproductive to her mission of trying to get her family on the same page. This is going to blow up in a major way. In other news, Tami Roman is still around. She has been pulling a Kim Zolciak this season — you know — not wanting to really participate in filming with the other women. However, she does address Kenny Anderon’s stroke. She and her daughters are saddened by it. Speaking of her daughters, they feel like the only thing worse would be if something happens to her and so, they request that she stop smoking. Later on, Tami goes to a hypnotist because she has tried everything else in the world to give up smoking…except for this. Progress pending, because Tami fell asleep during the session. Finally, we get to the part of the episode where everything falls apart. Evelyn’s new business venture involves a skincare line formulated with CBD. So, we’re at the part where Evelyn brings the group together to test out her products, but the real reason we’re here is so that OG and Kristen can face off. It all goes downhill when OG walks in and Malaysia decides to be messy by bringing up when OG said that Kristen was fake. Malaysia also asks CeCe if she said something to OG in private that she shouldn’t have said. Basically, OG mentioned that she feels like CeCe tells her the truth about how she feels, but tells everyone else that everything is okay and that she and Kirsten are fine. Lies. Anyway, CeCe said she didn’t say anything off to OG at all and that they don’t even talk about Kristen when they hang out. OG feels like she’s holding on to a piece of anger from CeCe that CeCe is hesitant to share. Then OG finally decides to stop holding back and calls Kristen fake. Then she unloads more about how Kristen borrowed clothes and shoes from CeCe. They obviously start arguing and then OG blurts that Kristen and Thomas aren’t real Scotts because the man we’ve been seeing on camera thus far isn’t Thomas’ actual dad, but they just want the world to think they’re basketball royalty (Byron actually raised Thomas though). Kristen starts wilding out, She calls OG’s man gay, and starts trying to get at OG like she wants to try to fight but she gets restrained (and OG definitely isn’t scared). Shaunie steps in and chastises OG, talking about how she’s out of line and it’s not her place to reveal personal secrets like this, yatta yatta. Shaunie, Malaysia, and Feby try to keep Kristen at bay since they don’t have Love and Hip-Hop levels of security, and Jackie tells OG she’s out of line. CeCe said OG obviously threw that out to hurt Kristen but that the info isn’t a secret so she’s surprised about Kristen’s reaction. Meanwhile, Shaunie continues telling OG how wrong she was until OG said that CeCe gave her this info. Then Shaunie goes out and tells Kristen that Cece passed that info to OG. This causes Kristen to try to go charging back in the room. She gets restrained, but then. Malaysia goes back in to confront CeCe because she just asked if CeCe had told OG any secrets. CeCe admits to spilling the tea but added that it’s not a secret and she’s actually surprised that Kristen is acting the way she is. Y’all, Kristen is kicking, screaming, and in tears as if this was the first time she heard this news about her man. Then Malaysia starts going off on OG because she feels like OG is trying to keep her family apart. Now everyone thinks CeCe has been playing puppet master all this time. They think CeCe told OG all this stuff because she knew OG would be the one to put this stuff out there and say the things CeCe is too afraid to say. Wouldn’t be the first time for someone on this show to do that. Anyway, the petty drama returns next week. He shot a series of UV portraits using ultraviolet photography. The photos illustrate and show the true undertones of our skin and what the longterm effects of the sun will do on your skin. I had an opportunity to get my photo taken by the photographer through a Walgreens ‘Beneath The Surface’ Beauty & Skincare Event. It was an opportunity for me to see what products Walgreens was offering for summer and why I recently loaded up on sunscreen from my local store. Source: Pierre-Louis Ferre / Courtesy of Walgreens I was actually pretty impressed with my skin. I had the most sun damage on my forehead and inner part of my skin. On-goers marveled at how my skin didn’t have any sun spots. Nevertheless, the dermatologist seemed very concerned about my skin and its condition. She was a white dermatologist and I only mention this because I do believe it’s important to see a specialist who understands and knows your skin tone. Through Dove, I had the opportunity to sit with Dr. Mona Gohara, who chatted with me all things sunscreen and skincare to protect our melanin in the summer. I showed her the illustration and she actually told me my skin was great. I then dropped the big bomb on her. I don’t use sunscreen regularly. I don’t use sunscreen when I’m on vacations because I feel like my skin is deprived from the sun as I’m normally inside and I live in NYC. I’m a sun baby. I grew up in Florida where I regularly felt the rays dance across my skin. Dr. Mona explained that our melanin gives us a natural 13 SPF; however, we still need to do more. “The way Black and brown skin ages is with hyperpigmentation We have melanin, which is our greatest gift. Melanin protects us from the sun. Protecting us from the sun frankly, helps our skin not wrinkle as easy and maintain our elasticity.” She continued, “If you look at an 80-year-old white woman compared to a 80-year-old Black woman, the white woman will have wrinkles and sun spots. Black people will have hyper pigmentation, that’s how we age.” Melanin is our protector, but it’s also the active ingredient that makes us hyper pigment. It wasn’t just me, she sympathized that the average person is not diligent in sunscreen. Dr. Mona shared, “Diligence means a shot glass over your entire body every two hours. That’s how you are supposed to apply sunscreen.” However, it’s not only the sun that we need protecting from. Dr. Mona explained, “Sunscreen isn’t just protecting you from the sun, it’s protecting you from visible light, like light bulbs, and blue light, like your computer and phone.” While we may not be in the sun, how many hours a day do you spend on your phone or your computer? She added, “It’s now about protection from different types of light.” What’s so bad about looking on your phone all the time without protection? Dr. Mona stated, “Visible light can promote malasma and hyper pigmentation, so we are extrapolating other types of light that we’re coming in contact with like the phone and computer can be damaging as well, built we don’t know to what extent.” Source: Dove Beauty Bar / Courtesy of Dove If skin health is a priority, then sunscreen should be a priority. Dr. Mona educated, “90% of the visible signs of aging come from unprotected exposure to ultra violet light.” Black and brown skin also ages with dryness. Audrey Roloff and Jeremy Roloff just shared some pretty exciting news with their fans!” The Little People, Big World stars are happy to announce that their world is about to get even bigger as they are expecting their second child together. That’s right, Audrey Roloff is pregnant and shared the big news online Monday as she held her belly bump and showed off the new baby’s sonogram. She, Jerem and 22-month-old daughter Ember all smiled big for the Instagram pic, as you can see above. “Baby #2 is coming in January!!!” Audrey wrote in the caption, keeping it simple and straightforward. “Ember is gonna be a big sister! We are so grateful and excited for this little blessing to join our family.” This good news is a major shift from Audrey’s recent post where she opened up about her and Jeremy’s marriage issues. While many fans were expecting a divorce announcement, a baby announcement was delivered instead. (yay!) “To be honest, the last few weeks have been hard on our marriage,” she began her lengthy caption last week, warning her followers it was a “vulnerable post.” “We have been working through some things and let’s just say there has been a lot of ‘heated fellowship’, morning hugs missed and date nights postponed.” “We are overworked and exhausted from the pace we’ve been running for too long,” she admitted. “We know we need to slow down, but as Dallas Willard puts it, ‘we intend what is right, but we avoid the life that would make it a reality.'” “Instead, we keep running, keep pushing, keep producing and keep squeezing all the margin out of our lives,” the former TLC personality continued. “It’s robbing our joy, stealing our peace, and hindering our ability to love,” she even went on to remark. Last week marked 5 years since Jill Duggar married Derick Dillard in front a few thousand of her family’s closest friends (and a couple million TV viewers.) For the most part, Jill and Derick have done exactly what’s expected of them. They started cranking out kids almost immediately and boasted of their religious devotion at every opportunity – which are pretty much the two most important things any Duggar couple can do. But in many ways, Jill and Derick have defied tradition and blazed their own trail. For example, remember when Derick was fired from Counting On for hurling bigoted, transphobic statements on social media? Appalling stuff – but for many of the family’s evangelical fans, it pales in comparison to the revelation that Jill and Derick enjoy sex. Yes, the Dillards celebrated their fifth anniversary last week, and the way they chose to celebrate this raised more than a few eyebrows. They marked the occasion by combining Duggar-like wholesomeness with the kind of sexual deviancy one might expect from those sinful Kardashians. Jill and Derick went to a theme park and caught Toy Story 4 in theaters – but they also posted a photo that showed a copy of the Kama Sutra and a sex game for couples. Seriously. That was a thing that happened. And as OK! magazine points out, many of Jill’s followers were not happy about that unsolicited glimpse into her sex life. “No offense to y’all but I don’t want to know what goes on in between the sheets! Please keep it PG remember you were raised a Christian,” one person wrote . “Bible open in the background, Kama Sutra and massage oil in the foreground … just weird,” commented another “fan.” Interjected another: “Why oh why do you feel the need to post this? You wear modest clothing to keep your body covered, yet you share intimate details about your sex life with the world?” “This is very odd to me.” Some fans took issue not with the sexual nature of the post, but with the fact that Jill and Derick are endorsing a book that’s not Jesus-approved. “Am surprised you would read the Kama Sutra, it is Hindu,” one follower commented. “You are inviting Satan into your marriage.” Amazingly, Jill took the time to dignify this idiocy by responding to it. Even more amazing is the fact that she didn’t simply tell these people to take inspiration from some of the more ambitious diagrams in the Kama Sutra and go eff themselves: “We are not recommending the Kama Sutra,” Jill wrote in an edited caption for the post. “We believe marriage is ordained by God and husbands and wives should filter everything they read and hear together through the lense of the Bible and not practice anything unbiblical.” She added: “The little book pictured is a modern, smaller, cleaner, edited version that doesn’t focus on spiritual aspects, homosexual, or other extramarital relationships, and again, we don’t take everything in there either as the truth. “It is always good to be aware and careful of what we allow into our minds, hearts and marriages.” Good to know, Jill!
