After building a friendship Nobunaga honored Yasuke with the samurai title; one of the highest honors in Japanese culture. Doug Miro will serve as a writer for the film and it is being produced by Mike De Luca , Stephen L’Heureux , Logan Coles and Boseman. Boseman is excited to use his artistry as an avenue to bring Yasuke’s story to the forefront. “The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai,” he said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I am excited to be part of it.” There is no word on when the film is slated to be released. There have been a few efforts to shed light on Yasuke’s story through pieces of literature and a Netflix anime series produced and directed by LeSean Thomas featuring the voice of Lakeith Stanfield . Little People, Big World is a reality television show. This is not exactly a groundbreaking statement. As such, however, the long-running TLC series has faced the same criticism and the same questions that have faced all other reality television entries on the small screen. Which is to say that many viewers are often wondering the following: Is the series scripted? This speculation was spurred on about three years ago when Jacob Roloff quit the show , resigning with a controversial Instagram post that he claimed at the time called out the program for exactly what it is: An example of total phoney baloney, according to Jacob. “Producers have to try to get us to follow the talking points,” he shared in this message, jumping way high on a pedestal and adding: “For me, noticing how the agenda of the crew doesn’t work well with the health & happiness of our family is what made me decide quite a while ago that I could not be a part of it as soon as I was able.” In this same post, Jacob referred to “storyline” and wrote of his loved ones: “They are the Roloff Characters and I have scarcely anything in common with them.” Years later, Jacob would sort of apologize for these remarks; or at least explain that he had since grown up and regretted making them. He’s now on great terms with these same loved ones, but the issue remains. The question hangs over the Roloffs. How much of what we see each week is natural and normal? And how much is produced or even flat-out written for Amy, Matt and their kids? “For the most part, we keep it real,” Amy Roloff told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “My kids are real. They’re grounded … Granted, here we’re filming three hours and then take the one moment that people will say, ‘Oh, it’s scripted.’ “I say, ‘No, it didn’t feel like the three hours that I was in.’ I like to think that we’re pretty honest, we’re pretty real – at least I am – sometimes to a fault.” In other words: The show is edited. And these edits may be done in such a way to emphasize a certain topic or disagreement in order to boost interest — such as Matt and Amy’s fight a couple weeks ago over the farm . But nothing you see is fake by any definition of that word. How has a show that started off as an idea for a one-off documentary lasted this long? How has it actually set a Guiness World Record ? Hannah Payne , 21, reportedly saw the collision that police in Clayton County described as a minor fender bender before she followed Kenneth Herring , 62, for a mile, blocked his car with hers, approached him and killed him with her gun. That was after she called 911, which police said typically advise callers against approaching people they’re calling about. Payne is white and Herring is Black. Hannah Payne has been charged with murder for killing a Black man who she saw get in a hit and run car accident. Considering the egregious nature of the charges and the current racial climate in the U.S., tweets that suspected racism were all but obligatory. Against The World (@chillin662) May 10, 2019 However, emails have been sent to this writer claiming that Payne was the farthest thing from racist and accusing NewsOne of falsely reporting that she was racist. (NewsOne never reported she was racist.) One email said that the mere suggestion Payne could be behind a racist shooting of a Black man was ludicrous in part because her Facebook page showed she had many Black friends. However, a search for Payne’s Facebook turned up empty and a request by NewsOne to interview the people who sent the emails was denied. Because of that, the emails sent to NewsOne have been paraphrased and not quoted. Another lengthier email said the comparisons NewsOne made between Payne and George Zimmerman were misguided. Zimmerman was the volunteer neighborhood watchman in Florida who followed and killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 even after a 911 operator told him not to approach the unarmed Black teen. He was eventually acquitted of murder under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law. Georgia also has a Stand Your Ground law , though it was unclear if Payne planned to use that for her defense. The email went on to add that Payne has always been romantically attracted to Black males, using that as a primary reason why the shooting could not have possibly been racially motivated. Another email said Payne lived in a neighborhood where people of all races live together. It was unclear where Payne called home, but the latest Census data for Clayton County showed that more than 71 percent of its residents were listed as being Black. One email blamed Herring, a senior citizen who may or may not have even realized he had hit another car, for driving for a mile after the collision despite there being no reports that he sped away. If Herring did speed away, that would presumably mean that Payne had to drive faster (read: speed) than he was driving just to catch up with him before she used her car to block him in. Insurance companies have long advised drivers who witness a hit and run to document the license plate number of the offending driver and report it to authorities. For instance, State Farm said on its website that drivers involved in and witnesses of a hit and run should not “follow the fleeing driver. Leaving the scene of the accident could put you in a compromising position: You’ll miss getting eyewitness accounts — and police could question who’s really at fault.” The email also wondered why Herring would make such a decision to keep driving. The email insisted that had roles been reversed, Payne would have remained on the scene of her car accident. It went on to say that she carried her legally licensed gun to protect herself from people like Herring. The author of the email didn’t respond to questions about what exactly that meant. All of the emails shared one common refrain: trying to discredit the way that NewsOne has covered the shooting as potentially being motivated by race. That was even as most mainstream media outlets have seemingly ignored the story or moved on to other current events. Upon first glance, there was no apparent direct evidence to suggest the shooting was racially motivated. But the circumstantial evidence, bolstered by the tragic trend of white people not in law enforcement trying to police Black people , appeared to be quite strong. That was especially true when factoring in how the shooting took place in Georgia, a state that prides itself on its role in the Confederacy. In fact, the Georgia House voted in late March “to increase the penalties against those who damage the state’s public and private monuments — and make it more difficult to remove or relocate Confederate markers ,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported at the time. That was as other, more progressive states have moved to remove Confederate monuments. More recently, a mayor in a rural Georgia town rejected a Black man’s job application specifically because of his race. Clayton County is located just 15 miles south of Atlanta, the state’s capital city where Black residents have long thrived socially and economically. But racism has persisted across the state, in both rural and urban locations, much like the rest of the country. Considering those facts, it was nearly impossible to rule out race as a motivational factor for Payne’s lethal pursuit of Herring. Payne’s lawyer said his client was simply trying to do the right thing. “It just seems like an unfortunate situation of a good Samaritan trying to stop a person on a hit-and-run,” Matt Tucker said. A witness described Payne to WSB-TV as the aggressor who immediately claimed after Herring was shot that he was the one who pulled the trigger. Given what is known about the shooting, it may come across as curious why more media outlets were not covering it. Aside from a handful of initial news reports following the news of Payne’s arrest, little other information has been reported with few, if any, follow-up news articles. Even social media was relatively silent despite that egregious nature of the shooting that typically makes for rabid fodder on Twitter and Facebook. Regardless of what investigators discover, it was doubtful that Payne could be charged with a hate crime even if the shooting fit the criteria for it. That was because the Georgia House only recently passed a bill for what could become the state’s first hate crimes legislation. The bill must be approved by the state Senate before it can become law. As of Friday afternoon, Payne remained locked up in Clayton County Jail without bond. Well, it looks like there’s officially one more Kardashian in the world! According to reports from TMZ , a studio where the Migos rapper was recording was “peppered with bullets.” Law enforcement sources who spoke with the publication said that the shooting occurred around 9 p.m at the Crossover Entertainment Group studio in Atlanta, Georgia. When police arrived at the scene, they found damage to three vehicles as well as the exterior of the building. There were reports following this incident that one person on the scene had been shot in the leg, but police were unable to locate a shooting victim. Surveillance video shows a person leaning out the window of a car while firing at the building. Anonymous sources also told TMZ that the shooting happened shortly after Offset stepped outside of his recording session to get some air. The remaining people inside the studio ended up hiding in an interior room following the shooting and the rapper had reportedly left the scene already by the time officers arrived. The Migos member isn’t on the best of terms with the law right now–facing three felony gun charges and another warrant for allegedly breaking someone’s phone –so it makes sense that he didn’t want to be seen caught up in the commotion of a crime scene.
A Oklahoma mother is demanding answers after police shot her three children in the head while they were in a car believed to be involved with a past robbery. According to KFOR , on April 26, Hugo police detectives Billy Jenkins and Chad Allen opened fire on a vehicle driven by William Devaughn Smith, 21, who they claim tried to run them over. However, witnesses claim that the officers, who were in plain clothes, could have moved out of the way instead of shooting into the car with four children. Olivia Hill, the children’s mother, went into detail about the injuries three of her four children endured. “My 4-year-old daughter was shot in the head, and she has a bullet in her brain, and my 5-year-old has a skull fracture,” adding, “My 1-year-old baby has gunshot wounds on her face. My 2-year-old wasn’t touched with any bullets.” Smith was also shot, taken to the hospital and later arrested. He has yet to be charged, but is facing 1st degree felony charge of aggravated robbery, the AP reported . The 21-year-old has been accused of being involved in April 11 robbery of a local Pizza Hut, but as The Associated Press pointed out , authorities have yet to reveal what Smith’s actual role in the robbery actually was. In addition, authorities have yet to confirm whether the detectives knew the children were in the car at the time of the shooting. That, and Jenkins and Allen have been placed on administrative leave. “What happened between the contact with him and when police fired, we’re still trying to put that together,” a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said. “The OSBI is still investigating whether he fired at police and whether he was armed.” This is a developing story and we will provide updates as they become available.
