Source: Mike Coppola / Getty Desus Nice and The Kid Mero’s come up is a story for the ages, but as proud New Yorkers through and through, their latest accomplishment just might be their biggest yet. If you live in New York, chances are you spend at least a couple hours a day commuting via subway–or, most likely, some days you spend 15 minutes riding the train and others it’s 2 hours, you really never know. With that being said, a MetroCard is one of every New Yorkers most pride possessions, so there’s really no higher honor than having your face on one. That’s where Desus & Mero come in. Since their move to Showtime, it seems like these two have been absolutely everywhere–and with the newest addition of their faces on the back of some limited edition MetroCards, that might actually be true. Some random advertisements popped up on Twitter on Monday night for a select few Desus and Mero fans, prompting them to tweet out a specific hashtag in order to see how to obtain an exclusive Bodega Boys MetroCard. Omw to get an exclusive #DESUSandMERO MetroCard. Make sure to cop your own before they run out. — Bodega Boys Daily (@bodegaboysdaily) March 12, 2019 Yerrrrrrrr @THEKIDMERO @desusnice pic.twitter.com/euMyb5WBtP — a little frank (@__wonderfrankie) March 12, 2019 Once clicking on the prompt and subsequently tweeting out “Omw to get an exclusive # DESUSandMERO MetroCard. Make sure to cop your own before they run out,” a map of all the locations where one can grab an exclusive cars becomes available. For all the New Yorkers out there, here are the stations where you can snag your own Desus & Mero MetroCard: 3 Av/149th St ( 2 / 6 ) 168th St ( A / C / 1 ) 50th St ( C / E ) 50th St ( 1 ) Prince St ( R / W ) Broadway-Lafayette St ( B / D / F / M ) Astor Place ( 6 ) Barclays Center (Atlantic & Flatbush) ( B / Q / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ) Barclays Center (Flatbush & Hanson) ( B / Q / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 ) Marcy Ave ( J / Z / M ) Queensboro Plaza ( 7 / N / W ) Once arriving to the station, you don’t just walk up to the machine like you normally would to fill up your card, but just go up to the teller and let them know you’re there for your Desus & Mero MetroCard. As Desus himself points out, this latest development in the Bodega Boys’ brand is especially poignant considering Desus & Mero’s personal past with MetroCards. Like they used to reference on the early episodes of their podcast all the time, the both of them used to share one MetroCard. we went from sharing a metrocard to record our first show to having our face on a metrocard. shouts to the #bodegahive — Desus Nice (@desusnice) March 12, 2019 Going from sharing a card to cut down on costs to having your face on an actual MetroCard is absolutely wild and just shows how BROLIC the brand is. Go cop you a Desus and Mero MetroCard today before they run out!

Shook Ones: ‘Empire’ Cast And Crew Nervous About Shows Future In The Wake Of Jussie Smollett’s Legal Trouble

Source: FOX / Getty ‘Empire’ Cast And Crew Anxiously Await News Of Season Six Renewal Fox hasn’t renewed Empire for season six and the cast and crew are anxious about their future paychecks according to what production sources have told TMZ . Word is that the folks who have been working on Empire for years feel that they should have heard by now whether or not Fox is interested in continuing to fund the production. In fact, they expected to hear about the renewal two weeks ago. Crickets. Each season for the past 5 years Fox has renewed the show in January, months ahead of the finale. We can’t imagine that this is going to do good things for morale on set. Obviously, people feel like Jussie’s case will be a major factor in the network’s decision. “Jamal” has already been cut from this season’s final two episodes. Even if Empire does return for season six, it looks like Jussie may be done for good. The suits at Fox aren’t really hype on him and the cast and crew perhaps even less so. Guess we’ll just have to see how everything plays out. Oh, the drama. Smh.

Issa Rae Covers ‘Women’s Health’ Magazine, Dishes On Losing All That “New Money Weight”

Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty Issa Rae Talks Getting In Shape With ‘Women’s Health’ Magazine In a new interview with Women’s Health, Issa Rae talks about dealing with unexpected weight gain and how she’s been keeping the pounds off after not liking how she looked on her hit show Insecure . In a very real moment, she tells the publication that with success came more access to good food and voila, thickness . When the Web series started, I was very, very broke. Then more opportunities began to come,” she explains. “I was gaining New Money Weight.” As Issa saw it, the seemingly unlimited access to good food was one of the perks of her hustle. “When you get a good job, you’re like, ‘I can afford to eat at restaurants all the time!’ That adds up in weight.” While she was enjoying all that good food, Issa tells Women’s Health her “New Money Weight” started messing with her self-esteem and so she decided to get healthy. “Time to work out is so limited, but when I first started seeing myself on TV, I was like, ‘I gotta make time.’” she said. Like many of us, Issa was full of excuses at first, but now she’s found a routine that works. “I was a big excuse person when it came to exercising and eating right. I’d have spurts of trying to work out and being good. Then once I fell off, I’d be like, ‘Well, there’s always next year. Let me make it my New Year’s resolution.’ But even then, I would still be eating wrong while exercising vigorously.” (Issa is more “paleo-leaning” in her eating habits now, having rediscovered bacon after being a vegetarian for 15 years.) My neighborhood has a bunch of hills, so it’s walking up hills. Then I alternate between walking and jogging. I hate jogging—you’re going in circles, but I recognize that it helps.” Check out a behind-the-scenes clips on the flip, plus her full interview with Women’s Health here . She goes on to talk about her friendships with Debbie Allen and Ava Duvernay , her favorite musicals, and the one piece that keeps her puzzle together.

Jesus Take The Musical Selection: Mayor Bill de Blasio Dances To “I Believe I Can Fly” With Enthusiastic Black Church-Goers [Video]

But if you’re gonna be hanging with the Black folks, at least make sure you get all the latest memos about who we’re messing with, who’s “canceled,” and who’s up for question. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio should definitely know this considering his melanated wife and children . But alas… The politician was caught dancing to an R. Kelly song in the most public of public ways. De Blasio was recently in South Carolina feeling out a presidential bid when he visited a Black church. While many Black people have either canceled or distanced themselves from R. Kelly, considering his alleged abuse history and non-paying a$$ proclivities , Victory Tabernacle Deliverance Temple was still singing “I Believe I Can Fly” loud and proud. And De Blasio joined the musical selection, spreading his arms out like wings and everything. Peep the visuals below. Kelly song. “The Mayor wasn’t the church’s DJ, and he certainly can’t be expected to recognize every R. Kelly track. Thanks,” said the spokesman Eric Phillips. Seems like de Blasio might want to research his sappy inspirational Black people songs in the future.

Katrina Pierson Thinks Trump Isn’t Racist Because No Black People Worked In Lincoln’s White House

More here:

E ver since Michael Cohen reminded us at his hearing that President Trump is a stone-cold racist, the White House has been throwing out all of their sunken place loyalists. Now, a Trump adviser has become the latest one to embarrasses herself on national television. See Also: While The Government Is Shut Down, Ben Carson’s Incompetence Threatens Poor Families’ Housing While talking to Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC over the weekend, Katrina Pierson was asked how many African-Americans worked in the West Wing. Pierson stumbled answering the question before offering up this gem she dug up from the sunken place. “I’m not going to participate in the attempt to make this all about race. It is ridiculous. How many black people were in Abraham Lincoln’s West Wing?” she asked. “Is Abraham Lincoln a racist because he didn’t have a black person in his White House? This is insane. This is an insane discussion.” Looking shocked at the worst rebuttal ever, Sharpton looked back to 1861 before the Civil War. “First of all, if you need to go back to Lincoln… You can’t name a Black in the West Wing because we can’t find one, Katrina, I pity you,” Sharpton clapped back. “I’d sympathize with you, but telling me you applied, and other people? Come on. It’s unthinkable in the 21st century that even a spokesperson for President Trump can’t name a black in the West Wing.” She then randomly brought up Will Smith and identity politics. Watch below, which starts at the 32:00 mark: Pierson, who has been serving as a senior adviser to Trump’s 2020 campaign, was one of the president’s most ardent Black voices when he first ran for the White House, defending her boss against opponents (Democrats and Republicans) on cable news stations. Her shady past  certainly didn’t help her image of being either uninformed or a bald-faced liar (or both). For example, she bizarrely blamed President  Barack Obama  for  starting the war  in Afghanistan. Obama, however, was a state senator at the time that war began. She also  disrespected Obama  by referring to him as the “head Negro in charge.” This is also the same person who said slavery was “good history.” Welcome to the trash of the 2020 campaign . It’s going to be an ugly one. SEE ALSO: If The Innovators Of New Jack Swing Aren’t Mad At Bruno Mars, Why Are Millennials? Standing By Massa! Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez: Engaged! With This HUGE Ring!

Alex Rodriguez ended his Major League Baseball career with 696 home runs. But the polarizing third basement saved his biggest swing for Saturday night… … when he aimed for the fences with Jennifer Lopez and connected! On an agreement to become husband and wife! That’s right, readers, Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are engaged! To be married! Both superstars shared the enormous news at the same time posing a photo of the gigantic rock Rodriguez gifted to Lopez on Instagram. “She said yes,” captioned the image, which featured the diamond on his bride-to-be’s finger, while J. Lo published the same snapshot along with including eight black heart emojis in her caption. Prepare yourselves to be blown away — but here’s an up-close look at the rock in question: According to a People Magazine insider, Rodriguez popped the life-altering question during a vacation in the Bahamas. He also did so after posted a quote on his Instagram Story defining a soulmate. It reads as follows: A soulmate isn’t someone who completes you. No, a soulmate is someone who inspires you to complete yourself. A soulmate is someone who loves you with so much conviction, and so much heart, that it is nearly impossible to doubt just how capable you are of becoming exactly who you have always wanted to be. Who knew Alex Rodriguez was such a romantic, huh? The happy news comes nearly seven weeks after the couple celebrated its two-year anniversary on February 3. Back when they first got together, most observers assumed this would be a mere fling between two very rich and attractive people with an extensive dating history. But they actually have proven to support each other at all times in public and the feelings have seemed quite real for awhile now. “You make my world a more beautiful safe and stable place … in the midst of our ever-changing, ever moving life,” Lopez wrote in part of a touching Instagram post to celebrate the two-year mark. Added Rodriguez in his own message at the time: “We are meant to be, and how much you mean to me cannot be put into words.” Rodriguez was previously married to Cynthia Scurtis. They divorced in 2008 after six years of marriage and share two kids, Natasha, 14, and Ella, 10. Lopez, meanwhile, was previously married to Ojani Noa, Chris Judd AND Marc Anthony. She shares twins Max and Emme, 11, with Anthony, who she divorced in 2014. Yes, that’s three marriages — but Lopez has said in the past she would still be open to a fourth. “I do believe in marriage,” she told Harper’s Bazaar a year ago. “And I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. “But I’m not forcing anything right now.” As for A. Rod? She told this same magazine in this same interview: “It’s good, it’s healthy; we communicate well. We understand each other’s lives in a way that most other people couldn’t.” CONGRATS TO THE HAPPY COUPLE!

Martin Shkreli In Prison: Illegally Running His Business, Hanging With a Dude Named Krispy

It’s been about 16 months since Martin Shkreli was sentenced to seven years in prison . You probably remember Shkreli as the “Pharma Bro” (though we’ve always preferred the “Pharma Douche” variation on that nickname) who jacked up the price of a life-saving medication for HIV patients a whopping 5,000% percent during his tenure as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. That act of pure evil made Shkreli “the most hated man in America.” (Of course, his constant trolling of the Wu-Tang Clan didn’t help. Did no one inform this guy they’re nothing to f–k with?) But it was Shkreli’s unrelated conviction for securities fraud that earned him seven-year stay in federal prison. Shkreli is a devoted member of MAGA nation, but he never climbed the ladder of insanity high enough to get the full Manafort treatment, so the Donald isn’t sticking his neck out by pardoning Lil Marty. But fear not, the hip hop obsessed Hillary hater is making the most of his life behind bars, as revealed in a hilarious new profile of Shkreli published this week by the Wall Street Journal. The paper promises a glimpse into “the secret life of inmate 87850-053, 16 months into a seven-year sentence,” and boy, does it deliver. The most talked-about revelation from the Journal piece is that Shkreli is still acting as CEO of his company (newly-named Phoenixus AG in response to numerous PR nightmares) with the aid of a contraband cell phone. And while you might think that his time behind bars would have humbled Shkreli a bit, it seems he’s still a nightmare to work for. The Journal reports that one of Shkreli’s most recent actions was to call his CFO and fire the guy while he was on an African vacation with his fiancee. The problem, it seems, is that the exec picked the wrong time to ask for a seven-figure (?!?!) raise. You see, Shkreli is stretched thin these days, what with paying for protection and covering his fellow inmates’ poker debts (seriously). Marty was already feeling the pinch, and since the fired exec won’t be shanking anyone in the yard for him, he had to be let go. So who are the movers and shakers on Shkreli’s prison payroll? Well, it seems he’s got a crew of guys with names like “Krispy” and “D-Block.” According to the Journal , these up-and-comers “walk alongside him in the hall to ward off shenanigans from other inmates,” which is exactly how we would expect the Wall Street Journal to cover prison politics. But Krispy and D-Block do more than just keep Shkreli from physical harm. They recently dissuaded him from playing guitar in a prison rock band, as the other members were all locked up for child molestation. They’re also helping Marty with his goal of doing — we sh-t you not — 15 push-ups in a row. We encourage you to take a moment to reflect on how gloriously f–ked this dude would be, were it not for the fact that he’s mega-rich. But it’s not just money that keeps Shkreli’s associates loyal (j/k, that’s exactly what it is). The 35-year-old recently attempted to bolster his street cred by asking his Facebook followers to translate Meek Mill lyrics into Spanish for him. And in exchange, the Shkreli crew bestowed upon their boss the ultimate honor — a prison nickname. That nickname? A-hole.
