Savoy Talk Tour Dates With Wiz Khalifa, Benny Benassi, More

Rising EDM trio tell MTV News upcoming shows will be a ‘visual escape,’ as their single ‘Get Static’ hits Beatport. By Adam Stewart, with additional reporting by Brian O’Toole Savoy’s Mike Kelly Photo: MTV News Savoy have quickly become a buzz-worthy act on the EDM scene, and you can expect to hear a lot more from them in the months to come. On Thursday, their single “Get Static,” a big synth-infused monster, is slated to hit Beatport. The dance-music trio — Ben Eberdt, Mike Kelly and Gray Smith — began making waves in 2009 with their hit “Automatic,” and their electro-rave-inspired swagger has since earned them a loyal (and growing) fanbase. MTV News recently met up with Savoy who told us how they met and teased their tour plans (expect lasers!). “We met at the University of Colorado in our freshman-year dorms and, ever since, we’ve been striving towards making dance music and working together as music producers,” Eberdt explained. “Mike lived next door from me, and I met Gray from seeing him walk around playing a mandolin. I went up and said, ‘Hey man, we should play some music together.’ We all went [to college] with the same idea that we wanted to meet somebody else to play music with or to make music with or at least have some artistic connection with.” Since their college days, Savoy have pumped out some of the most talked-about underground New York dance-music scene. From their Benny Benassi-esque electro destroyer “Life of the Party” to “Real People,” a delightfully-dark progressive house thumper, Savoy have demonstrated grade-A production ability and they make their inspirations clear — but with subtlety. “Acts like Swedish House Mafia and Deadmau5 are awesome,” said Gray. “We’re all really big fans; they’re definitely huge influences for us. It’s awesome to see them doing so much for the dance-music genre, really taking it to new levels and better venues than dance music has pretty much ever seen before.” The trio will hit this weekend’s Snowball Festival in Colorado, alongside Porter Robinson (a prot

Lady Gaga Rocks Fans With Monster Ball Performance

‘I swear it was the best show I’ve ever gone to!’ fan exclaims of Atlantic City showcase. By Shawn Adler Lady Gaga performs in Atlantic City on Saturday Photo: Tom Briglia/ WireImage Mother Monster might have been the one on stage Saturday night (February 19) belting out numbers at the top of her lungs, but it was the Little Monsters in the audience who reached impossibly loud volumes for their hero, Lady Gaga. And they did it outside the arena. “I swear it was the best show I’ve ever gone to!” a fan screamed to MTV News outside of Boardwalk Hall arena in Atlantic City, where Gaga had just finished her Monster Ball performance. “I was waiting for it!” “I loved it!” fan Sandy Kutsu gushed at alarming decibels. “It was my second time!” Generally sticking to her Monster Ball format, Gaga nevertheless had some new tricks and treats in store for her appreciative audience, including a performance of “Born This Way” (“She did ‘Born This Way’!” a fan exclaimed!) during a second encore, just one day after the single was named the fastest-selling single in the history of iTunes . “There was a little bit of new choreography, some new costuming. But other than that it was the Monster Ball we know and love,” fan Stephanie Botton explained. “I was in tears at ‘Born this Way.’ It was absolutely great.” The biggest surprise, however, might have been Gaga’s announcement during the show that she’d be back on tour next year with the “Born This Way Ball.” “How can one person do all that? I have no idea!” gushed fan Kaitlin Donahue. For fans, the tour surely can’t come quickly enough. “She’s changed my life,” Botton said. “It was awesome!” Related Photos Lady Gaga Lights Up Atlantic City Related Artists Lady Gaga

J. Cole, Wale NBA All-Star Weekend Show Features Drake, Melanie Fiona

Drake and J. Cole sing ‘In the Morning,’ before Fiona, Cole and Wale perform ‘Beautiful Bliss.’ By Steven Roberts, with additional reporting by Janice Llamoca J. Cole Photo: MTV News NBA All-Star Weekend is officially under way in Los Angeles, and Wale and J. Cole helped to kick it off with a sold-out show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood on Friday night. The Roc Nation duo treated their fans, who had braved the uncharacteristically cold and damp Southern California weather, with an amazing performance as well as a surprise guest. Drake hit the stage during J. Cole’s set to perform their salacious smash hit “In the Morning.” The crowd erupted as soon as the track began to play, but it got even louder once Drake hit the stage to seduce nearly every young lady in attendance with his romantic style. “Baby, you wintertime cold/ The night is still young, drink that dinner wine slow/ I’m trying to make the goose bumps on your inner thigh show.” J. Cole and Drake released the video for the track this past week on Valentine’s Day. It features behind-the-scenes footage from their Paris stop on Drake’s Lights, Dreams and Nightmares European tour. When MTV News caught up with Cole before the show, he said that video was meant to be something really organic, even though it’s becoming something much bigger. “It was really a viral video. At the end of the day, it wasn’t supposed to be a Hype Williams production or nothing. I wanted it to be really organic, just to document the tour. Just to document that moment in my life, or our lives, touring Europe for the first time.” Cole said this was his first All-Star weekend, and he loved the energy it brought to the town. He has been in L.A. for two weeks now, since the Grammy Awards as well as working on his project with Kendrick Lamar . He said he hopes to play in the All-Star celebrity game next year to fulfill his hoop dreams. Another Canadian singer hopped on the stage as well. Fellow Roc Nation artist Melanie Fiona joined Cole and Wale onstage for their first-ever performance of Wale’s “Beautiful Bliss.” Wale opened his show with his usual vigor. During his set, which included tracks from his More About Nothing mixtape and Attention Deficit, the crowd roared once his collaboration with Waka Flocka and Roscoe Dash came on. But by that time, he had already cleared a space for himself to dance and shake his dreads as the crowd helped him rap. As far as he was concerned, it was business as usual, making sure the crowd had an amazing time. “We’re used to this now. We’ve done a lot of sold-out shows together. I just think the significance of this is it being All-Star weekend,” Wale said. “I think being a quote-unquote ‘real’ hip-hop show, that’s what makes it special.”

Before he heads out on his Green Carpet Tour, Wiz will perform on the evening of his album release at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Dates for the Green Carpet Tour:

The singer provided some revealing insights into her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale , during the open conversation. “I would describe it as moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy. I co-wrote a couple of songs. I think it’s some of the best work I have ever done. Lindsay Lohan Feels D.A. is "Out to Get Her"

Lindsay Lohan is never at fault. She’s just an easy target . So says Lindsay Lohan . The alleged jewelry bandit is complaining to friends and family that members of the District Attorney’s office are “out to get me” and using her to get elected. Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers, who oversees Lindsay’s probation DUI case, will likely a the felony grand theft complaint against the star this week. The charge relates to the allegation that Lohan stole a $2,500 necklace from a jewelry store in Venice, Calif., which she claims was merely loaned to her . Lindsay’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, the hardest working woman in L.A., met with Meyers on Monday, and the result was another day of freedom. Lohan was believed to be facing arrest yesterday, then today. But now “Lindsay’s fate won’t be decided for at least a day or more,” one source said. “As of right now, the case is still under review.” Holley has been out of town for business, and it’s unlikely that Myers would charge Lindsay with was out of town. She supposedly returns this evening. Meyers disputed Lindsay’s assertion that she’s being targeted , saying: “The D.A.’s Office has been fair and compassionate in prosecuting Ms. Lohan.” “The same fairness and justice will be applied in determining whether or not to file charges in the present manner. I think her lawyer would agree with this statement. I believe justice was administered fairly and equitably.” Meyers is running for District Attorney of Los Angeles, but before Lindsay jumps to conspiracy theories against her, she needs a geography lesson. “Because of where the crime took place, it falls under Meyers’ jurisdiction,” but wouldn’t if the theft took place in the Valley or Malibu, reports say. “Lindsay has no idea the amount of trouble she is in now. The surveillance video is going to be the strongest evidence against her,” the source adds. Nor will returning it help her. “Just because the necklace was returned to cops, and the warrant wasn’t executed didn’t compromise the case.” Another reason to worry: “Meyers doesn’t mess around when it comes to felony charges, and she’s unimpressed with Lindsay’s celebrity status.” Once Lindsay is charged with felony grand theft, she will have to formally surrender, and an arraignment date set. Look for that by week’s end.
