Tournament of THG Couples Edition: Who Made the Quarterfinals?

The opening round of the Tournament of THG: Couples Edition is in the books. The first-round matchups featured one big upset, with #12 seeds Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds knocking off #5 seed Brangelina. That #5 seed is always a death sentence. Here’s a look at where we stand heading into this week’s quarterfinals: The closest matchup so far? One of the perceived favorites, Jay-Z and Beyonce, eking out a win over Jason and Molly from The Bachelor with just 50.4 percent! Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth narrowly edged The Vampire Diaries ‘ Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, while Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel escaped too. The rest of the matchups were fairly decisive, with 20+ point margins. The four quarterfinal matchups will begin tomorrow with Rob and Kristen against Justin and Jessica, continuing on down the bracket throughout the week. If you haven’t taken part this far, it’s easy. All you have to do is vote for your favorite couple in each poll, so check back with THG each day and do so!

Welcome to the Tournament of THG: Couples Edition, where you decide the best celebrity couple EVER! The concept is simple: Pick your favorite pair in each poll. Done. The quarterfinal round begins Monday, so this is your last chance to cast virtual ballots for all eight first round contests. So far, some are a lot closer than others. Robsten, the royals, the President and First Lady, and Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are all sitting pretty. In every other showdown, the results are still very tight. Whitney Houston Memorial Service Off, Funeral Planned for Saturday

The earlier reports are true: Whitney Houston will be laid to rest this Saturday in her native city of Newark, New Jersey. The service will take place at the New Hope Baptist Church, the same locale in which Houston (and cousin Dionne Warwick) sang in the choir as a child. Sources say the family wants to keep this event as private as possible and will limit capacity to no more than 300 guests. Meanwhile, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has come out and shot down talk of a public memorial, saying of rumors that one would take place later this week: “The Houston family has no plans to set up a public viewing at the Prudential Center this Friday. In compliance with the family’s wishes, the city is not moving forward with any public ceremony.” Across the country, of course, citizens and celebrities continue to celebrate the singer’s life in their own ways. LeAnn Rimes, for example, sang a tribute to Whitney last night.

Lindsay Lohan Forgets to Pay Taxes … Again

Lindsay Lohan has more tax liens against her than she does probation violation charges. Okay, that’s a gross exaggeration … but she does have more than one. Which is ridiculous in itself. That’s right, according to the L.A. County Recorder’s Office, Lindsay never paid federal income taxes for 2010: $140,203.30 worth. This is a different case than the $93,701.57 she owes from 2009 . Baffling. As TMZ previously reported , LiLo never cut Uncle Sam a check for the $93,701.57 she was supposed to pay in federal income taxes for 2009 either. Lohan blamed her accountants for the 2009 debacle (obviously, never her fault) so it’s probably safe to say they’re on the hook for 2010 as well. On a side note, Lindsay Lohan owed $140,203.30 in just federal taxes in 2010? From what work, exactly? And are her legal fees nearly as high? Good thing those Lindsay Lohan Playboy pics just netted her nearly a million bucks. She may need a good chunk of that just to pay off the IRS. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

Courtney Robertson: Dating Her Way Through Hollywood?

It turns out that before she met Ben Flajnik, The Bachelor bad girl and alleged maneater Courtney Robertson dated more than one Hollywood hunk. Who are we talking out? These peeps, to name a few: Entourage cast member Adrian Grenier Desperate Housewives’ Jesse Metcalfe (below) Reese Witherspoon’s now-husband, agent Jim Toth Witherspoon apparently didn’t even know about her man’s long-ago dalliance with catty Courtney Robertson until returning from a trip to Europe this month. Not that she cares in the least. “It didn’t faze Reese,” a source says of the Oscar-winner, who has two kids and married a second time with the CAA agent, 41, nearly a year ago. “There’s no way Jim was close to serious about Courtney,” the source scoffs of the model. “I mean, how do you go from that chick to Reese?” Hmm.
