Meek Mill went jacking for beats and foreshadowed another diss to come in one fatal swoop in the “Kendrick You Next” freestyle. Contrary to the title, this track is aimed towards fellow Philadelphia MC Cassidy, who’s been taking shots at the MMG affiliate all year. Continue
Oprah, we were starting to get scared for you too. Oprah Winfrey Says She Was On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown Tyler deserves a humanitarian of the year award, because without him performing a captain save a ho with “The Haves And Have Nots,” Oprah would have had that nervous breakdown. According to The Toronto Sun Media mogul Oprah Winfrey forced herself to take a step back from her heavy workload last summer after realizing she was on the brink of a nervous breakdown as she struggled to turn her TV network into a success. The TV icon walked away from her hit talk show in May, 2011, after 25 years at the top, to focus on the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) with bosses from cable company Discovery Communications. However, the channel struggled to attract viewers in its first year on air and Winfrey was forced to take a serious look at reshuffling its programming line-up in order to appeal to audiences. The superstar admits she was really feeling the pressure to turn OWN’s fortunes around, but it was only when she interviewed Jason Russell, the man behind the high-profile KONY 2012 campaign, about his emotional breakdown which led to his bizarre naked rant and arrest last year, that she recognized she was experiencing similar mental issues. She tells People magazine, “Jason was talking about having a nervous breakdown, and I was thinking, ‘I have those symptoms’.” Winfrey’s breaking point came just days later as she headed into the OWN headquarters in Los Angeles to record voice-overs for her shows: “I remember closing my eyes while I was reading. I thought, ‘I cannot have another thing enter my brain.’ I needed to pull back.” She confesses the harsh press criticism of her network hit her hard, and she credits her longterm partner, Stedman Graham, with helping her soldier on to overcome the disappointing start. She says, “After 25 years of being number one, I had become accustomed to success. I didn’t expect failure. I was tested and I had to dig deep. The schadenfreude (pleasure from misfortune of others) was very painful for me, because I had never experienced it. “(Graham) was amazing. He said, ‘You can’t eve think about quitting. You have been in cruise control. It’s gonna turn around, but you’ve gotta do the work.’” Now that OWN is a success, will you be tuning in?
Just when we thought it was over… Frank Ocean Pens Chris Brown Diss Track To Migo’s “Versace” The beef between Chris Breezy and Frank Ocean dates back to January when reports surfaced that the two singers were involved in a posse fade outside of a Los Angeles studio . Reports varied as to what actually happened (some say Frank was jumped by Chris’ entourage, others state Breezy did the dirty work himself), but what is for sure is that these two don’t have any love for one another. Despite the fact that the physical altercation was 6 months ago, apparently there is still a flame lit in Frank’s soul (no pause intended), recently he released the lyrics to a verse that he wrote over the Migo’s hood anthem “Versace” that clearly takes a few shots at Chris Breezy. There is no audio of this track yet, so we’re not entirely sure if Frank is rapping or singing, but he leaves no doubt as to who he is talking about! Flip it over to read the verse. No Miley. People want you to stop twerking. Miley Cyrus Says People Tried To Make Her Nicki Minaj Miley actually gives white girls who have rhythm a bad name. We couldn’t imagine a white-twerking Nicki Minaj with multiple voices and those cotton candy wigs. Lord help us. According to US Magazine Miley Cyrus’ musical makeover is almost as divisive as her physical transformation. Once known for kid-friendly pop hits like “Start All Over” and “See You Again” during her days as a Disney Channel star, the rebellious 20-year-old shows off an ostensibly more mature side on her latest single, “We Can’t Stop.” The outspoken musician (whose fiance Liam Hemsworth recently called off their engagement, as exclusively reported by Us Weekly) tells the latest issue of Billboard that her new look and sound has sparked some unfair comparisons to her contemporaries. “A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj,” Cyrus says of the chart-topping rapper. “That’s not what I’m trying to do. I love ‘hood’ music, but my talent is as a singer.” Known for her love of twerking, Cyrus adds, “I can’t really be told what to do right now. I’m too young to go in and make someone else’s vision come to life. I want to go make my visions.” Though she’s often seen clubbing and sings about drug use in her latest single, Cyrus insists she has an unparalleled work ethic. “I never stop working, ever — I put my track list together this morning,” she tells Billboard. “I want my record to be the biggest record in the world, and I’ve given everything to get here, even down to friends and family and relationships — I’ve just put this music first.” “That’s been kind of a trip: It’s not like I’m losing who I am — I actually found out more about who I am by making this music,” she continues. “I’m going on a journey, and that’s more than a lot of 20-year-olds can say. And I’m still going to change so much. Because I’m not the same person I was six months ago — I’m not even the same person I was two weeks ago.” Though “We Can’t Stop” shot to the top of the iTunes charts when it was released June 3, the track received flak for its adult themes. Cyrus dismisses such criticisms, arguing that it’s important for her to be honest about her experiences. Cyrus’ full interview is featured in the latest issue of Billboard, on sale Monday, June 17. She loves hood music, but can’t make good music. Maybe she can do a twerk session for Jay Z and get the Rihanna treatment. We’ll take a Rihanna clone over Nicki any day. Wenn
According to The Huffington Post, the track list for Kanye West’s upcoming “Yeezus” album may have leaked early, but probably it didn’t. The music blog Beats…
