No rush to commit to split innings, insists Cricket Australia

• Format review ‘still a work in progress’ • ‘We need to ensure that ideas are practical and acceptable’ Cricket Australia will not rush into finalising its proposed revamp of the domestic one-day game. CA last week announced it would trial a split innings format in the Ford Ranger Cup with the long-term view of introducing it to one-day internationals. But players, including Mike Hussey and Ricky Ponting, said they would rather have the 50-over format retained. The CA chief executive, James Sutherland, said Australian and state players would be given a chance to provide their feedback on split-innings one-day cricket. “We will show players, including those now on the tour of England, the public research,” he said. “Cricket-lovers say that ODI cricket captures the broadest interest of the three formats, and it is supported with strong passion, but it is a game that needs better positioning and a format review if it is to remain popular in the long-term. “There has been a lot of public discussion since the CA board last week approved we go ahead with a format review, but this is still a work in progress. “The idea of split innings was popular with fans and we are keen at this stage to look at a 10 wickets-a-side, split-innings concept to see if it is feasible from public, player, broadcaster and commercial partners’ points of view. “We accept that we need to listen to what the public wants but we also need to be sure that ideas are practical, and most important, are acceptable to world cricket and capable in the long-term of being considered for international cricket.” Ponting, the Australia one-day captain, said he was against moving away from the traditional 50-overs-each match. “Personally, I wouldn’t like to see it go that way. I would like to see it remain as a traditional game of cricket,” he said. Forty wickets in the game, it almost goes away from the game of cricket. “I know Cricket Australia will be talking to the players and all the stakeholders involved in Australian cricket to come up with what they think is going to be the best set of playing conditions for the revamped competition that is going to start in Australia. “That’s where it is at the moment. There’s been a little bit of discussion around our team about that and what are the best playing conditions for the new format, and all that will come out in the wash over the next couple of weeks. As long as the players are well informed and involved in that decision-making then I’m sure the best result will be achieved.” Australia Cricket Team Cricket guardian.co.uk

Leave Lady Gaga Alone!

Can’t a rumored hermaphrodite just watch a ballgame in peace? Apparently, Lady Gaga decided to check out the Mets game Thursday in New York, which is cool, since she’s from New York, and celebrities go to games a lot. They usually get good seats, too, and because of that and merely being celebrities, are often photographed. It’s just sort of what happens in that situation. Well, apparently Lady Gaga of all people is not keen on this. When she showed up in her traditional costume, the ” Alejeandro ” singer took issue with people photographing her and had to be moved to a luxury suite. There, she continued to flip off the photographers. Wait … Lady Gaga doesn’t want her photo taken? We love the girl, but call us crazy here – when has Lady Gaga ever not clamored for attention? It’s part of her act. You can’t just turn it on and off at will. Showing up to a game in full “Telephone” garb is not exactly inconspicuous either. Did she really expect any different as one of the top stars in music? If there’s any silver lining here for Gaga, it’s that Kristen Stewart wins for worst paparazzi attack of the year … even though hers was strictly verbal.

Travis Garland: Perez Hilton ‘Kicked Off’ My ‘American Idol’ Break

‘There’s a spot open on ‘Idol,’ and I want you to fill it,’ the singer recalls blogger telling him of Wednesday night’s episode. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Travis Garland Photo: MTV News On Wednesday night (May 19), “American Idol” fans were introduced to Travis Garland, Perez Hilton’s new musical discovery . After getting his start as a member of the boy band NLT (alongside “Glee” star Kevin McHale), Garland is now hoping to ignite the pop world on his own — with help, of course, from the gossip blogger. Garland’s debut single, “Believe,” was produced by Nate “Danja” Hills (Britney Spears, Keri Hilson), and the budding star admitted his first taste of success has been overwhelming. “It’s been so much. I’m just trying to take it all in, trying not to get too distracted by everything else that’s going on,” Garland told MTV News during rehearsals for his “Idol” performance. Garland, who earned radio play as part of NLT with the Timbaland-produced “She Said, I Said,” recalled the morning he got the call to appear on “Idol.” “It was actually a wake-up call,” he explained. “I want to say it was a little over two weeks ago, and I had been in the studio super late the night before. Around 10 a.m., I looked at my phone, I had probably 10 e-mails, three missed phone calls,” he continued. “And then Perez [Hilton] called me and he was like, ‘Trav, I got some good news, I got some bad news.’ And I was like, ‘What’s the good news?’ And he was like, ‘Well, there’s a spot open on “American Idol,” and I want you to fill it. You think you can do it?’ ” Garland obviously said yes, and “it all kind of kicked off from there.” Although Garland is still a relative newcomer to the music business, he isn’t so sure he would’ve had what it takes to compete on “Idol” had he gone the traditional contestant route. “I don’t know, Simon would probably say something snarky,” he joked. “I really don’t know. I guess I would just have to do it to find out.” What did you think of Travis’ “Idol” performance? Let us know in the comments! Bring Down Monsanto…

Take action now and let's bring down Monsanto: 70% percent or more of our food contains genetically engineered food brought by the bio-tech giant: Monsanto. GMO is endangering people's health and our environment at an alarming rate. Cross-contamination is irreversible and good, organic crops are being jeopardized. These seeds are incredibly expensive compared to the traditional ones and have been genetically modified to produce their own pesticide, to survive the spraying of the: “Roundup”, a potent herbicide and to self terminate. This has lead our farmers to buy new GMO seeds each year and depend on Monsanto. As a result of this ruthless drive to use India as a testing ground for genetically modified crops, 125,000 farmers took their own lives. These people were driven to debt, to economic distress, homeless and landless. GMO has and is failing catastrophically. This company is persecuting, bullying and bringing farms to bankruptcy. GMO was never adequately tested for safety, actually more and more research shows its dangers to the human/animal health, polluting our crops and our water. Monsanto did use false advertising; Monsanto poisons the third world and privatizes water. Its employees have passed through the so-called revolving door many times, they rotated between this industry and the public agencies: Clarence Thomas, Gwendolyn S. King, Linda Fisher, Jim Travis, Linda Avery Strachanand, Toby Moffet , Marcia Hale, Donald Bandle, George H. Poste, Michael Kantor and Michael Taylor all bending rules, finding loopholes to assure this company profits. This technology is only exacerbating hunger, poverty, irreversible contamination and climate change in our world. Bring down Monsanto's monopoly on our food and a centralized agriculture. Bring down Monsanto's genetically engineered seeds. Bring down the use of harmful pesticides, herbicides and chemicals alike. Hold this company accountable for its damages to the world. Organic agriculture, permaculture and biodiversity are the only answer to sustainability, to the preservation of our environment and our health. We want you, as our government, as a body of representation of the people of the United States to invest billions subsidizing organic, environmental agriculture. Bring down Monsanto's poisoning, companies alike and the agrochemical industry once and for all as it is one of the greatest threats to the whole human race. Thank you. The Gossip Girl Pun Index: Wedding Bell Blues

Since the kids on Gossip Girl are too young to get married — but not too young to own hotels or work in the fashion industry — the traditional wedding episode that you’d expect to see in the third season of a series fell to the likes of Dorota the maid and her boyfriend, Vanya the doorman. And while their “bedding” — as Vanya called it in his best John Malkovich-in- Rounders accent — was adorable, it was like a daisy growing out of a garbage heap. For the rest of the characters, last night’s Gossip Girl , “The Unblairable Lightness of Being,” offered the usual array of lying, cheating, back-stabbing and even a little heartbreak (say it ain’t so, Blair and Chuck!). Oh, and puns. Lots of patented, Gossip Girl-voiced, puns. How did they all rank? To the list!
