It collided with Morgan’s limo, which was overturned and which then hit another tractor-trailer; in all, six cars were involved in the fatal mishap. You cannot be f***ing serious … Oscar Grant’s Friends Settle Lawsuit With BART For $175,000 Via AP Five friends of Oscar Grant, the man who was fatally shot by a San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer, have reached a deal to settle a federal lawsuit against the agency, officials said. Jack Bryson Jr., Nigel Bryson, Michael Greer, Carlos Reyes and Fernando Anicete Jr. will split $175,000 as part of the settlement reached late last month, their attorney John Burris said Tuesday. The BART board approved the settlement May 8, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said Wednesday. The men filed a federal civil rights lawsuit for $1.5 million in 2009 claiming excessive force and illegal detainment. Burris said Tuesday that the men are relieved the case is over. “This closes a very traumatic and tragic chapter for these young men,” he said. “Unfortunately, they will never get over witnessing their friend’s death.” Trost said the settlement closes the case for a “considerably smaller amount compared to what would have been a long and costly trial if allowed to move forward.” The five men were detained on BART’s Fruitvale Station platform in Oakland along with Grant, who was shot and killed by then-BART police officer Johannes Mehserle. If you’ll remember… Grant’s mother, Wanda Johnson, and Grant’s young daughter, Tatiana, also received financial settlements from BART totaling $2.8 million as a result of the shooting. That brings Oscar Grant’s life value to a grand total of just under $3 million. A recent episode of the smash HBO drama Game of Thrones featured a controversial scene which appeared to depict non-consensual sex between two siblings next to the body of their dead son. George R.R. Martin – author of the books upon which the series is based – immediately responded to criticism of the controversial rape scene clarifying that the action played out differently in the novel, but still defending the shocking decision on the part of the show’s producers. Now, actress Lena Headey – who plays Cersei Lannister, the object of her brother’s unwanted advances – has addressed the scene for the first time and her comments are likely to create more controversy. Attempting to help the audience identify with Cersei’s circumstances, Headey said: “She’s staring at the body of her dead son…she’s joined by her brother who’s also her lover, so, you know we’ve got bigger problems than the one everyone is talking about.” Many have taken issue with Headey’s claims that there were “bigger issues” in the scene than incestuous rape, but amazingly her defense of the scene gets even more un-PC: “There’s lust and desperation…there was this need,” Headey says, describing the character’s motivations. “It wasn’t right and yet it felt great and it played out the way it did.” She added, “And I was really happy with it.” Headey is right that there were many intermingling emotions and desires involved in the scene, but going forward, we would advise her to tread lightly when discussing it, so as not to seem flippant about the trauma endured by rape victims.
