Mark Cuban Apologizes to Family of Trayvon Martin, Stands by Controversial Remarks

Mark Cuban is not backing down. Speaking to Inc. magazine about the racist comment made by Donald Sterling over the past few weeks, along with the decision by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to ban the 80-year old for life , the Dallas Mavericks owner said the league is setting a dangerous precedent. Does it really want to take action against executives for their words and thoughts? “We’re all prejudiced in one way or another,” Cuban said. “If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. “And if on that side of the street, there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face – white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere – I’m walking back to the other side of the street. ” The Shark Tank star continued: “And the list goes on of stereotypes that we all live up to and are fearful of. So in my businesses, I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I’m not perfect. I know that I live in a glass house, and it’s not appropriate for me to throw stones.” Not long after making these comments, Cuban realized the mistake he made in using the hoodie example, considering Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in 2012. Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder after becoming suspicious of Martin – who was walking in his neighborhood while wearing a hooded sweatshirt – and then shooting him during a scuffle. “P/1: In hindsight I should have used different examples. I didn’t consider the Trayvon Martin family, and I apologize to them for that,” Cuban Tweeted last night. But aside from that apology, Cuban said he stands bu the “words and substance of the interview.” “I think that helping people improve their lives, helping people engage with people they may fear or may not understand,” he wrote. “And helping people realize that while we all may have our prejudices and bigotries.” Concluded the billionaire: “we have to learn that it’s an issue that we have to control, that it’s part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it.”

WTF: Kobe Bryant Allegedly Disrespects Miami Heat Team For Trayvon Martin Support [QUOTE]

Really??? “Culturally Ignorant” Kobe Bryant Speaks On Miami Heat Trayvon Martin Hoodie Pic–”Don’t Jump To Someone’s Defense Just Because They Are Black”

He should probably just shoot in the gym and STFU … Kobe Bryant Shares Thoughts On Miami Heat Trayvon Martin Hoodie Photo Via ColorLines In the March 31 edition of the New Yorker there’s a great profile of Kobe Bryant by Ben McGrath. In it, Bryant talks about aging out of his Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers, and how he thinks his fame is “pretty fucking cool” for a kid who grew up in Italy and moved to suburban Philly as a teenager. Throughout his career, Bryant’s been talking about as an outsider, specifically when it comes to being the most famous in the world in a sport that’s overwhelmingly black. It’s given him a politically moderate stance on things, which was on display when McGrath brought up the subject of LeBron James posting a photo online of the Heat players dressed in hoodies in solidarity with Trayvon Martin. I won’t react to something just because I’m supposed to, because I’m an African-American,” he said. “That argument doesn’t make any sense to me. So we want to advance as a society and a culture, but, say, if something happens to an African-American we immediately come to his defense? Yet you want to talk about how far we’ve progressed as a society? Well, we’ve progressed as a society, then don’t jump to somebody’s defense just because they’re African-American. You sit and you listen to the facts just like you would in any other situation, right? So I won’t assert myself.” The profile goes on to quote former NFL running back Jim Brown, who at one point said, “[Kobe] is somewhat confused about culture, because he was brought up in another country.” Bryant then defended himself on Twitter, writing, “A ‘Global’ African American is an inferior shade to ‘American’ African American?? #hmmm. that doesn’t sound very #Mandela or #DrKing sir.” Setting aside a minute the fact that Bryant doesn’t seem know much about the Trayvon Martin case, what strikes me about this exchange is his insistence on questioning what it means to be black in America, particularly from the perspective of someone who grew up elsewhere. In this vein I think of Zade Smith and Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie’s recent discussion at the Schomburg, where Adichie talked at length about coming to the United States from Nigeria and learning how deeply embedded race is in American culture. What sets Bryant apart is his stingy insistence on clinging to a “post-racial” identity, this very old, conservative notion that black people should not be treated differently in this country — despite all of the evidence, like Martin’s death, that they are. People didn’t stand up for Trayvon Martin just because he was a black boy, they did it because his death so sharply illustrated the dangers of being a black boy in America. We’re not surprised at anything that comes out of Kobe’s mouth, but what do you think of his assertion that we should not defend black people just because they are black? Image via AP

No Isht Sherlock: George Zimmerman Juror Says He Deserves To Be In Prison

If you wouldn’t have let him free, none of this would have happened. George Zimmerman Juror Says He Belongs In Prison It took George Zimmerman pointing a gun on his estranged wife and girlfriend for the juror to speak up? According to TMZ: How’s this for irony … George Zimmerman belongs in prison … this, coming from one of the jurors in the Trayvon Martin case who kept him OUT of prison. Juror B29 — who identifies herself as Maddy — tells TMZ, she always had a bad feeling about Zimmerman, despite finding him not guilty of murdering Trayvon … a verdict she begrudgingly reached through a strict interpretation of the law. Now, she says Zimmerman’s domestic violence arrest is proof he’s not freedom-worthy … “God is showing George’s true side … [George] is continuing to dig himself a bigger grave.” The juror believes Zimmerman will continue to commit violent acts until someone lays down the law … telling us, “He NEEDS to do some type of time … He thinks he is invincible.” Where was this common sense during his trial when it mattered?

SMH: George Zimmerman’s Wife Shellie Admits That She “Has Doubts” About His Innocence In Trayvon Martin Case

George Zimmerman’s Wife Had Doubts About His Innocence In Trayvon Martin Case The wife of acquitted child murderer George Zimmerman is speaking out for the first time since the domestic violence incident between herself, her husband and her father earlier this month. via NY Daily News In the midst of divorce proceedings against husband George Zimmerman, Shellie Zimmerman said she has doubts about what really happened in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin last year, she told Matt Lauer in an exclusive interview. “I’m conflicted on that,” Shellie told Lauer on TODAY Thursday. “I believe the evidence, but this revelation in my life has really helped me take the blinders off and start to see things differently.” Lauer pressed further, asking, “So you now doubt his innocence, at least the fact that he was acting in self-defense on the night that Trayvon Martin was killed?” “I think anyone would doubt that innocence because I don’t know the person that I’ve been married to,” Shellie responded. “I have doubts, but I also believe the evidence.” Despite these doubts, Shellie vehemently denies that George profiled the teen. “He did not profile Trayvon Martin,” she said. The “revelation” Shellie referenced came after a domestic dispute between the Zimmermans. So after being a ride or die for this scumbag and even spending time in jail for lying for him, she wants to “speak out.” SMH. If there were ever a case of “too little, too late,” this is definitely it right here.

Chris Brown Likens Himself to Trayvon Martin, Says Jay Z Gets a "Pass"

In a new interview with JET, Chris Brown compares himself to Trayvon Martin and says that Jay Z, despite his own shady past, gets a pass from the media. The star, claiming shared experiences with Martin, says, “I identify with Trayvon 100 percent as far as living in 2013 and still dealing with blatant racism.” “This generation is so used to racism that it’s normal; we don’t care. We aren’t on drugs or catching AIDS, but they still look at us as n–gas,” Brown adds. As for his reputation, the singer claims he’s unfairly singled out . “No disrespect, because I’m a fan, but nobody brings up the fact that [Jay Z] stabbed somebody and sold drugs,” observes Brown. “He gets a pass.” Regardless of how you feel about that comparison, Brown’s anger issues are well-documented, and he says he’s worked hard to overcome them: “You have to go through the struggle before you can get to the good part. I don’t try to last out at people, or be as mad or impulsive as I used to be.” Overwhelmed by scrutiny, Brown feels as if he’s been pushed over the edge, and appears to liken himself to a slave with the following comment: “I got to the point where it’s only so much you can take from the master, you feel me?” he asks JET . “I’ve taken my fair share of lashings.” Chris Brown Drunk Rant Regarding the unending Rihanna and Karrueche situation, he says, “Relationships are the most difficult part” for him, but he’s handled them like a man. “I was honest with those two girls and I put out that video (above),” he says. Brown, who calls himself single now, admits, “My ex and I broke up because of the ‘situation’ and she had moved on. I fell in love with another girl.” “Then my ex came back, so it was like, ‘What is a man to do?'” “I told them both the truth. I didn’t do the sucker role.”  What do you think of Chris Brown ‘s comments regarding Rihanna, Karrueche, Jay Z and Trayvon Martin, the unarmed teen who was shot and killed in 2012? Jesus Take The Wheel: Woman Dies After Falling Six Stories From Dorm Room While Visiting Friend

What a scary way to die . Woman Dies After Falling From Dorm Room We feel bad for her family. According to Mail Online A 19-year-old woman died yesterday after falling from a sixth-story college dorm window. Police said Stephanie Ann Lehr was trying to climb onto a rooftop from the room on the University of Minnesota campus when she fell. The Hennepin County medical examiner found she died of blunt-force injuries. She fell from the window into a courtyard at Yudof Hall about 4:30pm on Saturday and was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where she died the following day. Police, who said they are treating the death as an accident, say Miss Lehr was trying to reach a gravel rooftop about three feet away when she fell. She was not a university student and her friend was the only other person in the room at the time. A screen had been removed from a window before the accident. Tim Busse, communications director for University Services, told The Star Tribune that the screens were not designed to be removed. He told the newspaper: ‘We take safety very seriously for our students and those who come to visit our campus. This wasn’t a safe thing to do.’ Authorities say Miss Lehr’s friend has been moved to another room. The Star Tribune reports alcohol was found in the room, but police are awaiting the results of tests to determine if Miss Lehr had imbibed. A university spokesperson said in a statement: ‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. ‘We hope students will use this as a reminder to be protective and caring of their friends and classmates’, according to the Star Tribune. This is a sad story, but why did she have to jump on the roof? Why didn’t her friend stop her? KSTP

Really? George Zimmerman Will Not Be Charged In Violent Gun Incident After Wife Recants Story

Not again . George Zimmerman Will Not Be Charged In Violent Gun Incident This guy keeps having brushes with the law and getting away scott-free……Wtf? According to TMZ Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells us, Shellie and her father have declined to press charges and George will NOT be arrested. He said, “My understanding is that she never saw his firearm and that is what she is now telling us. So George Zimmerman is free to go and will not be arrested at this time.” The chief of police where Zimmerman was arrested isn’t feeling him either. Police Chief Steve Bracknell tells TMZ, he’s frustrated Shellie Zimmerman changed her story. Chief Bracknell says of Zimmerman, “The guy just can’t stay out of the news” — referring to the Trayvon Martin killing, speeding tickets and now this. Bracknell says, “You’d think he’d get the heck out of Dodge.” We’re told Shellie recanted her story after talking to her lawyer. The Chief said because of her flip-flopping, “There was not enough to affect an arrest, unfortunately.” Bracknell seems concerned that Zimmerman is bent on causing trouble, saying, “It’s smoke, smoke smoke. Is there a fire somewhere? Lord knows.” We asked him if he’d feel safe if Zimmerman was his next door neighbor. The Chief was clear … “I would not want to be the neighbor of George Zimmerman.” We’re with the chief on this one. Life has given Zimmerman 9 lives. The gun-happy wankster needs to learn to stay out of trouble.
