‘American Idol’ Judge Randy Jackson Has ‘Crazy Taste’

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News As season 11 of “American Idol” chugs along, it’s clear that Jennifer Lopez , Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have found their footing and place with one another. The threesome is already into their second season as the show’s brain trust, and J.Lo is revealing just what makes sharing the judging panel with “Idol” vet Jackson so great. “He has all different kinds of sunglasses. There was one pair where I was like, ‘Those are too big … those are just too big!’ and he’s like, ‘I love these,’ ” she laughed to MTV News during a recent chat about the Fox reality singing competition. “The thing I love about Randy is he’s always so positive, even when he gives negative criticism on the show, ’cause he’s the hardest of all of us.” While Jackson is straight up when it comes to his feelings about the contestants’ talent — or lack thereof — it’s his cool “dawg” demeanor that makes his criticism a much easier pill to swallow. “He’ll straight-out tell you that was awful. We won’t say it,” she said, adding that she and Tyler don’t verbalize their feelings as straightforwardly. “Even though he’s that guy, he’s the most positive and the most great-energy person ever. He can laugh at himself so genuinely at the same time. He’s just an amazing person.” As amazing as his judging style is Jackson’s aforementioned sense of style, which reaches far beyond spectacles. “And he loves crazy sunglasses and I love them on him. Without the glasses, it’s not really Randy — that and the shoes. Daniel Radcliffe Speaks To LBGT Teens In New Trevor Project PSA

The “Harry Potter” actor successfully carried a history-making franchise on his shoulders for more than a decade, charmed audiences on the Great White Way with his critically acclaimed performance in “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” and is making great post-“Potter” career choices. Not only is he generally talented and charming, but he has also put his star power behind the Trevor Project , which is a nonprofit organization that offers support to sexual minority youth, particularly those experiencing emotional difficulty dealing with their sexuality who need someone to talk to. The Trevor Project also endeavors to foster safe and inclusive environments in homes and schools. Radcliffe’s latest work with the organization is a 30-second PSA that aired Tuesday night during “Glee” and MTV News now has exclusively online. In the spot, Radcliffe addresses the very important issue of supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. “I’m Daniel Radcliffe, and I believe that reaching out for help is the bravest thing a person can do,” Radcliffe says in the PSA. “If you are struggling and need support, call the Trevor Lifeline at 1-866-488-7386. It’s free and confidential, and trained counselors are there to listen 24/7 without judgment.” The 22-year-old said in a statement that his work with the Trevor Project has taught him the importance of being a straight ally and offering his support. “When we let someone know that we accept them for who they are and that we are safe to talk to, we can help save lives,” he said. “It’s as simple as that.” Radcliffe has been involved with the Trevor Project since 2009, appearing in public service announcements for the group’s prevention hot line and speaking out in support of LGBT youth. Radcliffe has called his work with the Trevor Project “one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I’m associated with.”

Adam Lambert To Return to ‘American Idol’

Singer will unveil an acoustic version of ‘Aftermath’ to benefit The Trevor Project. By Shawn Adler Adam Lambert Photo: MTV News All season long on “American Idol,’ top ten finalist James Durbin has had to endure comparisons to season eight runner-up Adam Lambert . This week, he’ll get to make those comparisons himself. Lambert will return to the Idol stage Thursday evening (March 10) to perform an acoustic version of “Aftermath,” according to the singer’s personal Twitter page . Immediately following the show, the song will be made available exclusively on Lambert’s website, with all proceeds from the sale going to The Trevor Project, an organization which offers support for and aims to prevent suicide by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered teens. “In order to fully benefit the Trevor Project, the remix will only be available on my site. [But it will also] be on iTunes eventually,” the 29-year-old singer tweeted . The release will mark the first time that “Aftermath” is available as a single in the United States, and the fourth single overall from Lambert’s 2009 album “For Your Entertainment,” following the record’s title track, “Whataya Want from Me” and “If I Had You.” “[Aftermath] was written about finding the courage to be honest with yourself and the people who love you,” Lambert said in a statement. “It’s about facing adversity and taking risks in the name of personal liberation. The song takes on different meanings to different listeners.” While “Idol” looks back with Lambert, the openly gay singer continues looking forward, hard at work on his next album, he told MTV News . “I’m in talks, so it’s all kind of being conceptualized right now, and what we’re hoping for is maybe by the fall,” Lambert said of his sophomore effort. “So, I’m going to take my time and really write the most personal songs, the most powerful songs. ‘Deathly Hallows’ star tells MTV News that tragic recent events have given way to ‘more publicity’ and ‘more awareness.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News Daniel Radcliffe has long proven to be a dedicated activist when it comes to crisis support and suicide prevention for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youths. He taped a public-service announcement for the Trevor Project and has spoken out on issues ranging from bullying to the importance of acceptance. The 21-year-old actor tells MTV News he’s watched in horror as a wave of gay teen suicides has swept the country, but he sees some cause for hope in the wake of these tragedies. “The attention and the more publicity and the more awareness that can be raised by everybody — it is such a good cause and such an important thing,” the “Harry Potter” star said. Radcliffe has also been pleased to see how messages conveyed by campaigns like “Love is Louder” and “It Gets Better” have cropped up in recent weeks in response to the suicides, transcending matters of sexuality to encompass all of those who’ve experienced persecution. “What’s interesting to me is it has taken on a wider meaning than just the Trevor Project and just people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered,” he explained. “It’s taken on, for everyone who has ever felt victimized or ostracized by the people in their class or in their community, it’s taken on a wider meaning, which I think is amazing.” The Trevor Project was inspired by the story of a gay teen who attempted to take his own life, and Radcliffe is heartened to see similar tragedy-into-opportunity activism springing forth from recent events. “It is, I think, indicative of the spirit of the organization that is the Trevor Project, that out of such tragic circumstances as we’ve seen over the last few months, they are managing to push forward to a brighter solution to this problem,” he said. Some people watch them, some watch anything but them, and a small-but-increasingly vocal minority would undoubtedly love to have Quidditch included in competition. Recently, we caught up with “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe who, while discussing his work with the Trevor Project (a nonprofit suicide- and crisis-prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth), was eager to express some thoughts that should delight all three factions. “As a Brit, the winter Olympics aren’t something you get all heads-up about,” the London-born star explained. “But I have been watching a bit of the hockey.” Excuse us? The boy wizard is a fan of the blue-collar sport overflowing with bruises, blood and beer-soaked fans? But wait, it gets weirder. “I’ve been amazed at how much I’ve been [enjoying] curling,” Radcliffe said of another sport he likes watching, one that is as intrinsically Canadian as it is endearingly silly-looking. “[I like it] just because it demands so little of you to watch it.” Always diplomatic, the 20-year-old star stopped short of dissing curling. “It’s a highly skilled thing, I’m sure,” Radcliffe said of curling. “But to actually watch it is very easy. It’s like you’re being hypnotized or something! “It’s sweeping!” he laughed. “It’s that thing where they go really slow — and then they go mental for a few seconds! I love it. So I’ve been getting into the curling; Sweden got caned last night by Canada.” Radcliffe loves the Olympic sport so much, in fact, that he said once Harry’s Quidditch days are over, he may trade in his Nimbus 2000 for a different sort of broom. “I could be [a curling athlete]; yeah, there we go,” Radcliffe laughed. “When ‘Potter’ finishes, I can do that.” Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: Daniel Radcliffe
