NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Fats Domino , the amiable rock ‘n’ roll pioneer whose steady, pounding piano and easy baritone helped change popular music while honoring the traditions of the Crescent City, died Tuesday. He was 89. Mark Bone, chief investigator with the Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, coroner’s office, said Domino died of natural causes at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. In appearance, he was no Elvis Presley. He stood 5-feet-5 and weighed more than 200 pounds, with a wide, boyish smile and a haircut as flat as an album cover. But Domino sold more than 110 million records, with hits including “Blueberry Hill,” ”Ain’t It a Shame” and other standards of rock ‘n’ roll. He was one of the first 10 honorees named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Rolling Stone Record Guide likened him to Benjamin Franklin, the beloved old man of a revolutionary movement. His dynamic performance style and warm vocals drew crowds for five decades. One of his show-stopping stunts was playing the piano while standing, throwing his body against it with the beat of the music and bumping the grand piano across the stage. Domino’s 1956 version of “Blueberry Hill” was selected for the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry of historic sound recordings worthy of preservation. The preservation board noted that Domino insisted on performing the song despite his producer’s doubts, adding that Domino’s “New Orleans roots are evident in the Creole inflected cadences that add richness and depth to the performance.” Domino became a global star but stayed true to his hometown, where his fate was initially unknown after Hurricane Katrina struck in August 2005. It turned out that he and his family were rescued by boat from his home, where he lost three pianos and dozens of gold and platinum records, along with other memorabilia. Many wondered if he would ever return to the stage. Scheduled to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2006, he simply tipped his hat to thousands of cheering fans. But in May 2007, he was back, performing at Tipitina’s music club in New Orleans. Fans cheered — and some cried — as Domino played “I’m Walkin’,” ”Ain’t It a Shame,” ”Shake, Rattle and Roll,” ”Blueberry Hill” and a host of other hits. That performance was a highlight during several rough years. After losing their home and almost all their belongings to the floods, his wife of more than 50 years, Rosemary, died in April 2008. Domino moved to the New Orleans suburb of Harvey after the storm but would often visit his publishing house, an extension of his old home in the Lower 9th Ward, inspiring many with his determination to stay in the city he loved. “Fats embodies everything good about New Orleans,” his friend David Lind said in a 2008 interview. “He’s warm, fun-loving, spiritual, creative and humble. You don’t get more New Orleans than that.” The son of a violin player, Antoine Domino Jr. was born on Feb. 26, 1928, to a family that grew to include nine children. As a youth, he taught himself popular piano styles — ragtime, blues, and boogie-woogie — after his cousin left an old upright in the house. Fats Waller and Albert Ammons were early influences. He quit school at age 14 and worked days in a factory while playing and singing in local juke joints at night. In 1949, Domino was playing at the Hideaway Club for $3 a week when he was signed by the Imperial record company. He recorded his first song, “The Fat Man,” in the back of a tiny French Quarter recording studio. “They call me the Fat Man because I weigh 200 pounds,” he sang. “All the girls, they love me, ’cause I know my way around.” In 1955, he broke into the white pop charts with “Ain’t it a Shame” — but actually sang the lyrics as “ain’t that a shame.” The song was covered blandly by Pat Boone as “Ain’t That a Shame” and rocked out years later by Cheap Trick. Domino enjoyed a parade of successes through the early 1960s, including “Be My Guest” and “I’m Ready.” Another hit, “I’m Walkin,’” became the debut single for Ricky Nelson. Domino appeared in the rock ‘n’ roll film “The Girl Can’t Help It” and was among the first black performers to be featured in popular music shows, starring with Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers . He also helped bridge rock ‘n’ roll and other styles — even country/western, recording Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya” and Bobby Charles’ “Walkin’ to New Orleans.” Like many of his peers, Domino’s popularity tapered off in the 1960s as British and psychedelic rock held sway. Domino told Ebony magazine that he stopped recording because companies wanted him to update his style. “I refused to change,” he said. “I had to stick to my own style that I’ve always used or it just wouldn’t be me.” Antoine and Rosemary Domino raised eight children in the same ramshackle neighborhood where he grew up, but they did it in style — in a white mansion, trimmed in pink, yellow and lavender. The front double doors opened into an atrium with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and ivory dominos set in a white marble floor. In 1988, all of New Orleans seemed to be talking about him after he reportedly paid in cash for two Cadillacs and a $130,000 Rolls-Royce. When the salesman asked if he wanted to call his bank about financing, Domino smiled and said, “I am the bank.” In 1998, he became the first purely rock ‘n’ roll musician to be awarded the National Medal for the Arts. But he cited his age and didn’t make the trip to the White House to get the medal from President Clinton. That was typical. Aside from rare appearances in New Orleans, he dodged the spotlight in his later years, refusing to appear in public or even to give interviews. Like BlackAmericaWeb.com on Facebook . Not every couple on 90 Day Fiance ends up as bitter and full of mutual loathing as, say, Danielle Mullins and Mohamed Jbali. But that doesn’t mean that every couple gets their happily ever after, either. Kirlyam and Alan Cox, however, are one of those beautiful exceptions. They lived the dream and made it and are a happy couple. And this summer, we told you that Kirlyam was pregnant . They were due in September, but sometimes the best things take a little extra time to prepare. (And yes, of course there are baby pictures) There are schemers and cheaters and toxic relationships left and right on 90 Day Fiance . But we can’t forget about the good relationships, too. Alan Cox was doing his work as a Mormon missionary in Brazil when he met Kirlyam. The two of them hit it off. And though there were issues — Kirlyam may have looked a bit like a mail-order bride to some of Alan’s peers, while marrying Kirlyam meant leaving her family behind in Brazil for Kirlyam — they went through with their engagement and got married. Honestly, we’ve loved watching the two of them be adorable nerds together on Instagram, whether they were going out to see Wonder Woman or geeking out about Harry Potter . The most dramatic part of their relationship, in our estimation, is that Kirlyam’s family couldn’t afford the trip and had to watch a livestream of Kirlyam and Alan getting hitched. In fact, the only downside to these two is that their high-on-love, low-on-drama relationship doesn’t make them as juicy fodder for the 90 Day Fiance cameras (or their spin-offs). But check out their latest adorable development! Baby Liam was born on the 6th of October, 2017. Alan Cox took to Instagram to share the wonderful news: “Welcome to the world Liam Jordan da Costa Cox. Born 10/06/17 at 7:57 pm. 6 lbs 15 oz 20 inches long. Baby and momma are doing great. I’m so proud of you @kirlyam_. You are a true warrior. I love you so much!” He also translated it, like most of his updates about Kirlyam, into Portuguese for Kirlyam’s relatives. Awww! She pushed for twenty hours , which is enough to impress us but the thought of that makes us want to curl up and die. Sharing an up-close photo of precious baby Liam, Alan shared the experience of every new parent. “Loving life right now! Well except the no sleep part.. hahahahaha but then I look at Liam and suddenly I’m not so tired.” He’s so cute! Alan Cox elaborated about Kirlyam’s labor experience. “I do not have the words to describe what I feel for this wonderful woman. I am so proud of her. She was an absolute warrior in the delivery room. After 20 hours of active labor she still had the energy and drive to sacrifice her body for Liam.” We can only imagine how tough it was for Kirlyam, especially given the difference in stature between herself and her husband. (Not every big baby becomes a tall adult, but there’s something to be said for the effort of pushing a very tall man’s baby out of a very small woman’s uterus) Alan Cox continued: “I will forever be grateful and love this woman for all time and eternity. @kirlyam_ thank you” These two are so sweet with each other. That tribute is even more precious than Alan’s glowing face as he shopped for baby clothes during the summer. And to think that mere days before, the two had been throwing up their hands and wondering when Liam, due in September, would ever enter the world! Kirlyam made her own, much more succinct post. Again, her baby was born less than a week ago, and if we’d just pushed for 20 hours, you wouldn’t catch us so much as tapping “like” on Instagram. “Welcome to the world Liam. We love you so very much!!!!” She included some blue hearts and, of course, a Portuguese translation. The next time that 90 Day Fiance makes you feel cynical about relationships, about marriage, and about the show itself, maybe think of this growing family. As much drama as the Kardashian clan has kicked up in 2017 thus far, Kendall has been linked to relatively little of it. But that ill-thought out, tone-deaf commercial where she joined the happiest protest ever to end police brutality with a Pepsi was a pretty bad movie that the public side-eyeing her hard for months. On the season 14 premiere of Keeping with the Kardashians , she got a chance to speak about the backlash. It was a pretty emotional moment for the model because she had let other members of her family speak on the matter until now. “I would never purposely hurt someone, ever,” Kendall tearfully said during a confessional, finding it hard to organize her thoughts. “I would, obviously–if I knew this was gonna be the outcome, I would have never done something like this. But you don’t know when you’re in the moment, and like, it was the most … like, it was … like, it was so … like, I just felt so f*cking stupid.” When Pepsi first came to her, Kendall saw it as a great opportunity that she would be a fool to pass up. “When I first got this offer … I mean, it’s a huge company. The people I was following were so iconic and amazing,” Kendall explained. “Michael Jackson has done it, Britney Spears has done it, Beyoncé has done it, Pink. The list goes on. So to get something like that was just … It was so exciting.” After the commercial debuted, things quickly soured. It flopped with potential customers because it was tone-deaf about important social issues as it centered Whiteness while trying to use the tension between people of color and law enforcement as a vehicle to push their product. “After I saw the reaction and I read what people had to say about it, I most definitely saw what went wrong,” she admitted, adding that she’s only commenting now because she had no idea what to say at the time. “I was so stuck, and I really didn’t know what to do, and I completely shut down.” More than anything, Kendall expressed how awful she felt about what the ad implied about her attitude towards people of color and serious issues they face. She said, “The fact that I would offend other people or hurt other people was definitely not my intent and that’s what got me the most, is that I would ever make anyone else upset.” RELATED STORIES: Kendall Jenner Lands The September Cover & #RIPVogue Starts On Twitter Notorious B.I.G.’s Estate Hits Kendall And Kylie Jenner With A Cease & Desist CHICK CHAT: Did Pepsi & Kendall Jenner Really Think They Could Save The World?

Source: Bravo / Getty It was a short visit to Barcelona for Porsha Williams , who exited the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast trip early. It went down in Barcelona, so Porsha had to head home. According to Love B. Scott , she got into a huge fight with none other than Marlo Hampton on the cast trip. Reportedly, things got ugly when the two got into a verbal altercation and Porsha pointed an object in Marlo’s face. Marlo took the object from Porsha, who then jumped at her. Porsha never did get her hands on Marlo, but security did have to separate the ladies. Porsha promptly hopped a plane back to Atlanta. B. Scott reports that producers booted her form the trip, but Porsha implied on Instagram that she wasn’t sent home so much as she opted to leave. Porsha’s had a combative past on RHOA, and we all remember how she dragged Kenya Moore across the floor for pointing a scepter in her face during an RHOA reunion. Oh, how the tables have turned! Speaking of Kenya, she never made to Barcelona with the ladies. According to TMZ.com, Bravo snatched her invite for the trip because she wouldn’t film scenes leading up to trip with her husband, Marc Daly . Kenya was filmed participating in cast talks planning the trip, but she won’t join them on this season’s international excursion. This could mean big trouble and a smaller check for Kenya as the RHOA cast is paid per episode. It’s unclear if Bravo is doing any filming back in Atlanta with Kenya now. Producers have tried to force Kenya into doing scenes with her husband, but he’s supposedly uninterested in appearing on the show. There have been rumblings that if she doesn’t get her new hubby on camera, producers have threatened to take her peach and kick her off the show.
