The Bachelor really cranked up the absurdity this week, with girls skiing in San Francisco in bikinis, a contestant leaving voluntarily, one from last season inexplicably returning only to be rejected the same night, one fainting during the rose ceremony (!) and more. In the end, Ben Flajnik narrowed the field to 15 women, with the rest of us wondering what lengths this awesomely terrible “reality” show will go to next. As she strolled to and from church services Sunday, Kate Middleton’s Christmas fashion turned heads as expected – but not just for her magenta hat and coat. Adding some holiday sparkle to her already fashionable display was a pair of stunning earrings just visible underneath the Duchess’ (Jane Corbett designed) hat. They are from Kiki McDonough, and were bought from the designer’s store in London, England. Retail price: $3,000. A Christmas gift from Prince William, perhaps? The designer, who also made jewelry for Prince William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales, didn’t want to comment at length but confirmed the pieces are hers – and that the stones consist of “green amethysts surrounded by diamonds on a diamond hoop.” It’s not the first time Kate has worn McDonough’s jewelry, either. She has two other pairs of earrings from the store: pear shaped citrines hanging from an 18-carat gold hoops and white topaz studs surrounded by diamonds. A Boston-area woman sparked a potential airline security threat this week when she tried to take a cupcake on a plane. The frosting? Too gel-like for TSA! Rebecca Hains was able to pass through Logan Airport security with two cupcakes, but she was stopped on the way back from Las Vegas with one of them. Hains said she had received the cupcakes as a gift and after eating one on the trip out west, decided to save the other for the flight back. NOT SO FAST! No word on how the first one tasted, or what flavor frosting was on it. Cupcake Confiscated at Airport “In general, cakes and pies are allowed in carry-on luggage,” said TSA spokesman James Fotenos, adding they were looking into why this treat was taken. Good news: Hains contacted the cupcake company, Wicked Good Cupcakes of Cohasset, Mass., which is shipping her a whole new batch free of charge. Bad news: TSA is still making up rules as they go in every airport.
Kim Kardashian is denying a series of celebrity gossip reports that she attended a fashion show and spent a fortune on herself during her recent visit to Haiti . The star took to her blog to shoot down “malicious” rumors about her trip to the Caribbean country, which was hit by a earthquake in 2010, with her mom. She and Kris Jenner traveled there for positive PR to learn more about the charity We Advance, not for a fashion show, which has been rumored this week. “Our mission was to learn more about [Maria Bello’s] charity, We Advance,” she says , “and meet the Haitian people who have made such amazing progress since the devastating earthquake in 2010, and celebrate the women of Haiti.” Kim says they “inspired me more than I ever could have anticipated.” When Kardashian returned, she says she saw “malicious” reports that say she “spent a fortune” on herself in Haiti … and was, like, so offended, because how could ANYONE possibly think Kim would put herself first in any situation? “While my experience was completely life-changing … a very emotional and surprisingly positive journey I will never forget, some have tried to tarnish the motive behind my visit by writing completely ridiculous and untrue things,” Kim Kardashian laments. The fortune she supposedly spent? She says this: “The truth is that I was at the Haitian Artisan Fair, where the amazing men and women who make their jewelry and crafts sell them to visitors to make a living, and I bought some beautiful jewelry!” In the end, she said, she had a positive experience trying to give back. “I have some really great stories and photos from my trip and I’m so excited to share them with you all,” she wrote … and we’re sure she will share them, early and often, in between plugs for various products. Just kidding. Probably.

Hope he enjoyed that wiener because when he gets to jail…nevermind. Charles Nowden, a 48-year old man from Mansfield, Texas, took a trip to the movies that he will never forget. Nowden now faces up to 80 years in prison for passing on a counterfeit $20 bill to buy a hotdog and some popcorn during his trip to the movies. Nowden had another $120 in counterfeit bills with him, which authorities say was part of a series of crimes he has committed over the last 20 years. “Charles Nowden was a career cargo-thief who needed to be brought to justice,” Assistant District Attorney Dawn Ferguson, said in a statement. “The auto theft task force and the district attorney’s office are pleased to see that his lifetime of stealing is over.” Nowden has been convicted, and the judge now has to decide the scope of his punishment. He faces up to life in prison because he has prior convictions and two pending felony theft cases. He will be eligible for parole in 15 years. Nowden claims that the bills were given to him at a local gas station when he got change for a $100 bill. He feels that the pending theft cases from 2007 and an arrest back in July made him a target for authorities seeking to get him on anything. “This has been going on for four years. They would never take me to trial. They were harassing me. They were harassing my family. People I care about wouldn’t come around any more because they were harassing them.” We get that he did something wrong, but 80 years?! And Lindsay Lohan can’t even force her way into jail.
