By Jocelyn Vena Lo Bosworth Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images “The Hills” finale left everyone a little speechless Tuesday night when, during the final scene, the producers revealed that Kristin and Brody’s goodbye scene was shot on a backlot in Hollywood. It was, as Lo Bosworth previously said, a “spectacular” ending to a show that had fans wondering week after week if the drama on the show was real.

Zuckerman, Beckel Reveal Previously Undisclosed Ties to Obama WH

The confluence between the Obama administration and the journalists who cover it can leave news consumers wondering if they’re getting the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Two prominent media personalities — liberal Fox News Channel commentator Bob Beckel and media mogul Mort Zuckerman, owner of the New York Daily News — have recently let slip that they have worked closely with the Obama administration. Neither disclose this fact with regularity. Indeed, their recent admissions were revelatory. Zuckerman, a self-described Obama supporter, has written at least one speech for the President. Beckel, who worked with David Axelrod during the campaign, is now an adviser in some capacity to the White House.

So You Think You Can Dance Elimination: Blame Jason Mraz!

The adorable Alexie Agdeppa was sent home on So You Think You Can Dance last night, and I didn’t buy judge Mia Michaels’s explanation that Alexie’s hard work “didn’t show” during her performance. No way. Her performance was fine — if uneventful — but I think the whimsical trills of Jason Mraz blew it for her. When you hear his faux-reggae styling, do you want to dance the dance of a lifetime? No. You want to stay in Aeropostale a little longer and pick out another $7.99 pair of cargo shorts. It’s mall music, ladies! That’s just the truth. Whatever the reason, Alexie is gone — and we have video of her ill-fated dance and Mia Michaels’s comments after the jump.

REVIEW: Winter’s Bone a Little Too Pleased With its Own Folky Bleakness

Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone is one of those movies — like last year’s inner-city down-a-thon, Precious — that can’t quite make a distinction between profundity and plain old bleakness. The story of a 17-year-old girl in rural Missouri who’s desperate to find her ex-con father (he’s skipped bail, endangering not just the family’s modest house but its very survival), Winter’s Bone often feels stiffly self-conscious: Even though it’s based on a novel, it has the aura of a gritty documentary, as if Granik distrusted the idea that fiction alone could ever be good enough to get to the truth of human lives.
