First Look: Shia LaBeouf Gets His Prohibition On in The Wettest County in the World

For a lot of film aficionados, The Wettest County in the World is one of the most highly anticipated projects currently in production. The adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s Prohibition-set novel has attracted a host top-line talent — including Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman — and director John Hillcoat, meaning it should be equal parts gritty and violent. Not this first image from the set though, which features LaBeouf grinning alongside some youngsters in their best period-appropriate wardrobe.

TRAILER: Mark Ruffalo’s All-Healing Sympathy for Delicious

Sympathy for Delicious wasn’t exactly the toast of Sundance 2010, but with a cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis, Noah Emmerich, John Carroll Lynch, screenwriter Christopher Thornton, and first-time director Mark Ruffalo, it earns a second look in its new trailer. We can quibble about the use of Rolling Stones lyrics to illustrate the movie’s theme of healing, but at least “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” stays out of the fray.

Weekend Receipts: Limitless Muscles Out The Competition For Number One

It was a three-way opening battle for the box office this weekend, but in the end it was the Bradley Cooper’s clever d-bag that overpowered the sincere attorney and the sassy alien as Limitless took the top spot. Said attorney and alien took fourth and fifth place respectively, as hold-overs Rango and Battle: Los Angeles took second and third place. Your weekend receipts are here.

Forget It, Jake; It’s Chinatown: Watch A Rapid-Fire Montage Of Movie Titles Said In Movies

One of my favorite running jokes in Mystery Science Theater 3000 is when one of the characters would say the name of the crappy movie they’re in and the bots would wildly exclaim, “And we’ve got a title!” Well, some enterprising soul has gone one better and cobbled together 81 movies that say their 81 titles in just two minutes. But color me shocked that the above-mentioned “Forget it, Jake; it’s Chinatown.” didn’t make the cut. C’mon, man! Space Chimps gets the nod but Jake Gittes gets left out in the cold? Are there any of your favorites that didn’t make the montage? [ HaveYouSeenThis? via Vulture ]

DVD: Gamera is Bradley Cooper is Jayne Mansfield — In Praise of the Also-Ran

Shout! Factory finished off its series of DVD debuts for original Japanese Gamera movies this week with the release of Gamera vs. Zigra and Gamera: The Super Monster , and it’s a long-overdue recognition of these entertaining Japanese giant monster (or kaiju) flicks. You’ve gotta feel for the fire-breathing, flying giant turtle — no matter what he accomplished on the big screen, he spent his entire career in the shadow of the more popular Godzilla. Ahead, four other Hollywood also-rans who quietly toil in the shadows.

In Honor of Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday,’ 5 Dubious Sensations Who Deserve Biopics

No, “Kicking in the front seat / sitting in the back seat” is not a Gwendolyn Brooks couplet about Rosa Parks; it’s a key line in YouTube sensation Rebecca Black’s video ” Friday ,” which is being “hailed” as the worst song ever. Honestly? It’s not that bad. A little doltish and Auto-Tuned, but nothing that another wretched spin of “Boom Boom Pow” couldn’t make you forget. Rebecca Black’s meteoric rise (about 20 million views, so far) makes us reflect upon other questionable phenomena in pop history, the kinds whose stories still haven’t been told on the big screen. Here are five we’d like to revisit.

Some Canadian Has a Better Charlie Sheen/Tiger Blood Tattoo Than You

My only quibble with Canadian tattoo artist Andrew Ottenhof’s tattoo of Charlie Sheen wearing a tiger head : Charlie looks a little more like his brother Emilio. Or Emilio’s friend Ally Sheedy. Or Jean-Claude Van Damme. In a bad mood. In the ’80s. Otherwise? Tragnifique!
