Is Viggo Mortensen The Big Bad For The New Superman Movie?

We’ve already heard rumors that Kevin Costner might be joining the cast of the new Superman as Pa Kent, but now The Hollywood Reporter says that Viggo Mortensen is being eyed as a potential villain for the movie. Will he be Zod? Braniac? And where does this fit in with all the billions of other casting rumors ? And how sad will we all be once Batman and Superman finalize all their casting? So many questions. Bold Predictions, Imaginary Guns: Paul Feig Calls the Oscars For Movieline

Ed. note: All this week, Movieline has solicited Oscar predictions from numerous film and TV personalities in the lead-up to Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. Clash of the Titans Sequel Will Be Converted to 3-D

Release the crappy? In an interview with Cinematical , director Jonathan Liebesman said that his Clash of the Titans sequel (titled Wrath of the Titans ) would be given the post-conversion 3-D treatment, much like the derided first film. The difference? “I think what you have to remember is the first film was neither shot nor edited with 3D in mind,” said Liebesman. “[T]hey decided to convert it with six or seven weeks to go until release, which is insane; the technology was not there. That’s why we’re conceiving it from the start, from the ground up, in 3D, editing in 3D for 3D.” Sounds like a plan. My designer 3-D glasses are already on order. [ Cinematical ]

Return of the ‘Pack: The Teaser Trailer for The Hangover Part II Debuts with Help from Jay-Z

When the trailer for Bruno debuted in 2009 , Universal tried to sell audiences on the critical love for Sacha Baron Cohen’s previous summer comedy, Borat . It didn’t work. Cut to 2011, and here comes Warner Bros. using a similar strategy in the first teaser for The Hangover Part II (it looks like those Roman numerals are part of the official title), which uses quotes about the first film to fill up much of the trailer’s length. Is this highly anticipated sequel doomed to face a Bruno -like box office fate?

Potiche Trailer: Why Yes, Catherine Deneuve Can Run a Factory

After Swimming Pool became something of a surprise art house hit, the United States more or less went back to ignoring French filmmaker François Ozon, despite the fact he seemed to nearly double his output in the succeeding years. That seemed fair enough, since his output can indeed be pretty inconsistent. But after watching the trailer for Potiche , I’d like to point out that the guy at least deserves credit for audacity. After gaining international recognition for erotic thrillers, he went ahead and made a fairy tale about a flying baby ( Ricky ), and now, what appears to be a French version of Working Girl with Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu.

Miguel Arteta on Cedar Rapids and the Bullying of Michael Cera

If there’s one thing to be said for Cedar Rapids director Miguel Arteta, it’s that he defends his actors. If you come after one of the stars of his films — say, Michael Cera in last year’s criminally underrated Youth in Revolt — you’re going to hear about it, which Movieline did during this interview. The Puerto Rican-born Arteta is also apt to defend is his own bona fides: While he readily admits that he’s not the first person you would think of to direct Cedar Rapids — a film about a fish-out-of-water Midwesterner — he knows what it’s like to be a new person in a strange land.

VIDEO: Glimpse 19 Seconds of James Franco and Anne Hathaway’s Grease Oscar Routine

So I’m in the middle of this project about James Franco and Twitter, a tech-culture marriage proving increasingly curious by the hour. And the next thing I know, there’s the man himself, dancing with his Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway in what one can only presume is a tribute to Grease set to be performed at the Academy Awards.

Details of Black List Script About Rupert Murdoch Finally Revealed

Did you ever imagine what it would be like to hear Rupert Murdoch scream at Steve Jobs on the telephone? If Murdoch gets made, you’ll get your chance! Forbes got a hold of Jesse Armstrong’s Black Listed script about the News Corp mogul, and in addition to that scene — plus one of Murdoch dyeing his own hair in the bathroom sink — there is plenty of Shakespearean drama for some intrepid filmmaker to sink his or her teeth into. Of course, no one is actually planning to produce Murdoch , presumably because they don’t want to feel the wrath of its subject. Perhaps the Steve Jobs scene is a little too convincing?
