Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6 Recap: Benjen’s Back, Back Again

Most shows save big events like the deaths of beloved characters for season finales, but not Game of Thrones . D.B. Weiss and David Benioff went and killed off Hodor  in a midseason shocker last week, leaving many to wonder if the show would be able to continue upping the ante with “Blood of My Blood.” One thing most fans hoped the show wouldn’t do going into this year is get too deep in the weeds with the mystical mumbo-jumbo, but thus far Bran and Arya’s storylines have been two of this season’s most compelling. Not only have they made for pulse-pounding drama (see: “Hold the door!”) but they’ve helped to demonstrate how some of the more arcane aspects of the show’s elaborate mythology tie into the current fight over the Iron Throne. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in Bran’s flashback that takes place while he and Meera are fleeing some seriously aggressive White Walkers. View Slideshow: Hodor Shocker: The Internet’s Best Reactions to Game of Thrones’ “Hold the Door!” Scene His visions cover everything from his own near-fatal fall at the hands of Jaime Lannister to the lunatic rantings of “the Mad King” Aerys II Targaryen. Bran’s haphazard warging is interrupted by a real-life blast from the past, as a man who looks a lot like Benjen Stark swoops in to save the day (and confirm a popular fan theory ). From there, it’s back to the ’90s sitcom that is Sam and Gilly’s mismatched love affair. At first it looks like his return home will go smoothly, but you had to know that wasn’t gonna last… With the Internet’s gnashing of teeth and rending of garments over the death of Willas (aka Hodor), it’s easy to forget that last week’s episode promised a major conflict at Margaery’s scheduled walk of shame. It seems at first that Tommen’s queen has actually been taken in by the High Sparrow’s sanctimonious BS, but based on her reaction to her brother Loras’ lowly state, we’re guessing she’s got something up her sleeve. The gods may have a plan for us all, but something tells us Margaery has several plans for the High Sparrow. Predictably, the Tarley family reunion goes awry when Sam’s father does his douchey thing, and Gilly accidentally spills the beans about being a Wildling. Is it just us or did the convo about whether or not White Walkers exist remind anyone else of a Thanksgiving argument about global warming? Anyway, the good news is that Sam’s mom is every bit as cool as he always claimed. The bad news is that his dad is every bit as dickish as we were led to believe, and he promptyl gives his son the boot while allowing Gilly and Sam’s child to stay. View Slideshow: Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6 Photos: Life in a Post-Hodor World Just as it looked like Sam would be cowed by his dad once again, he returns for Gilly and peaces out with the family sword, thus providing one of this season’s most satisfying “f–k yeah!” moments. Hell, we enjoyed Sam’s revenge almost as much as Arya enjoyed watching the re-enactment of Joffrey’s death. Almost. As the show goes on (complete with a poop-joke heavy cameo for the always-fantastic Richard E. Grant) it looks like Arya finally is finally going to carry out one of her ordered assassinations. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you’re that rum-loving actress), it seems The Girl just doesn’t have what it takes to be a hit woman for a freaky cult. It’s always tough to give up on a dream (even when that dream is taking lives for the Many-Faced God), but we’re glad to see the return of the old Arya (and Needle!) After Arya turns tail, it’s finally time for the showdown at King’s Landing. Or at least it would’ve been, were it not for the fact that Tommen is thoroughly under the spell of Margaery’s vagina, and in this case it’s told him that Bernie Sparrow is leading a political revolution. (Just joshin’, Senator Sanders!) (Side bar: The show is primarily about the battle for the Iron Throne, and we’re guessing the average casual viewer couldn’t tell you the name of the current king. Just a thought.) From there, it’s the return of Walder Frey, a character who was missed by exactly no one. As if one unpleasant reminder of the Red Wedding wasn’t enough Walder trots out the Catelyn Stark’s brother, Edmure Tully, who is apparently being held captive at the Twins. What does it mean that Walder is using him as a tool to regain Riverrun? It’s not totally clear, but we’re sure it’s not good news for Edmure or the Blackfish. This season has done an incredible job of intertwining seemingly unrelated storylines, and that’s never more apparent than when we learn that the banished Jaime Lannister is being “sent to deal with the Blackfish” on Walder’s behalf. Jaime is understandably pissed that the High Sparrow has won over his son, but we’re having trouble being sympathetic. Maybe it’s because this episode featured a flashback to that unfortunate little incident in which he crippled Bran for life. Speaking of Bran, he and Meera are back on the road, this time with the mysterious stranger who, to the surprise of absolutely no one, turns out to be Benjen Stark. It seems the writers are going for the “most storylines in a single episode” record this time out by briefly checking in with Daenerys and her ever-expanding khalassar. Naturally, she swoops in on her newly-recovered dragon and gives a stirring speech in Dothraki, because this is the Season of the Badass Final Scene. Despite the many ways in which this episode moved the plot forward “Blood of My Blood” might be the most uneventful installment of Season Six thus far. And that’s okay. We’ve been needing a chance to catch out breath, and place-setting episodes of GoT are usually followed by something seriously epic. At the very least, hopefully we’ll get some freakin’ Tyrion next week! Watch Game of Thrones onlin e to remind yourself of who the hell the Blackfish is. Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6 Photos: Life in a Post-Hodor World

Sorry if you're upset about that spoiler from last week's Game of Thrones in the headline, but c'mon – it's been a freakin' week! Even if you didn't catch the episode, you've probably heard about the death of Hodor by now.  And if you haven't, well – time to join us in mourning! After last week's shocking conclusion, we're eager to move on to some slightly less depressing action, and judging from the photos below, this episode may be just what we're looking for. We didn't think we could hate anyone who makes life hell for the Lannisters, but the High Sparrow's self-righteous douche-baggery got old real fast. Looks like the old bird and his crew of flunkies will finally get their comeuppance this week. We can't wait! Check out the production stills below for a preview of what's in store, and watch Game of Thrones online to get caught up in time for Sunday's episode. #HodorMorghulis   1. Daenerys Rides Again The Khaleesi is back on top! But not in the way that Daario has in mind. 2. Margaery Tyrell’s Walk of Shame Hopefully the Lannister’s plan works out. We can’t stomach another walk of shame. 3. Septa Unella and Her Bell Yes, it’s that damn shame bell again. We’re having flashbacks just looking at it. 4. Lancel Lannister Remember Brother Lancel, aka Lancel Lannister. If not, here’s your refresher: he sucks! 5. High Sparrow Looks Pissed The High Sparrow seems even more outraged than usual. Maybe he’s angry that Donald Trump won’t debate him for charity. Just kidding, Bernie! 6. Happy Arya Arya is pleased. We think we have a good idea why that smile is on her face… View Slideshow

Miley Cyrus to Coach Contestants on The Voice

Wag your tongues, take off your clothing and light one up, viewers of The Voice. Miley Cyrus has given you a reason to celebrate. With the artist already headed to The Voice this Monday for the start of the Knockout Rounds and to begin her stint as Key Adviser , Miley has confirmed that she’ll have an even more permanent role on the series next season. Look out, red chairs. The star’s rear end is coming your way! “It’s true! I am going to be the newest judge on Season 11 of The Voice @NBCTheVoice #thevoice,” Cyrus wrote as a caption to the above image. It’s only a guess, but we think this means Gwen Stefani will not return for Season 11 because there’s typically just one female coach per season. We wonder how Blake Shelton feels about that. We also wonder just what sort of reception the controversial Cyrus will receive. How will she fit in with Shelton and Adam Levine? Alicia Keys, meanwhile, was also announced as a coach for Season 11, which is scheduled to begin filming in September. She’s crazy talented, but she isn’t semi-crazy in general like Cyrus is, so this announcement has received far less fanfare. What do you think of Miley Cyrus joining The Voice in a coaching capacity? Will she make you more or less likely to tune in? View Slideshow: Miley Cyrus’ Weirdest Instagram Photos

Nate Diaz to Justin Bieber: Shut Your B-tch Ass Up!

Nate Diaz vs. Justin Bieber is not a feud we ever would have expected (and one we’re guessing Justin doesn’t want) but it looks like it’s going down, nonetheless. As you may have heard, Diaz scored a major upset victory against welterweight opponent and fan favorite Conor McGregor during Saturday night’s UFC 196. One McGregor fan who took the loss particularly hard was fellow tattooed egomaniac Justin Bieber. Bieber took to social media during the fight to declare his continued love for McGregor and take an ill-advised shot at Diaz, a man who has the ability to inflict unspeakable amounts of pain on Justin. First, Bieber posted a photo of McGregor, along with a caption reading, “Still the champ.” He followed that up with another post that may wind up doubling as a suicide note: “No bandwagon but Conor is a true champion, fights with style and finesse, all the respect to Nate but his style is terrible. Nate has crazy heart respect.” Never one to back down from a fight (especially against Justin freakin’ Bieber), Diaz responded with this hilarity: Amazingly, this isn’t even the first time that the Biebs has picked a fight with a UFC champ. Bieber’s feud with Ronda Rousey has been going on for months, and the singer has shown no indication that he plans to apologize for the rudeness that set the whole thing off. We guess it’s a good thing Justin is friends with Floyd Mayweather .  We’re not exactly his biggest fans, but “Bieber Says ‘ Sorry ‘ Too Late, Gets Pummeled to Death By Own Heavily Inked Severed Arms” is not a headline we look forward to writing. Kim Kardashian: Kanye West Did NOT Hijack My Twitter Account

She can get whacky on the interweb, too. Yesterday, Kardashian uncharacteristically lashed out at a few celebrities who made fun of her nude selfie, which was proudly posted yesterday morning. The tweets were borderline obnoxious and read like a rant from her husband, Kanye West. No sir, claimed Kardashian, who took full responsibility for her slightly unhinged responses to Bette Midler, Chloe Grace Moretz and Piers Morgan. “Wait I can’t believe people thought Kanye or Khloe hacked my Twitter,” Kardashian tweeted earlier today. “I swear I’m funny too!!!” Kardashian’s responses to all three celebrities were reminiscent of West, who has gone on the defensive via Twitter to call out anyone who has so much as asks what time it is. Midler was not amused by Kardashian’s “funny” response to her joke, and tweeted back to the mom-of-two, “I never tried to fake friend you. Looks like anyone can take a selfie but not everyone can take a joke…” BUT SHE’S FUNNY TOO! Morgan didn’t stand a chance either. And poor Moretz was just a young girl retweeting Midler’s joke because, again, it was funny (and true). After tearing those three apart, Kardashian posted another nudie of herself with the declaration, “#liberated.” If this is a show of solidarity to West, then I implore someone – anyone – to take away their social media rights, at least until after Kris Jenner has given them a time-out . Game of Thrones Season 6 Trailer: How the Mighty Have Fallen!

We received a brief teaser glimpse of Game of Thrones Season 6 back in December but now the first full trailer is here to whet your appetite for the April 24 premiere, and it's got us hungrier than Ramsay Bolton in front of a plateful of of pork sausage. We are so, so sorry for that analogy. Anyway, the clip opens on the image of Jon Snow…lying dead in the snow. Maybe Kit Harington wasn't lying when he said he's definitely done with the show. (Just kidding, he's totally full of it.) From there we see Daenerys reduced to the level of a commoner amongst a tribe of wandering Dothraki after being captured at the end of last season. The High Sparrow, sounding very much like the Bernie Sanders of Westeros, tells someone off-screen, :Everyone of us is poor, impoverished, yet we have the power to overthrow an empire.” Tyrion ominously warns of the dangers of playing “the great game,” and a vengeful Cersei declares, “I choose violence,” which after the way she was kicked around last season, should surprise absolutely no one. The whole thing plays out over a stripped-down cover of Chris Isaak's “Wicked Games,” yet somehow isn't incredibly corny corny. Watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic to remind yourself of everything that's gone down in the Seven Kingdoms to bring us to this moment.

Jinger Duggar Talks Courtship, Anna Duggar Opens Up About Josh Scandal in New Counting On Trailer

After the cancelation of 19 Kids and Counting last summer , some thought (and many hoped) that the Duggars would never return to television. Now, the biggest brood in reality TV is coming back to TLC with a full season of Jill & Jessa: Counting On,  which the network test-ran as a limited run spinoff in December. The first Counting On teaser didn't offer much in the way of new information. The full trailer released today, however, gives us a good idea of what to expect from the Duggar gang. There are some light scenes such as when Jana and Jinger are asked about courting . (They dodge the question like seasoned pros.) Or when things get dangerous after the Duggars decide to “go big” while constructing a tree house for the compound. But, of course, there are darker moments, as well, such as when Anna Duggar opens about the highly-publicized infidelity of her husband, Josh: “I don’t know what I’m stepping into,” she tells the camera. “I don’t know how to handle each situation…It’s not anything I ever would have thought I would walk through.” Like we said, things get heavy. Fortunately, Ben Seewald is there to provide unintentional comic relief by attempting to rap and change a diaper.

Lady Gaga Confirms Return to American Horror Story

The year of Lady Gaga will officially conclude with the superstar scaring the living ish out of television viewers once again.  On Thursday, American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy Tweeted that “Lady Gaga is so brilliant in AHS Season 5 that [he] officially asked her to join Season 6.” Murphy then beseeched Gaga to say “yes,” which is the exact word she used when asked this morning during a Z100 radio interview if she would appear on the FX smash hit again this fall. She did add as a qualification, however: “I can’t promise you how or when, or anything like that.” Lady Gaga, who brought the Academy Awards crowd to its feet last week, starred on American Horror Story Season 5 as The Countess. She won her first-ever Golden Globe for the role, as you can see here: Lady Gaga Wins First-Ever Golden Globe! Not many details regarding American Horror Story Season 6 have been released, although FX President John Landgraf told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January FX that the new chapter would be “set in the present” with “echoes of the past” mixed in. He added: “It’s set in two time periods, but principally in the present.” We’re sure roles and characters are still being hashed out, but it would be very hard for us to believe that Lady Gaga isn’t once again one of the leads. In the meantime, you can watch American Horror Story online to catch up on her performance from last year… … and you can also watch Gaga absolutely slay the Super Bowl national anthem last month, along with a David Bowie tribute at the Grammys: Lady Gaga National Anthem at Super Bowl 50 Lady Gaga Pays Tribute to David Bowie at 2016 Grammy Awards
