There have been a lot of jokes about what a horrendous year 2016 has been (Don’t talk about it in the past tense yet, or it’ll grandmother and your favorite singer in one fiery head-on collision.), but we think much of the criticism has been unfair. After all, we already have reason to believe that 2017 will be much, much worse. We may not know exactly what unique horrors lie in store for us in the coming 12 months, but we do know we won’t make it three weeks before Putin’s puppet pops a figurative squat on the Capitol steps and wipes with the Constitution. Yes, whether you like it or not (statistically, you probably don’t) Donald Trump’s inauguration will take place on January 20. Usually, entertainers consider performing on Inauguration Day to be a incredible honor, but Team Trump has had difficulty securing any talent at all, much less the yuuuuge names that Trump would like to see on stage. Thus far, only three acts have been confirmed for the Donald’s Inauguration Day: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, which is surprising, considering how much Trump struggled against independent candidate Evan McMullin in Utah. Jackie Evancho, which is also surprising, considering that by finishing in second place on her season of America’s Got Talent, Evancho joins the rest of the world on Trump’s list of losers. And the Radio City Rockettes, who are the most surprising selection of all, as they’re basically being coerced into getting on stage to sport massive grins and get their kick-line on. A Rockette named Phoebe Price took to Instagram to express her displeasure with being forced to perform at the inauguration, and her plea for understanding has gone viral today: “I usually don’t use social media to make a political stand but I feel overwhelmed with emotion,” Price writes. “Finding out that it has been decided for us that Rockettes will be performing at the Presidential inauguration makes me feel embarrassed and disappointed.” “The women I work with are intelligent and are full of love and the decision of performing for a man that stands for everything we’re against is appalling,” “I am speaking for just myself but please know that after we found out this news, we have been performing with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts #notmypresident” An email that was sent from the Rockettes union to the performers went public today, and many have expressed shock over the group basically being informed that they have no choice but to take the stage: “Everyone is entitled to her own political beliefs, but there is no room for this in the workplace,” the email reads. “If you are not full time, you do not have to sign up to do this work. If you are full time, you are obligated.” The women are further informed that any “boycott” of the event will be considered “invalid.” Trump, meanwhile, has been tweeting about how many celebrities are clamoring to be invited to the event – without naming any names, of course: “The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tixs to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING,” Trump tweeted. “I want the PEOPLE!” the President-elect tweeted this morning. Chrissy Teigen and many other celebs have already taken to social media to inform the rest of the world that Trump is completely full of it , but you knew that already. Forget being fast and/or furious. Vin Diesel has made headlines for acting inappropriate and awkward while being interviewed by YouTube star Carol Moreira. In the following video, the action star is talking to Moreira about how Tom Hanks helped him become a star (true fact: they worked on Saving Private Ryan)… until he can no longer help himself. He simply has to speak out. So Diesel goes ahead and interrupts himself to tell Moreira the following: “God, you're so beautiful. God, she's so beautiful.” This may be true. But it's also disrespectful and irrelevant to the interview taking place. Diesel wasn't done, either. He actually turned to people behind the camera and asked: “Am I right or wrong? I mean look at her. How am I supposed to do this interview? Look at this woman. She's so beautiful. Talk to me, baby.” Oh God, Vin. Clearly unsure what to do or how to react, Moreira was able to get the interview back on topic… … until a few minutes later when Diesel returned to hitting on the journalist after she brought up the pair's shared interest in Dungeons and Dragons. “I'm anything like you because I love you,” he said. “Guys, really? Look how beautiful she is. You guys think this is a joke. How am I supposed to sit here when I'm looking at such beauty? She's so beautiful. I'm in love. I'm in love with the interviewer!” Watch the video below – which begins with Moreira explaining how Diesel made her feel very “uncomfortable” – to also see the chauvinist actor practically drool over how “f-cking sexy” Moreira is. Last night, the world learned that beloved sitcom star Alan Thicke passed away after suffering a massive heart attack while playing hockey with his son. Thicke has been mourned by millions on social media, including many celebrities who knew the actor personally. Of course, despite his many roles over the years, Thicke remains best known as Jason Seaver on the long-running ABC series Growing Pains – a show that also launched the career of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t an original member of the Growing Pains cast, but he’s often said that when he signed on in the show’s final season, at the age of 16, he was welcomed like family. Today, the Oscar-winner posted a moving tribute to Thicke on his Facebook page: “Alan was a devoted father, husband, friend and role model. He knew how to harness the power of the entertainment industry to be a positive influence in so many lives – including mine. “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I had to work with Alan early in my career. He had tremendous class, a huge heart, and he taught me and so many others the valuable lessons about humility and gratitude. “I’ve seen him a number of times over the years and when Alan Thicke walked in the room, quite frankly, no one was cooler. I miss him already – my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Thicke family during this difficult time.” Actor Kirk Cameron, who starred on the show as Thicke’s son, Mike Seaver, also shared come kind words about one of his first co-stars on social media: “I spent Monday through Friday for seven important years with Alan Thicke as my ‘TV dad.’ I’m shocked and truly heartbroken today at the news of his death,” Cameron wrote on Instagram. “Alan was a generous, kind and loving man. I am so blessed to have grown up with him. Chelsea and I send our love and prayers to his family tonight. We will cherish the memories…’sharing the laughter and love.'” Thicke is survived by three children, including his eldest son, pop singer Robin Thicke. With the Syrian army closing in this week on rebel-held areas in Aleppo, thousands of civilians in this war-torn city have been trapped in small pockets of opposition territory. By some estimates, 50,000 residents are essentially waiting to either be killed or taken hostage, sitting helplessly in a one-square mile radius of town. A UN spokesman has referred to the horrific situation as a “complete meltdown of humanity.” Earlier this month, a seven-year old girl named Bana Alabed made global headlines when she posted multiple messages on social media that implied she and her mother were about to be captured. Alabed and her mom, Fatemah – who have been tweeting the horrors from East Aleppo since September – appear to have avoided said capture… … but they now fear as if their days on Earth are numbered. Tweeted Fatemah on Monday: She has since written the following, posted about seven hours ago: “Dear world, there’s intense bombing right now. Why are you silent? Why? Why? Why? Fear is killing me & my kids.” Here is a photo of Bana Alabed: Fatemah is far from the only Aleppo resident recording this mass slaughter in real time. As events continue to unfold in the area and the death toll continues to mount, those trapped in the city are screaming at the world over social media, saying goodbye forever; wondering why no one is helping them; or both. “This may be my last video. More than 50,000 civilians who rebelled against the dictator [Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad are threatened with field executions or are dying under bombing,” Lina Shamy, an activist in eastern Aleppo, said in a video shared on Twitter. Calls for a ceasefire by the United Nations have been ignored by Syria and Russia, who is aiding the government with an intensive air campaign. Officials from these nations have vowed to continue the offensive until the rebels surrender or die. Elsewhere, a teacher and father (who tweets under the handle @Mr.Alhamdo) wrote on Tuesday afternoon of his simple desire to see his young daughter taste a banana for the first time. He now doubts this will ever happen. “I just wanted to make my daughter taste the banana,” he Tweeted. “She likes such food. She hasn’t tasted it yet. I might not be able to do that.” There are no words to express how we feel about the situation in Aleppo. It’s heartbreaking. It’s surreal. It’s the very worst of humanity. We can only offer our thoughts and prayers to all involved.
