It’s no shock that there are lot of thumb thugs that like to use their 140 characters to spread hate speech. Humboldt University Students And Professors Map Most Racist Twitter States Via GuardianUK Here on the data team, we tend to be skeptical about the accuracy of semantic analysis. But the students and professors at Humboldt State University who produced this map read the entirety of the 150,000 geo-coded tweets they analysed. Using humans rather than machines means that this research was able to avoid the basic pitfall of most semantic analysis where a tweet stating ‘the word homo is unacceptable’ would still be classed as hate speech. The data has also been ‘normalised’, meaning that the scale accounts for the total twitter traffic in each county so that the final result is something that shows the frequency of hateful words on Twitter. The only question that remains is whether the views of US Twitter users can be a reliable indication of the views of US citizens. Looks like all the racist and homophobic tweeters are on the midwest, south, and east coast. The 17-year-old entered the TVnext Hack event in Boston and not only won her category, “Best Use of Sync-To-Broadcast,” but also won Best In Show. Her creation? Twivo, a TV spoiler blocker made for Twitter. An extension of Google Chrome, Twivo lets users type in key words they would like to block and for how long. Take the example of Game of Thrones spoilers . If you missed the episode but have it on DVR and still want to be on Twitter, enter keyword “Game of Thrones” and you won’t see any tweets about it! So for The Bachelorette spoilers , you’d have to start like two months before the premiere, since Reality Steve starts posting them then. Just FYI. The program is still in demo phase and won’t be ready to roll out for a few weeks, but it’s totally a thing – good enough to win a hack-a-thon no less! Kanye West has seemingly revealed the release date for his next album. Or maybe the due date for Kim Kardashian . Or possibly even his wedding date. That date does fall on a Tuesday, the traditional release day for new albums. It’s also rather unlikely that Kim would walk down the aisle when she’s nearly nine months pregnant. After passing along the rumor – which no reliable site, THG included, even bothered running – out of true concern for Bynes, Amanda let her have it: “I need help?” she Tweeted at Jenny. What are u talking about? Aren’t u 50 years old? I’m 27, u look 80 compared to me! Why are you talking about me?” “You’re ugly! Police weren’t at my house old lady! Shut the f–k up!” We know Amanda Bynes only has hot friends , and has a thing against “ugly” people, but has she seen Jenny McCarthy? Hottest would-be friend ever! It’s unclear why “ugly” has become Mandy’s default word when lashing out at “haters,” but Jenny, to her credit, responded to Amanda with a simple apology: “@AmandaBynes sorry girl.
