How Did ‘Comopolis’ Top ‘Twilight’ In Our Movie Brawl?

This week’s ‘Twilight’ Tuesday takes a closer look at why fans chose Robert Pattinson’s indie over ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2.’ By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon in “Cosmopolis” Photo: Alfama Films Over the course of the “Twilight Saga” movies, we at MTV News have come a long way in understanding the franchise’s very passionate fanbase. So when we launched the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 , I thought there was a very good chance “Twilight” fans would vote “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” through to the championship round and into the championship slot, no problem. I was wrong. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” was ousted early, in the second round, by eventual champ “Cosmopolis.” Yes, the two films share a very popular star in Robert Pattinson, but compared with the millions upon millions of “Twilight” fans who have read all of Stephenie Meyer’s books, we’re guessing not as many are familiar with “Cosmopolis” through its source material by Don DeLillo. So here’s what I think: All of you wonderfully dedicated Pattinson fans are in it for the long haul. You’re choosing to grow and evolve right along with Pattinson and the ebbs and flows of his chosen profession. That sentiment is exemplified perfectly by this poignant comment by MTV community member and Pattinson fan, Lior : “VOTE COSMOPOLIS! Support Rob’s new, professional career! SEE HIS TALENT BEYOND TWILIGHT.” Not that the excitement for the final chapter in “The Twilight Saga” has lessened in any way, of course, but because there’s more mystery surrounding “Cosmopolis,” it is the more intriguing of the two films. And let’s not forget about Pattinson’s other upcoming film, “Bel Ami,” which only narrowly lost to “Cosmopolis” in that first round. I would have thought the interest in seeing RPattz’s bare behind on the big screen would have easily trumped the film about a fully clothed young finance wiz taking a day-long limo ride though New York City. Consider me very pleasantly surprised. What do you think, “Twilight” fans? Why did “Cosmopolis” triumph over “Breaking Dawn – Part 2”? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner! Robert Pattinson Or Kristen Stewart: Who Will Rule 2012?

‘Twilight’ Tuesday takes a look at the big years ahead for the duo — aside from ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2.’ By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit What better way to kick off the new year than with a detailed analysis of what 2012 has in store for our favorite “Twilight” lovebirds, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart? In addition to the highly anticipated franchise finale, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” Pattinson and Stewart both have other projects on the horizon. For this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday, we examine the superstars’ next must-see movies. On Pattinson’s slate, there are two films of note: the saucy period piece “Bel Ami” and the David Cronenberg-directed drama “Cosmopolis.” Neither film has an official release date yet, but because “Bel Ami” opens in the U.K. on March 2, we hope that means a U.S. release will soon follow. Pattinson and co-star Uma Thurman have not underplayed the fact that there is a lot of sex in the movie, which is evident in the trailer , and there’s also plenty of Pattinson’s “crack” — his words, not ours. For the one or two Pattinson fans not interested in seeing their favorite actor’s bare bum in “Ami,” perhaps “Cosmopolis” will suit your needs. The story is based on Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name and revolves around young multimillionaire Eric Packer (Pattinson) through a single day as he attempts to cross Manhattan in order to get his hair cut. According to Cronenberg, it’s a role that really showcases Pattinson’s acting chops. “Really, he’s fantastic. He’s sensational,” Cronenberg told MTV News . “Really, I’m telling you. He’s a great actor. It’s obvious in the movie. It’s not like maybe yes, maybe no. It’s obvious.” Switching gears toward Stewart’s 2012 film forecast, the 21-year-old has a very busy year ahead of her, with the release of “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “On the Road.” Fans first get to see Stewart’s sword-wielding skills as Snow White in Rupert Sanders’ new telling of the classic fairy tale. “Snow White and the Huntsman” — or “SWATH,” as it’s been commonly referred to on the Internet — opens June 1 and shows us a side of Stewart we haven’t yet seen. Stewart has been gushing about the project since filming began and might even be hoping for sequels. “I’ve got stars in my eyes. I’m literally over the moon about what I’m doing right now,” she told MTV News of her work on “Huntsman.” After that, we’ll have a look at the long-awaited “On the Road,” which doesn’t officially have a release date but has been rumored to debut at some point during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The film — based on Jack Kerouac’s beloved semiautobiographical treatise on the Beat Generation and his road trips with a collection of colorful characters — features an eclectic cast, including Garrett Hedlund, Tom Sturridge, Kirsten Dunst, Sam Riley, Amy Adams, Viggo Mortenson and Steve Buscemi. Who has the edge here? We have lots of naked Pattinson vs. a sword-wielding Stewart — it’s very tough to call. Not to mention the fact that they’ll be back onscreen together in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” on November 16. Perhaps the 2012 winners will be fans of the “Twilight” twosome! ‘Breaking Dawn’ Reveals Make Best ‘Twilight’ Year Yet

‘Twilight Tuesday’ rounds up video of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner talking the wedding, honeymoon and being shirtless. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment We knew 2011 was going to be a big year in the world of “Twilight” news. The fanbase seemed to keep growing by the hour, as did the excitement surrounding the release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1.” The release of a new “Twilight” film also meant that we’d be seeing a lot of the blockbuster franchise’s superstars as they promoted the film — and, boy, was MTV News lucky with how much time we ended up spending with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang this year. As such, this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” is dedicated to the best and brightest of those interviews with our favorite stars. Our first encounter with a “Twilight” star was our chat with Pattinson at the Golden Globes, during which he provided us with a giggly reaction to the first “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” still of Bella and Edward in bed , as well as his positive reviews of Stewart playing a vampire . “It’s like she wanted to do it the entire time,” he told us. “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not. I think she’s going to do it really well.” There were also plenty of teases about the film’s most highly anticipated scenes, including the wedding of Edward and Bella and the honeymoon sex scene. Of seeing Stewart in a wedding dress during the filming of their characters’ nuptials, Pattinson said, “She looked amazing. I really didn’t do much than just stand there.” Stewart later said of the experience: “It was very, very emotional for me.” Pattinson added, “You kind of realize what the groom’s position in a wedding is, which, in reality, is basically a prop. You stand there in a suit, and then everyone is looking at the girl.” One scene in which everyone was most certainly not just looking at the girl is the first sex scene between Edward and Bella on their wedding night. “I think we had some really interesting ideas about [the love scene],” Pattinson said when we caught up with him at the “Water for Elephants” press junket . “It’s kind of interesting, as well, having to do it in the context of PG-13. It makes it more interesting.” Speaking to all the hype about the big moment, Pattinson said that although there was a lot of pressure to deliver some major fireworks in the scene, he was confident he’d give a convincing performance. “That’s the one time I have felt like the coolest person,” Pattinson admitted with a laugh. “I was like, ‘This is easy!’ I can fulfill people’s sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking, piece of cake. That isn’t acting,” he joked. “The only thing [that was difficult] is the vanity aspect,” Pattinson continued. “Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I’m like, ‘Well, I’m throwing in the towel’ on ‘New Moon.’ ” Speaking of Lautner and his chiseled abs, the heartthrob told us that he had to actively campaign to director Bill Condon and the powers that be to limit his amount of shirtlessness in the film, much to the disappointment of his devoted fan following. “I got it down to one time, one time in the movie, and it literally lasts for two seconds,” Lautner said proudly of his single shirtless shot. “There was some negotiating for sure. There was more [shirtless scenes] when I read the original script, trust me,” he said. “And I got it down to a very, very small amount, which I was so happy with.” Other interview highlights included the unexpected, off-the-cuff, informal moments wherein our favorite stars played ball with a few of our more-outlandish requests and questions. Case in point: When we asked Jackson Rathbone to help read off a few of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards nominees in song, which he did in good spirits and with aplomb. Then there was the “Breaking Dawn” version of the always-entertaining “Yes/No Show” with Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner. And those are just a small collection of our favorites from 2011 alone. Only time will tell what 2012 will bring as we gear up for the “epic” conclusion to the franchise, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” It goes without saying that we can’t wait. George Takei Jokes About The Twilight Saga: It’s SO Bad!

Will George Takei live long enough to prosper after making the following comments public? In order to settle a feud between one Star Trek icon (William Shatner) and on Star Wars veteran (Carrie Fisher), this veteran actor has taken to the Internet and posted a message that he hopes will bring both sides together: let’s all hate on Twilight instead! “What’s needed today now more than ever is star peace, for there is an ominous, mutual threat to all science fiction. It’s called Twilight and it is really, really bad,” says Takei. George Takei: Down with Twilight! The actor even gets rather specific in calling our Robert Pattinson , Kristen Stewart and company, adding: “Gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie or epic battles. In its place, we have vampires that sparkle, moan and go to high school. Now, I’m not above mixing in a little sex appeal to spice up the fantasy, but sci-fi fans be warned, there are no great stories, characters or profound life lessons to be found in Twilight… In Twilight, the only message that rings through loud and clear is: ‘Does my boyfriend like me?’ “Let us band together to combat this mutual threat.” Powerful words. Now you tell us: Which movie franchise is best?

You know you smoke way too much f-cking weed!” Watch the video of the confession, obtained by The Daily, below: Miley Cyrus Weed Confession Kelly Osbourne, who was on stage with her pal, then grabbed the mic and – referring to THIS VIDEO from last year – joked with Cyrus: “I thought salvia was your problem!” Meanwhile, the night of her birthday, Miley made news for another video: she posted a tribute to those involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement. No word yet from Miley’s camp regarding the words about weed, but Osbourne has taken to her Twitter posted this less-than-convincing defense: “u guys if @MileyCyrus is not recording/filming/touring she is works everyday how could she possible do all that if she was a stoner! #think.”
