The ‘Twilight’ Stars’ History With The MTV Movie Awards

From Kristen Stewart dropping her award to her near-kiss with Robert Pattinson, ‘The Twilight Saga’ has provided the awards show with many memorable moments. In fact, anyone who’s watched the Movie Awards over the past three years knows the vampire saga and the awards ceremony go together almost as well as a clumsy teen named Bella and the century-old bloodsucker who loves her. Months before “Twilight” hit theaters back in November 2008, under-the-radar stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart — wearing matching Ray-Bans — and co-star Cam Gigandet attended the 2008 Movie Awards to introduce an exclusive clip from the Saga’s first film during the pre-show — the pre-show! But by the time the trio and co-star Taylor Lautner appeared at the Video Music Awards a few months later to introduce “Twilight” soundtrack band Paramore, they’d gained plenty of buzz. In fact, many Twilighters were outraged when host Russell Brand supposedly interrupted Pattinson during his speech. Hordes of Twilighters took to the Web to express their frustration and anger at the host. Fast-forward to 2009’s Movie Awards and Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner had become worldwide superstars thanks to the runaway box-office success of “Twilight” and the ensuing “Twilight” mania sweeping the nation. “Twilight” scored five Golden Popcorns that night, including Best Movie, Best Female Performance for Stewart, Breakthrough Performance Male for Pattinson, Best Kiss for Stewart and Pattinson and Best Fight for Pattinson and Gigandet. “Twilight” nearly swept every category it was nominated in save for Best Song From a Movie, which went to Miley Cyrus instead of Paramore’s “Decode.” The cast’s appearance at the 2009 show garnered many memorable moments. While accepting her Golden Popcorn for Best Female Performance, Stewart famously fumbled her award, with it eventually thudding to the floor of the Gibson Amphitheatre stage (which is probably why one of the first things she did during her 2010 win was place the statue safely on the ground before her speech). Later, when Stewart and Pattinson won the honor for Best Kiss, the two torturously teased the audience with the possibility of a lip-lock. Pattinson took the gum out of his mouth, the two closed their eyes and leaned in, but before the pucker could take place, Stewart turned away yelling, “Thank you so much!” Though fans likely felt slighted by the Pattinson/Stewart almost-kiss, they were aptly rewarded later in the ceremony when the duo and Lautner debuted the first “New Moon” trailer, which Pattinson called “a thank-you to the fans.” A few months later at the 2009 VMA Awards, the stars doubly thanked fans by introducing an extended version of the “New Moon” trailer. At this year’s ceremony, the vampire saga finally completed its long-awaited sweep — not to mention, Twilighters got what they truly wanted: a quick onstage kiss between Bella and Edward, er, Stewart and Pattinson. Ashton Kutcher Asks: ‘How Does Robert Pattinson Not Win Every Award?’

The ‘Killers’ star is just as dedicated as Twilighters to making sure RPattz dominates the MTV Movie Awards. By Eric Ditzian HOLLYWOOD — Last year, Robert Pattinson won three Golden Popcorn statutes at the MTV Movie Awards . At the 2010 show, he’s up for another three potential wins, including Best Male Performance and Best Kiss . Most avid Twilighters would say that’s pretty darn good work for the 24-year-old actor. Others might argue that such awards-show recognition just ain’t enough respect for the British heartthrob. By “others,” we mean Ashton Kutcher, who made a not entirely convincing (but nonetheless amazing) case to MTV News that Pattinson should never lose a single award — regardless of genre or gender specificity. Ever. “How does Robert Pattinson not win every award ever invented?” he asked us Tuesday night on the “Killers” red carpet, just days before Pattinson and his “Twilight” cohorts descend on the Movie Awards. “How does he not win every award ever?” Kutcher was only getting started. In an extended, dramatic-pause-assisted monologue, the King of Twitter made clear to what extent he’d be willing to go to defend the honor — and the awards-show dignity — of everyone’s favorite smoldering teen vampire. “Like, I almost got up onstage this year at the Grammys when he didn’t win and almost kicked Taylor Swift off,” he said. “Because I’m like, ‘What’s up? Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ “And the Emmys are coming up too,” he continued. “And I might go and just be like, ‘What’s up? Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ And then, at the Oscars, if ‘Precious’ is nominated for something next year again for some reason, I’ll just be like, ‘Robert Pattinson should have won this.’ “Or Ben Affleck,” he added with a deadpan grin. “One or another.” Are you as dedicated to RPattz’s awards-show dominance? ‘Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Dominates MTV Movie Awards Nominations

Film’s five nods were only topped by ‘The Hangover.’ By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Photo: Summit Entertainment Well, “Twilight” fans, you’ve done it again. Thanks to Twilighters’ undying love (and constant voting), “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has five nominations at this year’s MTV Movie Awards : Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), Best Kiss (Stewart and Pattinson) and Global Superstar (a new category this year for which Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner are all nominated). “New Moon” came in just behind “The Hangover,” which scored six nods. In the coveted Best Kiss category, Stewart and Pattinson will defend their title against some familiar and interesting competition. They’ll face Lautner, who is nominated for his kiss with Taylor Swift in “Valentine’s Day,” and Stewart will compete against herself for her kiss with Dakota Fanning in “The Runaways” (other kissing couples include Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds for “The Proposal” and Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, for “Avatar”). Fitting with the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob rivalry, Pattinson and Lautner will also go head-to-head in the Best Male Performance category (with Channing Tatum in “Dear John,” Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and Zac Efron in “17 Again” rounding out the rest of the nominees in that category). Only time will tell if box-office juggernaut “Avatar” or comedic king “The Hangover” have equally obsessive fanbases as the Twilighters. But if last year’s seven nominations and five wins are any indication, fans of the scream-inducing franchise will likely have several reasons to celebrate come June.
